    My 2011 builds

Wow every one is badass !!!! Can't wait for the 2012 crop !
  2. Mr. Obsessive that suspension looks top shelf. One question however. If you make the control arms adjustable, did you not have to build also some form of adjustable ball joints?
  3. This thing is completely badass !!! Never seen bare metal foil that looks that smooth. Top shefl ! A few questions if I may. What did you use for the fuel hoses? And chamois? Any particular brand? Ive seen cheap ones and very expensive ones, does it matter ? Again badass !!! Jeff

    1966 Ford Fairlane

It is what it is. Not really too concerned too much if its not entirely acurate as long as it goes together nicely. I knew about that chrome but did not add it because I thought it looked better without. It just doesnt seem right. If Ford added some kind of trim to the rear pillar as well, or if it was a bubbletop design, It would look more appealing to me.I sure could have used those photos while I was building mine. That picture will come in handy as I might have to build my own.

    1966 Ford Fairlane

Thank you all for the kind words. And for letting me know about the caution sticker. Big time goof but its there to stay. Have to remeber that for next time. What makes the kit not good? I noticed that the engine sits far too low. So I added some plastic peices to the frame to prop it up. But that changes the angle to the tramsmission and it would not fit so I had to carve large parts of top to make it fit. Second thing is I hate when the interior panels dont line up with the exterior. To get it too line up, I had to grind alot off the top of the interior parts and the bottom of body shell to get the top of the door panels to reach the top of the doors. I also had to position the frame a little more forward so that the arches of the body lined to the arches in the interior. The parcel tray is actually glued to the rear window and not the body shell like it should be. I find this to be a problem with model kits that use a rear seat as a seperate piece. The lower radiator hose and the water pump is one piece so If you want a lower radiator hose, you will need to cut it off and make another because you will not be able to get the motor in if you do. It bottoms out on a piece of the frame. And they added two sets of badges, for a GT and GTA which is good but they did not even add ONE set of mirrors! Oh one more thing. the front strut rods and sway bars are formed into a big block of plastic. I thought this looked stupid so I carved the whole thing and made now strut rods and outer sway bars. Be nice it they made the assembly a serperate piece as a happy medium like the 1966 nova. If these sort of things dont bother you, I recommend it, it is a good model kit. Nice details and most of the things fit nicely. Like the fact that you have an option of two different forms of transmission.
  6. This thing is bad-AAAAASSS. Jeff
  7. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/OK-INDUSTRIES-Wire-Wrapping-Wire-2TDT8?Pid=search this is what you want.
  8. I am going to consider this finished. Amt did not include side mirrors or shock towers so when I come across something, I will add them, but not sure how long that will take. I tried to make the best of this terrible model kit.
  9. I probly would have alcladed the entire thing and then filled the low black areas with thinned down paint but that's because I dont have the patience to try to paint all those thin silver lines. But it does look really good.
  10. These are all badass but my vote is the 1961. Best year for coupe devilles in my opinion. Even Elvis said 1961 was his favorite year for Cadillacs ! That is top shelf !!!! Where did you get that? I need one
  11. One one thing. The thing on top of the water pump going to the manifold, is supposed to be a rubber hose. Might want to give it a little black paint but other than that, everything is top shelf !!
  12. I disagree with you choices. The badger 150 is the better brush but if I were you I would upgrade to something gravity fed. Much easier to clean. I have had nothing but problems with my 150. The needle bearing might give you lots of headaches. Goto the badger website first and see what they have. Thats where they put the blemished product. Right now there is a badger 100 for just over thirty dollars. If you do buy a badger make sure it has the screw in bearing. And check out the online buy-sell website in your area as well. I just found an Iwata eclipse for 85, never used.
  13. Same thing happens to me brother. Use more clear if you have too. I noticed alot of orange peel in the clear. Rember that the smoother the surface is, the less sanding you will need to do. Actually, when I went back to the primer stage, it looks to me like its the surface of the primer that is the problem. Primer it, then hit it with some wet dry sandpaper, maybe 1000 grit , then spray the color coat. That should help.
  14. Interesting idea !!!! . But in my opinion, those decals on the door and roof and windscreen look rediculous and need to go. I am not sure if this is already glued together but what would be interesting would be too only have the drivers side scoop as part of some kind of cooling sysytem for the turbocharger.

    1966 Fairlane

Just need to polish down the body and start to assemble it. Put four coats of clearcoat so hopefully I won't burn thru it.
  16. I have using 2 part epoxy glue, much stronger than white glue , but much more messy.
  17. Ok, so what grit do you guys start with? The 3200 grit detail master paper seemed like the quivelent of perhaps 1000 grit autobody paper. More than enough to get rid of the orange peel. Keep in mind, I am not trying to get that ultra glossy look, , just glossy, swirl free look, if that makes any sense.
  18. Thanks, how much clear do you apply? Surely going over it with so many different pieces pf paper , you would burn thru the clear before getting to the end.
  19. Recently I tried my first black paintjob and I just cannot seem to get that smooth finish without tiny scratches. Normally I use a piece of 2000 grit paper from the autobodt store and soak in in a bowl of soapy water for a lil bit. Then hit with scratch-X, now I use swirl remover. I was happy with that but with black it does not hide these super small scratches. I bought some detail master 3200 paper and this stuff is as gritty if not grittier than my 2000. Should I try the 6000 or 8000 paper?
