Tamiya LP48 Sparkling silver for chrome?
DJMar replied to dmthamade's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I'm pretty sure Spotlight Hobbies is the place. https://www.spotlighthobbies.com/chrome-plating-service/ -
This is pretty cool. MASK was not in my timeline (I was in college in '85) but I have two much younger siblings who watched it. I remember they had a bunch of the toy vehicles, but especially Thunderhawk and Switchblade!

I'm always, always down for a Z car!

Wow, it's been a long while since I've seen one of those built up. The 90s were wild. I think I still have ½ can of Colors By Boyd Chezoom Teal somewhere in my paint museum.

1932 ford pickup truck
DJMar replied to Bullybeef's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I was looking at this kit in my stash, which is a Lindberg release from the early '90s. You are correct, the detail is pretty faint. I bet you could sand it off, line up the bed as you wanted, and most people wouldn't notice. Or you could just replicate the outer bead roll without worrying about the fender reveal, which is mostly hidden on a full fendered truck anyway. A good number of '32 truck owners go with custom or modified beds. It's pretty standard to cut down a '34 bed that will be used on a '32 frame, or to have custom bed sides made, some of which have no stamping detail. Take this all with a few grains of salt (and maybe a lime and a shot) because my '32 truck project never saw the light of day. You're further along than I ever got! -
Out of the entire High Roller series, the Luv was my least favorite, but...ok, fine I'll build it again! Also, I will snag the S-10 if it is indeed the lowrider kit, as I missed it last time around.

Very sad and very true. RIP Gene, a true genius. Thank you for all the inspiration over the last 70+ years. https://www.autoweek.com/news/a64040173/gene-winfield-custom-car-icon-obituary/

1932 ford pickup truck

Cool. I'm curious how you plan to handle the bed swap, given that you want to use a stock length bed. I tried this conversion once, right when Revell released the '32 3 window, so back in early 1997 or so. I could never figure out how to get the bed details to look right. The 1932 Fords (passenger & commercial) had a 106" wheelbase, but the 1933-34 Fords had a 112" wheel base. The problem with using the '34 bed in this instance is that - even though the '32 & '34 beds are the same overall length - the bed side stampings from the '34 don't line up with the wheelbase of the '32. It's a small detail but it becomes obvious once you get the bed in the fenders/on the frame. The '32 cab also sits on the frame a wee bit further back than the '34, but that's small potatoes considering the larger issue. I suppose if one wanted to go the custom route, you could just sand off the offending details and go from there. At the time, I also thought about sanding off the details and reconstructing them with half round rod and putty, but that seemed like so much work to do 4 times over (considering the inside and outside of each bed side). Here's a a stock '32 pickup. Check out how long the bed overhang is at the rear! -
I'm digging this! I think the paint turned out great, that yellow looks fantastic. Nice and smooth, and the quarter panel decal makes it pop. Honestly, this makes me want to dig this gem out of the stash. I think I've got the Dirty Donny version in there somewhere...

Very nice! I really love the color, that blue is tasty. Is this the old AMT '68 Roadrunner Pro Street kit?

I've been following this in the background, and I'm really blown away by the amount and quality of the work shown in this thread. I didn't know Roger at all, but I have seen a bunch of his stuff online. One of my favorite builds - out of all the incredible models he created - was this gem that he crafted out of the cartoonish AMT '32 Ford Phantom Vickie. He made a goofy looking kit into something so simple and understated and classy and downright cool. He wrote that it was a just for fun build, but there was obviously a whole bunch of work that went into it.

It's a shame he doesn't offer these any longer, but I get it. I wish I had known about these when they were available. -
1992 C1500 W/T
DJMar replied to WillyBilly's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That turned out really nice! I know the color isn't exactly factory stock, and the V6 isn't the right one for the model year, but it's a sweet looking truck. I dig it. Also, that's a really great trick for the headlights. Cheap AND it works a treat. -

Nice, I dig it! Regular base model trucks (and cars) don't get enough love. It looks like the Iceman grille fits really well. I've been thinking about a similar build with an old C3500 promo I have in the stash and have considered using that same grille. -
Love this! Really, really cool build.

Classic Toyota Celica Funny Car
DJMar replied to Just Jim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Back in 1974, there was a Swedish drag team running a Chevy-powered, Celica-bodied flopper, sponsored by Canon. AFAIK, there has never been a kit of this car. I'm going to assume the model you posted was scratchbuilt. https://www.hotrod.com/features/united-nations-april-1974-982-1048-116-1/ -
That color is perfect for this car. I don't know how I missed the rest of the build thread on this one, but she's a beauty.
