  1. The red lenses You see are for the custom bezels, not stock. Also this kit has no NASCAR type tires.
  2. I don't have any one specific kit. But when I was 14 ( Im 49 now ) I got a bunch of kits for Christmas. some of the ones I remember are Monogram's 66 Malibu, one in red and the black one too. Amt 63 Vette, AMT Coors 1/25th Tractor Trailer set. ERTL's Diecast Trans AM, a motorized submarine kit ( Normally I only built automotive ) and so many car truck kits I cant remember them all. Back then, I built them out of the box, no detailing, and very little painting, and no mold line removal. So, they were all built bu the end of Chrstmas vacation. LOL
  3. Looks like the Grinch really exists.
  4. Very cool, but why the hemi ?????? Its a Chevy !!! And I agree the white walls don't fit the theme.
  5. Firecrackers, BB Guns, Burning with gas/lighter fluid, hammers, "demo derbys" Using the automatic garage door as a crusher, or using the tumble cycle on the dryer.
  6. Russ, m talking about Boardman Hobby shop. That's where I purchase about 98% of my stuff, the other 2% is between Hobby Lobby, Hobby Town, Amers, Swap Meets, and online. And to James, Yes my sister worked at Trumbull Camera and Hobby just about the time the changed over. I was out of the hobby at the time and into HO slots cars. She called me and said they were having a hobby clearance. So, I drove up there, and found no slot car stuff. However, her fellow employee handed me a cardboard box, and said fill it up, so I put a crapload of kits, some paints, and a teddy bear for my girlfriend at the time. Went to the register, and he said, give me a $20.00 So I went back a few days later, and cleared out the remainder of kits for another $20. So, I was back into the hobby after two trips.
  7. John, Yes I'm 48 years old, so I'm familiar with Amers, however, I pretty much shop Boardman Hobby Now. I do know one former member of YAMA I haven't seen him in years, his name is George F.
  8. Russ, welcome to the forum,....Im Joe. I live in Yongstown,....the only club I know of is S.V.A.S.M Shenango Valley Area Scale Modelers. They meet in Sharon. They have a website that has more info. Although the site could use some work. Years ago there was YAMA Youngstown Area Modelers Association. But, I think that's long gone now. I've often thought of starting a club in this area, but never got to it, and the logistics, like where to meet, when, who, costs ? Well, again, welcome, there is a lot of info on this, and you can search old articles for more info.
  9. Even a diecast on a dash may result in melted windows, since they are plastic. it happened to a friend of mine.
  10. Very cool but its missing Chris Farley hanging off the antenna !!
  11. Not sure where to get this. The friend I painted this for got it in trade, along with the International Metro van I did. the Ford came with 3 grilles. So, as to who made it, and if its still available, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe check ebay, and swap meets.
  12. Thanks, I think I'll return to Easy Off, its always seemed to work fast. The PP I bought might be a generic version, like said it only stripped the black, and only slightly touched the silver in 36 hours. Or I'll go with brake fluid, if it were diecast, I could use the hard stuff, automotive stripper.
  13. I need to strip a kit,....I bought a big jug of Purple Power form the dollar store,....Im usually a Easy Off guy. Well, the kit has been sitting in this stuff for over 24 hours, and only some of the black trim and such has come off. Its painted red, not sure of whos or what kind of paint. The red and the silver trim has not even been touched yet, no effect on it at all. Now, do I need to get a name brand Purple Power, or should I just go back to Easy Off ??
  14. Well pretty much, Im too young to have enjoyed the good old days. But even in the 60s they were mostly stock,....a local Ford dealer had a 64 Galaxie on their showroom floor, and it was way closer to stock than anything today. Plus today, there's way too much regulation, and rules, sorry to todays fans, but it's plain boring, plus Toyota in NASCAR ???? Yea, I'm sure a lot of moonshiners back in the day were running Corollas with a trunk full of shine. :-) Again, no offense, to each his own.
  15. I don't give a rat's behind about NASCAR, or any professional sport,.....so I don't care one bit. I buy my parts from whomever has them in stock and the cheapest, and with gas prices being what they are the closest. Who they sponsor or don't sponsor has no effect on my purchase or non purchase. And on a side note, if NASCAR was like the old days where they ran true stock cars, Id be way more interested.
  16. Far out man !!! Cool V Dub !!!
  17. Love it, great weathering,...great color combo.
  18. Great looking build, and I assume You're a fan of the band or movie ????
  19. Love the patina look, and the different approach to all of it.
  20. Cool, Ive seen a lot of the combo kits,...but never that one.
  21. Cool build, I built this years and years ago, back in the mid 70's I picked it up on rainy Saturday afternoon, and had it built by that night. Painted very little of it, and glue bombed together. Brings back memories.
  22. Rusty, crusty, but trusty !!! Cool build !!
  23. Thanks for the compliments, and as for doing well, racing it ??? Ha ha hes run it a few times, its not fast and it doesnt run too great, it's very heavy !!! A very thick resin.....but like Jeff says his stuff looks cool. He's into the barn find and old school look. Wide whites, patina, rust. He has some shiney too, but most of his cars are old rods and gassers, while a lot of guys go pro-mod styles.
  24. Thanks everybody !!! I'm not sure which is harder, a shiny paint job, or the worn weathered look.
