Drive your Chevrolet to the levee...
58 Impala replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know it's a worn out subject, but I think GM and Chrysler should have been left to restructure. The bailout pretty much left them to business as usual. They both have nice looking products, but that's where it ends.I work on these cars and trucks (Ford,GM,Chrysler)the quality and fit and finish of these vehicles are disappointing. I want to feel good about buying "American" but all they seem to care about is their profit margin, They are not like they were years ago, you still see 40,50 yr and older american cars. Todays cars are just throw away recyclables. -
Neat idea. Definitely have to try and stuff a blown motor of some kind in it.

Plasticote primer
58 Impala replied to my80malibu's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just went to their website, has anyone tried their plastic primer? -
The Spacecoast chapter of the IPMS is having a show on April 17-18. It will be held at the Holiday Inn on Cocoa Beach Fla. They usually have a good turnout of models, and the automotive table always has a good number on display. The level of modeling in all areas are exceptional.

I know how you feel, you have my sympathy. I had to put my 14 yr old beagle to sleep last year, I still choke up. I stayed and held her and told what a good dog she was till she was gone. I also felt like I was betraying her, but it was her time. Hope your grief fades quickly.

Hey Dirk, nice job. Are you going to the SpaceCoast IPMS show. I think the guys in the club (Tabletop Cruisers) would like to see your WIP. -
PE parts you got to be kidding
58 Impala replied to my 70 chevelle ss's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I have one word to help you. OptiVisor. My eyesight isn't what it used to be. I bought these magnifying glasses years ago, they help greatly with small parts such as PE. They offer different strength lenses depending on your eyesight. They are a little exspensive, but they are well made and the lenses are glass. You can get them through MicroMark. -
Very nice, love the color and the wide whites.

Questions About Working In Metals
58 Impala replied to randx0's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I recently read an article about soldering brass photo etch in Fine Scale modeling, good article. Does anyone know if you can solder nickel photo etch? -
Duplicolor has transparent metal colors in large aerosol cans for about $7. I've used them on ProTech fittings with the recommendation of Charlie. You can mount them on safety wire or put them on the end of a thinned down toothpick. Spray in light coats, it works well. They have red, blue and several other colors. The large cans will do alot of fittings.

F1 season is in full force!
58 Impala replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was a good first race. Michael didn't do to bad for a rusty 41-year old, I think he will improve. Ferrari is back, but I would keep my eye on Vettel in the Red Bull. They were very strong until he had header problems. It's going to be an interesting and exciting season. -
spray booth explosion
58 Impala replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I went looking around the Grainger website and found several shade-pole squirrel cage blowers. They had external 115v motors,100-200 cfm,and were $50-$100.I wonder if these would be sufficient and safe? I'd really like to build a booth to the dimensions I want, but I don't want to build anything dangerous. Any comments or opinions out there? -
Gregg Went Off The Deep End
58 Impala replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very nice car, Great choice. I'd rather have a Ford than an overpriced car from Government Motors. -
I don't know. There was a picture of him on the F1 website in a sport shirt, he looks to be in good shape for 41. The interview with him, he stated he is fit and very excited to get back in an F1 cockpit. He says he has been racing carts and GP2 cars. Hell he did 130 laps at Spain in one afternoon, not too shabby for and old guy.

I'm a Ferrari fan but, Ross Brawn + Mercedes + Michael Schumacher = one heck of a combination. I'm looking foward to the F1 season, it should be very exciting.

I know enamel never dries on vinyl tires. I've used acrylic and that works. Does anyone know if a flat white lacquer would work, like for instance Plasticoat white primer?

Great build, that is the nicest bug build I've seen. You hit the Cal look right on the spot, the wheels and tires from the 50 Ford work perfectly.

Grex Gck01 Airbrush Kit
58 Impala replied to fordsixty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm curious how that airbrush works. I was talking to a vendor of airbrushes, inquiring about the Grex (made in China). He said they stopped carrying them because of poor customer support and quality issues. He recommended a couple of trigger versions from Richpen (made in Japan), he said they were better. I would like a trigger type airbrush as it is similar to spraygun control and techniques which I have been use to for over 35 yrs. -
Where To Find Paint Color Charts?
58 Impala replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the Dupont website. I wasn't looking for a particular color right now. I wanted a source for all stock factory colors.
