  1. I wanted to try something different and after hearing from some fellow MCM people, figured out a custom rearend. I tried to make the seats look like leather by painting them with Testor's Leather and then put a coat of brown wash over that. Final color will be HOK Root Beer pearl. This is my first shot at seatbelts. Sorry about the water drops. I had just finished some sanding.
  2. I been working on this puppy for a while. I'm planning to shoot it with HOK purple pearl.
  3. Painted it once and had to go into the purple pond, but it's painted for real now. The trunk will be flocked to match the interior.
  4. Fantastic build and amazing details.
  5. Hiya Murphy. I'm not from MN and don't belong to any model clubs but am glad you found the best model car forum around. You can learn lots of things here, make trades for free, and get answers to many model related questions. Welcome.
  6. I can't believe it! I've been a member of the MCM Forum for 2 years today. I've been building models since 1958 and have never learned so much about building since I've been here. I think my skill level has increased significantly. I've traded with some terrific people, met some new friends, laughed, and have had a thoroughly good time. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of the most bestest model car forum there is.
  7. The package from VWDave arrived today with California Wheels '69 Vette, '67 Chevelle SS 396, and a '67 Coronet. A big thanks to VWDave for trading with me.
  8. Whew! Put some details to a kit. Looking great!
  9. Very nice looking build.
  10. If you want to buy a FORD (Found On Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily, F... Over Rebuilt Dodge - NOT First On Race Day)) wait until the 2013 F150 comes out. Pictures of that thing are awesome. I trded my 2003 Ford Ranger Edge for a 2010 Nissan Frontier a few months ago. The Frontier is an extremely nice truck - especially compared to the Ford cheap piece of garbage.
  11. Oh wow! I had one of those Phantoms. I bought it from paper route money when Mom & Dad were at work. By the time they got home I had taken the fenders off, replaced the handlebars with ape hangers, kept the luggage rack and tank and had painted a mint green. I think brand new it cost $50 or $60. My folks were pissed when they got home. Dad threw it in the trunk and went to the Schwinn dealer to return it. No way since I had stripped it down and painted it. They grounded me.
  12. The first photobox I made was from heavy white paper (a Dukefan69 post). The second one I went exotic and used the white board that has foam in the middle. It works for me. I believe there have been other posts for photoboxes here as well. Why spend all the money when you can do it yourself?
  13. So what are the 20 worst vehicles? I saw only 4 listed.
  14. Howard - have at it. I don't copyright anything. Charlie8575 - Carney Plastics has a large variety of display cases and they are very nice. Several other manufacturers have the small, one car cases. Hobby Lobby carries them as well as several mail order places. Since I had the oak, the cases I made were under $6.00 each.
  15. Seems high for an '05 Nick. Down here dealers are almost giving vehicles away. Low prices and 0% financing for 72 months. Dad could probably get brand new for a better price than used. Good luck either way. Off the computer to go make dinner (grilled chicken, rice, green beans, salad) now. Eat, clean up, and go for 1.5 mile walk. Be back in the morning. Hope everyone has a great evening.
  16. In Chicago we called it a covered deck - here in FLA it's a lanai. Go figure.
  17. I'm planning to build Sixties Sam's street scene diorama plans on a shelf and enclose it with plexiglass. Keeps the dust off and then I don't have to worry so much about breaking something when I clean them.
  18. Railfreak, it's Model Car Wax - The Treatment. Best stuff there is for the final finish of your builds (opinions might vary). I get it at Megahobby - The Final Detail The Treatment Model Wax 1oz jar View Larger Image Retail Price: $4.25 Sale Price: $4.04 You Save: 5 % Item Number: TRE21201 Manufacturer: Detail Master Our Sku: TRE21201 Quantity: * Whole number only Add to a new shopping list Email this page to a friend 1 ounce jar. The Treatment pre-softened carnauba wax is the ultimate finish for all model cars, boats, planes etc. This wax works well on all painted and unfinished surfaces. Removes fine scratches, Eliminates smears and fingerprints, Deepens color on painted models, and Protects clear styrene from fogging.
  19. Sure do - and here's the pics; I had the oak bases laying around. The plexiglass is from Home Depot that I cut to size. I don't remember how much it cost but it's cheaper to make your own rather than buy the ready made plastic cases. I got the clear silcone caulk at the same time. And don't forget, if you shop at Home Depot or Lowe's, just prove you're a Veteran (DD214, military ID, retired ID, VA ID, etc.) and get a 10% discount - every day!!
  20. I haven't gone that exotic but have made display cases from and oak base with plexiglass walls & top and I used clear silicone caulk in the corners. We recently renovated our lanai and I have several cabinet doors that will get the plexiglass walls/top. My wife bought me a 24 or 27 car display case from Carney Plastics for Christmas and it's great. It's almost full and I'll need another one. What's nice about the Carney unit is that the mirror back has holes dilled in the back that just happen to be 16" on center - excellent for hanging the unit on a wall.
  21. I have a jar of that HWJapan ginseng stuff but haven't tried it yet. Have you tried it George53?
  22. Thank you for the help.
  23. We did some pretty wierd things with our bikes back in the 50s/60s. Used a 26" frame and rear wheel with a cut down fork with a 20" wheel in front. We were always going downhill. Then we replaced the handlebars with a car steering wheel. On another project, we took everything off a 26" frame, turned it upside down and put it back together. Somebodys Dad welded a tube so we could sit. The rider sat very high in the air. Of course, many of our rides featured the clothes pin and playing card for the rear wheel and many had ballons tied to the rear. I wish I had pics to share with you.
  24. The PE buckles came from Model Car Garage and the seatbelt material came from Scale Dreams. I believe the directions I have are from ProTech and from Detail Master. Still can't figure out how to glue/attach them though.
  25. Can anyone help me with seatbelts? I have the PE buckles, the material, and a couple sets (pictures) on instructions. But how do you put them together? CA, epoxy, Elmer's?
