Identify this grille
Casey replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's so generic looking, but definitely has that late '70s/early '80s cheap (because, no headlights which light up) R/C truck. -
Identify this grille
Casey replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not out of an American kit, IMO, unless it's from Lindberg. Japanese manufacturer, possibly a 1/32 ish scale caricature type car? Those huge, protruding bumper caps say "abuse me", so maybe a track-bound car if some type, STOMPER type truck or similar. Ruler for scale, please. Backside pic would help, too. Yellow plastic under the plating? -
Not exactly sure what this was supposed to be (I think the date is '68?), so quite possibly second gen Pontiac F-body (Firebird). Definitely has the classic Pontiac ironing board element on the hood and the '73-4 LeMans Sport/Grand Am nose, but not very pedestrian friendly (even assuming an Endura nose cap).

Before '72, maybe, but not once the new impact standards were implemented, and I believe this is from 1975. Elements of the above design were previously seen elsewhere-- twin hood blisters in the '71+ Firebird Formula (with scoops added), '63-'67 Corvette split bumpers, and the trademark Pontiac split grille. Could it have passed the 5-mph bumper regulations with an Enduro nose and those blade style bumpers? Doubtful, but it sure would've made a gorgeous personal luxury car. I'm sure GM would have scoffed at the extra $14.73 per hidden headlight unit, too, and said "NO" almost instantly. All found here, BTW: http://www.deansgarage.com/2015/allan-flowers-gm-designer/ I'm rather fond of this sloped-nose '71+ Chevy Impala(?), too: The below nose is a bit too peaked and mirror image-y, but those cornering lenses look a lot like those on the '71-2 Malibu/Chevelle: I don't dislike this:

Looks like a corrected (i.e., not arched at the leading edge) hood, too?

They included the '76-'77 stripes and grille (IIRC, there are three unique grilles among the various issues) this time, and by changing those two things the next time, they get another, distinct kit to sell, likely the '78-'79 version. Smart business, though it doesn't please everyone. For a kit with fewer than 70 parts, getting three distinct kits to market is a win for Round2. By the time the next version hits the retail level, 95% of the people who buy it will have no idea there were two previous versions released within the last five years.

I thought it might've been discontinued semi-recently to be honest, so I did want to check on it's production status, as it were. A number of these kits are available online for $25, but stock is not exactly plentiful. Seems to me like one of those kits that once it's discontinued, you'll kick yourself for not buying one or more while they were easily sourced.

It's a current item in the Revell catalog: https://www.revell.com/products/trucks/66-chevy-suburban.html

Seat belts in model kits
Casey replied to pharoah's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed. Better to err toward too fine than too coarse. If the seatbelts look like a braided leather belt, the weave is too coarse. -

Not the same, but it looks similar and has a very similar parts breakdown. I recall previous discussion regarding those aftermarket stepside beds (though it does looks much like the Chevy Stepside bed, especially the fenders) which was added once the truck arrived in the U.S. Not sure if that was here or on another forum, but Revell's first in the series was a (mostly accurate) replica of this customized Chevy LUV, which had that specific stepside bed installed by the builder:

1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Station Wagon with Trailer
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't see why. Plenty of SBCs available, but very few Chevy I6 engines. Considering the original included one, and this kit is more or less an homage to the original, it makes sense to me. Steve G or Mike W would probably know or could comment. -
1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Station Wagon with Trailer
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm assuming (uh-oh) the forthcoming I6 engine will be new, and not an exact copy of the original (which had a large hole, through which the metal axle passed). Same optional fuel injection option this time? -
Depends upon the Packers schedule. ? I'm guessing (hoping) it'll be the first Sunday in November, as they have traditionally done for the last few years (save for 2020).

Basically, you line up outside, they open the doors at noon, and people rush in with the hope of finding that uber rare 19xx AMT annual built up model for $76.00. They have parts bags, containers filled with tires, storage bins with bumpers, engine parts, etc. to dig through, old built models with their boxes, some without boxes, decal sheets, and so on. You should definitely make the trip. Lunch is on me.
