I know I have it good. I grew up building Monogram kits, and while the detail was s bit lacking, the fit and finish was good enough to never make me lose interest...and I still build them today. I guess I'm a Monogram loyalist. I understand comparing the MPC DOH '69 Charger to Revell's '69 R/T is an apples to oranges deal, but that doesn't mean the '69 Charger in any of it's various guises still isn't a lousy kit. When I see kits like the Mysterion and Lil Coffin at swap meets, nine times out of ten they're in the cheap seats, which is to say in boxes underneath the tables, tied up in plastic bags with "$3" written on them with a black Sharpie marker. You had to use a ton of glue to hold them together, 'cuz there sure wasn't enough surface area to form a permanent bond between two pieces. I agree on the Golden Age comment 100%, and it's been that way for at least a decade IMHO.

Sooooo, You have Canada and Alaska, Harry has the lower 48 States, and Gregg keeps Hawaii in line. Who's got Puerto Rico?
-
AMT '69 Dodge Daytona, hands down. There are what, 42 pieces in the entire kit? Not a good sign when the box art model's wheels aren't even included in the kit. Yep, still mad about that one. I had a ton of trouble with the Revell Ed Roth Mysterion kit, too. Very thin parts, 75% of which are chromed, and a very compact model with lots of detail. Getting everything to align and stay glued together after scraping the chrome from the joints was mission impossible.

Fella's Juregen needs some help
Casey replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You have to make sure the radii of the arcs is the same for the lettering and the tire. Can he meausure the radius of the side wall on the tires he plans to use and post that info? Are dry transfers or decals the only options for him? Options: Find a set of Arii BFGs. I recall these were real rubber and looked very nice, but I've never had a set in my hands. Use the MPC BFGs with raised letters (not the best looking tires, IMHO) -
Nice Cheetah. There must've been at least one kit with a set of bi-scale Minilite wheels in it, right?
-
It's a shame MPC converted this kit into a monster truck in the '80s...but it was the '80s. The two-tone whote and blue looks great. I think a set of wagon wheel-type wheels (maybe those in the MPC Mount'n Goat Jeep Commando kit?) would look great on this truck.
-
I can only imagine how great this would look with one of TDR Innovations' forthcoming 1/16th scale small block Chevy engines and a Muncie 4-speed transmission underneath. Please keep us updated on your progress.
-
Ah gotcha. I mis-read your above post which said both were printed on the same sheet.
-
^^ What he said. I have neither the patience nor desire to restore and rebuild built kits, so I have a great appreciation for those who do. The M8B was my first glue kit ever at the age of eight- talk about being overwhelmed! I think I used half a jar of Pactra silver on the rear wing alone.

Wow, nice work so far. Is it 1/12th or 1/16th scale? Or neither?? I'm guessing it is/was based on either the Monogram 1/12 '57 or the AMT '55/'57. Looks great!
-
The are decals 1/25th scale, correct? I guess they'd be useful for adding the missing Road Runners, but not much else on a 1/24th scale kit. I will have to order a sheet from KM for my 1/25th JoHan Superbird project. They look great, which is what I've always heard. I was unaware the 6-slot Moapr cop car wheels came in the Petty version of Monogram's (err, Revell's) Superbird kit. You learn something new every day...

Casey replied to doug2013's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have one I made from a fire extinguisher a few years ago: I added a small disc and filed flutes in it to make it look more like the valve knob, and painted it blue. -
A serious goodbye for now

1/24 Revell '69 Pontiac GTO "The Judge" 2'n1
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes it does. I think it includes some Royal Bobcat GTO stripes and emblems on the decal sheet, too. -
1/24 Revell '69 Pontiac GTO "The Judge" 2'n1

You're right. I zoomed in on the related pics to the above two and found copyright dates of '82 for the white '69 and '84 for the '68. -
1/24 Revell '69 Pontiac GTO "The Judge" 2'n1
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The first incarnation of this kit was the '69 Pontiac GTO with the "The Judge" option, released in 1982: The '68 GTO Street Machine, kit number 2208, was the second version, released in 1984: -
That caught my eye, too. Nicely done. The color reminds me of the late '70's resto rods trend, especially Jake Jacobs panel.

Hobby Lobby accepts only Hobby Lobby coupons, but they do have their model kits on sale for 30% off about once every five weeks. That's not bad since you can buy as many as you want for 30% off, versus only one item (well, more if you print multiple coupons and have your wife/girlfriend/husband/partner/child use another coupon in a separate transaction. The HL in West Bend, WI I visit has a good selection of current domestic kits, and usually has all the Round2 stuff on hand. I've seen Trumpeter kits, as well an Tamiya and Aoshima, though maybe three Japanese-sourced kits at most at any one time. You can view their weekly flier at www.hobbbylobby.com and see what's on sale and what this week's coupon is good toward. It seems the generic 40% off coupon comes around once a month or so, and it's here this week: http://hobbylobby.com/weekly/coupon.cfm If you're eyeing up that 1/8 Revell Big T (which they sell for about $100.00), that's only $60 with the coupon! HL has enough craft and hooby stuff to keep you busy looking for hours. Magnifying lenses, resin casting supplies, brass and aluminum rod/tubing/shapes, storage containers (great for getting your parts boxes organized), paints, airbrushes, etc., etc.

Is anyone else having virus/malware issues?
Casey replied to seeker589's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If any of you having problems clicked on this thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27025 ...that could've been your source. I cut and pasted the link posted in that thread (pic of an Audi A8 on some video game) in my address bar, went there, and viewed the pic. Shortly after, my computer was turned off for the night. This morning upon turning my computer on I got the malware pop-ups like crazy, so I did a system retore to a few days prior andthe malware is gone. -
I love Hang Ten Darts. Were you able to find some bright orange flocking to replicate the orange shag carpet on the 1:1 Hang Tens? In case anyone wasnts to see more pics of Hang Ten Darts, click HERE .

Guessing by the Chrysler Hemi engine in front of it and the shape of the case, I'm going to say it's a 727 TorqueFlite. It's a rare sight to see both a water pump and supercharger belt on the same engine, since the water pump almost always interferes with the blower belt's usual path. Add an idler pulley and a longer blower belt, and problem solved.
-
This should be interesting, judging by your screen name.
-
Many race cars run with a battery only, and no alternator to re-charge it...but you do need (well, should have) a water pump if the car is running a full cooling system with upper and lower hoses and a radiator. If it's a full-race car, you could get away with no radiator and eliminate the water pump entirely.

Casey replied to henry57's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Hmmm, I kind of like them looking like low trim level "work" wheels, wearing cheap white paint. The truck is looking great, and the understated color really works well with such a massive vehicle.
