  1. That came out cool! There were some iconic racecars that ran that Marlboro livery - I’d like to build one of Senna’s F1 cars at some point
  2. My wife’s kitten:
  3. I definitely am! Keep them coming until I have time to read every single magazine myself - love getting some cool highlights!
  4. I'm really impressed with the well-done changes you're making to this kit...makes me wanna build one of my own! Although I haven't built this particular one, these somewhat simplified Monogram kits usually build into a nice looking convincing model when they're done, and the changes you're making will just add to the finished piece. Keep going!
  5. Guess they got that Ford license then…I’m pleased, because I wanted to build a replica of this car! I’ve never had any real favorite driver or team and I’m a pretty casual NASCAR fan, but I REALLY enjoyed the Clash at the Colosseum this year on the little 1/4 mile track…and Logano won that one! Looks like I’d need to probably source some additional decals to make a perfect replica of that particular car but I’ll be grabbing one of these for sure!
  6. I tried BMF on a firewall for a recent build, and it worked OK, but not as good as just Alclading IMO. Main problem was you could see a little of the lumpiness of the glue and it was tough to get it as smooth as I wanted. The aluminum stuff might work better as it’s less reflective and you could get away with a little more in terms of not seeing the imperfections…
  7. Great tips, thanks David - and you're right on the benefits of Createx paint. If I can improve my skills and learn a good technique for nice glossy finishes then I'd be happy enough to phase out lacquer and enamel clears from my process...
  8. Really nice clean work on this Carl - love that color!
  9. I have not, personally - but I’ve been wanting to! Didn’t realize they stocked that - thanks for the tip! I’ve never mastered a technique for polishing Createx acrylic clear that gave me results as good as I can get with lacquers or enamels, but I’d love to figure one out…but I’ve seen some good results right out of the bottle with that high-gloss stuff so I’m interested to try it
  10. Thanks everybody! GREAT build @vtecfour! Some more progress…got a bunch of parts cleaned up and into primer: I shot a paintjob that I didn’t like in the end and redid it - settled now on Createx pearl orange - although I’ll be adding some more to this before I’m done, because can’t-leave-well-enough-alone-itus: Shot the engine in Alclad chrome then laid down some pearl candy…not a thing that probably happened very often in 1:1, but I’m giving myself some leeway for a showcar type build… And finally decided on an intake setup - decided on this cool Weber setup. Those little trumpets were kinda delicate but it’ll look cool chromed I think! Thanks for looking - more soon, soon as I’ve done more!
  11. That's not cool
  12. Been working on my Atlantis collection so I ordered their repop of the old Revell 57 Caddy, plus I picked up this little Tamiya saw for roof chops and more delicate work than my bigger razor saw is good for:
  13. I’ve been using that same stuff too lately - works great!
  14. Thank you to all who served, and those who serve today ??
  15. I know all of these are available relatively easily anyway in 'standard' format...but I really like these 'advent calendar' kits that Revell DE has put out the past few years: https://www.revell.de/en/products/specials/advent-calendar/ I like the idea of getting a part or three a day, and working through building the whatever-it-is and having something finished by Christmas. Seems like it would be a fun tradition! Anyone ever seen these for sale here? I can find most of them fairly easily on eBay, but they all come from overseas (Italy, mostly) and the shipping cost is fairly high as a result. Their 'mystery box' looks intriguing too: https://www.revell.de/en/products/specials/revell-boxen/revell-box-us-cars.html
  16. Haha, I DID fall down that rabbithole.... I saved a bunch of reference pics here, in case they're useful to you: https://public.fotki.com/NewYorkSpeedShop/11-cars/reference-material/mooneyes-dragster/
  17. On the subject of the colors - Atlantis posted this, this week:
  18. GREAT work - and you’re adding all the missing details that the kit doesn’t reproduce on that frame! I’ll be following!
  19. Haha, @NOBLNG beat me whilst I was looking for a link…but I got an set of these at Michaels a while back, and for a cheap set of tools they work pretty well! The white handled ones are radiused so you can make consistent round bends, and I use them all the time on brass or thin steel rod. There’s probably better out there…but I’ve been using mine for a couple of years and they do just what I need and haven’t given me any reason to try any others…
  20. That’s such a neat and tidy solution to setting up that rear end - looks great!!! Love it!
  21. Thanks fellas! Did a little more the last couple of nights and days… The Tweedy Pie has a distinctive dash with a radiused top, so I scratchbuilt something inspired by that…still not going for a REPLICA, but trying to take some of the main details I like and remix them into something of my own… The steering wheel will be much more upright than that, but it’s just putty’d in there right now…next chore was the floor - got a rough ‘sketch’ of that made: Did some of the fiddly work with spacers and shims and whatnot to get the wheels fitted to the tires nicely and getting it up on it’s wheels: And final little bits of fabrication I needed to do was just making some interior panels and find a seat. Went though a bunch of seats before I found one I liked…funnily enough, ended up with one from an AMT T kit ?? Not a single part here is ready to primer yet…but everything’s far enough that I can start finishing each part up nicely now, drill and pin where needed and actually start making all these mismatched parts look pretty! Thanks for looking - more soon, soon as I’ve done more!!
  22. What's really impressive about that build, is that it isn't THAT far away from being box stock either. Some beautiful 3d printed parts and some masterful building - but really inspiring to see what someone can do with a relatively simple kit to make it SO lifelike! Martin does GREAT work - and is a really nice guy...I thoroughly recommend checking out more of his work here: https://www.instagram.com/stokemodels/?hl=en
  23. That shade, in your photos at least, also looks pretty close to Createx dark blue, when applied over a white primer base. Easily found at most Hobby Lobbys - and easily mixed with a little white or black to get it dead-on...
  24. Good tip to find the really 'juicy' threads is to open up one of the forums and sort the threads by number of replies. The REALLY in depth projects tend to have a lot more replies and content to them than some of the simpler builds.
