I don't think any of this is a surprise. It sounds exactly like what Round2 stated they were doing, as well, they did just that. Revised front end, new, correct wheels for the movie car, and decals to match. Also not surprising is the red color, which they did for the Christine '57 Plymouth Fury, too...also a movie car ("Silver Screen") tie-in kit. I am almost 100% certain there will be future variations, and likely new/different decals options, too, so consider this a first release, intended for the collector with future variants targeted at builders.

Definitely, but people have been clamoring for such a kit for years, so maybe the demand is truly there. I'm not big into sci-fi so I couldn't come up with any sci-fi/"big rig" subjects which would be obvious combinations of the two. Maybe assuming there's even a sci-fi connection is ill-advised, too, but I think the Duel truck dovetails well with AMT's vintage big truck offerings. Maybe they could even re-use the existing ex-IMC tanker trailer?

That could be. I'm not familiar at all with these kits, and only basing my guesses upon the parts layouts of previous issues and this new one. It appears there are new separate clear headlight and parking light lenses, too. Looking back at the '73's parts layout, I don't see separate headlight lenses, and MPC kits were notorious for having molded in headlights. Hopefully Rob or someone else is able to share the contents and we can all see what is, in fact, new and/or different.

Here's a larger, clearer image of the box bottom, and there is definitely a new front bumper and lower valence panel, as well as a re-tooled(?) piece (see lower right arrow below) grouped with the hood and console(?). Not sure if this is a radiator support panel or the grille piece, but it's definitely hollow/empty in the middle compared to what's included with the MPC '73 that was reissued a few years ago:

No, there was never any connection between the two kits. Not sure who, if anyone, checks and verifies the accuracy of scalemates info, but it's always best to verify yourself, like you're doing here. Lindberg and Monogram have always been separate companies and/or brands. The majority Lindberg kits are lesser quality kits, compared to other companies from the same time period(s). The Monogram " Big" series kits were nothing more than upscaled 1/24 scale kits, but they were well-designed, and have been the standard for comparison since their introduction. While not perfect, they have held up very well. Large scale Lindberg kits, well, lets just say many corners were cut and accuracy and scale fidelity were not their strong points. The tires are a bit undersized in my experience, too. Monogram 1/8 scale Big-series kits trump any Lindberg 1/8 kits all day, every day, so save up if you must, but I think you're be more satisfied with the Monogram kits in the end. There's a reason the reissued 1/8 Lindberg Big Red Rod is available is such great numbers and for so little money.

I wonder if the Hot Curl figure is gone for good, but it would be neat to see it return with a reissue if possible. Round2 tossed out the idea (and maybe went even further, as the issued each a distinct kit number) of reissuing the Hot Curl, Curl's Girl, Hot Shot, etc. larger, stand alone figures in 2012, but it seems public interest was tepid at best:

Maybe some p/e T5 emblems, too? I saw hpiguy/Chris has this kit in his queue, so it shouldn't be too long before we get a close-up look at the contents.

Yeah, I was way off there, and there's no '67 Impala wagon coming. ? But, there was a new Round2 video two weeks ago, in which Jamie Hood mentioned an automotive kit in the early stages of development. "If you like the Supernatural Impala, you'll definitely be in on this one, too". Sounds like it could be sci-fi related (which might explain Jamie's involvement?), so view the video below and let the speculation begin.

They did when they covered the '70 Camaro and Pro Stock Vega...and mentioned the mystery wagon kit. Jamie Hood is the sci-fi expert at Round2, and he admitted in the video the automotive side of the kit business is not really his area of expertise, but that an automotive model-centric video may follow. Maybe once they have more news to share and things to show that video will happen, possibly including another all-star guest appearance from one of our north-of-the-border members? ?

Monogram 1960 Chevy Sedan Delivery
Casey replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Original Monogram issue, #6752, from 1970: Revell-Monogram "Street Fighter two" reissue, #85-2597, from 1999: 85-4262, from 2009: 85-4262, from 2014, slightly tweaked box art: Kind of amazing Revell was able to revert back to the original after making so many significant changes over the years. Not complaining, though. The Quicksilver version isn't horrible, and definitely has that mid '70s street machine vibe, but the Bad Actor version...just trying too hard. The last issue was made overseas, and since the Revell-Tom Daniel partnership seems to be dead, don't hesitate if you want one and find one of these. Here's a good look at the parts, though everything looks too glossy (and the decal sheet are from newer issues) to be 1970 vintage: -

I stumbled upon this Monogram SSP flyer on eBay, showing the Sheriff's Blazer was on the list, but I don't think the reissue ever happened?:
