I've been looking through this build again, and I'm wondering about the rear fender crease: consider making it parallel to the ground instead of tilting down toward the rear. I think this would appear to lift the rear a bit and give a more balanced look.

I like Bondo Professional Glazing and Body Putty (two part catalyzing) for this kind of filling and larger areas as well. It sets up in five minutes or so and is softer than styrene so is easy to sand without removing plastic. I do use CA and baking soda for strong bonds if a gap needs filling (pretty common with my hacked-up radical customs). For very small flaws, Bondo Glazing and Body Putty (one part red, like thick paint) works well and is very easy. Both Bondo products come in conveniently small tubes. Just trying to help.

I like your design, especially how it all fits together. Agree with your decisions so far. Love to see full customs on the forum. I've never tried Apoxie Sculpt, never even seen it in a store. Have you ever tried Loctite repair putty (general purpose, 5 min)? Wondering how it would compare. I started using it recently and can recommend it. It comes in a dark blue cylinder of putty with a white center - just cut off a piece, no measuring. Doesn't stick to wetted fingers but does adhere well to paint and styrene; hardens quickly so you can't mix up more than you can use in a few minutes. When hard (probably more like ten minutes plus if you've used any water with it), its easy to work and reasonably strong. Use alcohol for easy clean-up.

I love watching this kind of imaginative model building. -

Thanks for sharing your thinking behind this intriguing design. I'm eager to see how this goes. -
Great job in all respects!

Great work - design and build. Where did you get the Ardun heads and Scott blower?

Looks good. You might consider moving the turbo setup toward the center of the car to allow room for the tire to make a right turn. This would also give space for the air filter (K&N type?). The engine would be breathing hot air from the radiator but you could do smething about that if you want maximum performance. I'd eliminate the belt-driven fan and use a modern electric fan on the back of the radiator to help the fit.

Alternate-Reality 1935 Allison-powered LSR car
GerN replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
What a great project! Artillery-style wheels might look good. I seem to remember the Allison was supercharged to cope with high altitudes; I wonder how running at the Salt Flats would affect it. -
Excellent in every respect.

You used a brush to paint the body? I certainly can't tell that from the photos. Nice work!

Very realistic, attractive model and a great choice of subject. Well done!

Ace-Garageguy is correct (as usual): Bondo Professional glazing and spot putty is good stuff and also what I use. A tube lasts me a long time - I use as little as possible to avoid sanding dust and effort. You can affect curing time by how much catalyst you add. The mixed putty will slightly self-level after application. It will clog sandpaper if you hit it before its completely cured. Cured errant small bits often can be knocked off with a fingernail. Cured putty has almost no flexibility. You will need to use CA glue if gluing cured putty. Hope this helps.

Custom 1966 Volvo P1800s "Bringing this back to the bench!"

I think I have an old built 3500 GT. I could donate a slush-cast copy of the front end to this project if that would be helpful (if I can find it). -

Even with the two-tone paint emphasizing the added top, your design still holds together surprisingly well. Bold design, great execution. Well done! -

Really impressive work - definitely get this beauty cast. You deserve to have a solid copy just in case Frankenstein develops stress cracks. -
What an outstanding project choice!

Reynolds makes an aluminum foil called non-stick. It's already coated with a release agent. I haven't used it for foil casting, so I can't vouch for it, but it should work. It does work very well for making pizza.

Your version looks very right - the subtle changes make it look much better. Excellent concept and write-up as well.

Chopped Porsche 911 widebody Speedster: Aug.24
GerN replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Kudos on the practical thought behind the attractive design. The extreme lowering makes the wheel openings look awkward to me; maybe close them a bit at the bottom to give vertical lower sides? This should also add to the visual length, accenting the lowering. -
