Revell 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS Convertible (Resin)
DJMar replied to kelson's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm just curious, are you missing the interior doglegs for the convertible top? -
Now that's a cool effect!

Pontiac GTO 1967 (MPC 1/25 scale)… a NIGHTMARE build…
DJMar replied to Tommy124's topic in Model Cars
That blue is so tasty! Great looking Goat, congrats on seeing it through to the end. ? I agree, the kit is a bit of a bear to build. It's got quite a few fit issues. -
Loving these! The green on the coupe works really well with the scallops. ?

This really captures the essence of a lot of Raggare cars I've seen on the internet. Great build!

Love this build, it captures the feel of the real thing so well. ??

I think we have the sluggish forum problems solved
DJMar replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in How To Use This Board
Ditto on the 504 errors. The site was completely down for me most of the afternoon, 14 Sept. Just got back on now, around 17:00 PDT. It is slow to respond, though. -
Any of the Revell '64-'66 Chevy trucks are another good option, in addition to the kits already mentioned. Personally, I prefer the '64/'66 Fleetsides over the one piece bed in the '65 Stepside kit, but any of them will build up nicely. The AMT 60 Chevy Fleetside/Apache is another good kit. The stock version leaves a bit to be desired in the wheel/tire department, but other than that, it's a gem.

Maybe rivets of the proper size? Or an appropriately sized piece of styrene rod (or sprue) with a heat flare on the end? Actually, let me check my stash, I think I may have extras of those from the '29 kit. EDIT: These?

A few rambling thoughts, just my two cents, yadda yadda... Inkjet printers, because of their design and operation, don't produce the same crisp lines and fine details as laser or thermal printers. This is especially apparent when trying to print something like vehicle lettering - or even worse, a license plate - at 1:25 scale. So, in my opinion, using an inkjet to print certain things to scale already puts you at a disadvantage. I've had different results using different inkjet printers. Usually, the higher the quality of the printer, the better the results. But with lower end printers, I have almost always struggled with clean printing and legible details. And it seems to get worse as the print size decreases. Even a good quality inkjet will still struggle to print anywhere near the level of detail you see in a kit decal. And that's the reality that we're up against when trying to print these things at home. Here are some examples I printed on a mid-priced inkjet. The images are obviously enlarged to show detail. The crosses are roughly 8mm (.31 in) in diameter. Most of them are legible, but some colors printed better than others. These are printed on clear decal paper. The black looks dark here but definitely grayed out a bit on application. And yes, that's inkjet spatter due to dirty print heads. These look halfway decent at a normal viewing distance but fall short compared to a regular kit decal. I printed this pinup on a different, more expensive inkjet on white decal paper. The decal is 11mm (.43 in) tall. You can see that even though the details are finer and the print quality is better, there is dithering along with some waviness in the lines. These actually look pretty good at a normal viewing distance, but are still not quite as clean or crisp as a kit decal. I believe that STS Scale Model Decals does custom work, but I don't know their pricing structure. You can find them at https://stsdecals.com/

This is a really great build, with a lot of cool & subtle weathering. I totally dig it. ? A friend of mine in college had a similar '79 Nova in blue, complete with the long rear shackles and wide tires. It wasn't quite as beat up as this, but it was close!

Those flames are looking mighty tasty! ??

Ditto. Performance has been spotty for the past 48 hours. It seems especially slow when jumping between forums. Then it works fine for a bit. -
What would YOU like to see as a model
DJMar replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was reading through some old issues of R&C when I realized that some of us might enjoy a new kit of the 1955 Pontiacs - Chieftain, Star Chief or even the 2 door Safari wagon. -
Delete, double post.

Yes, lighter color first, then mask and shoot with the darker color. I'm with you on the gold BMF, I think that will look the best for the side insert. How do you plan the break at the rear? I've seen it done a number of different ways and none of them look easy.

Well, you certainly nailed that stance! ?? -
I absolutely love two-tone on these wagons, but they do have some funny break lines for the paint, especially at the rear. Nice to see this one back in action!

Forum website has been sluggish for the last few days
DJMar replied to peteski's topic in How To Use This Board
The past 24 hours has been very slow loading, especially going from forum to forum, as well as loading any thread that has large pics in it. Just a heads up.
