Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
horsepower replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Mine was a '64 GT Slant six, torqueflite, I was working in a body shop and we straightened it out completely and since it had light gold interior that was flawless we painted it an Oldsmobile Bronze Firemist. When it spun a rod bearing I bought a low mile motor and replaced every gasket and seal and matched all the ports and put in a marine grind cam from Moon equipped. The final and close to most expensive was a set of 13" Ansen Sprint aluminum wheels, the only way to get them in the thirteen inch diameter and with the tiny five on four inch bolt circle Dart pattern was from Ansen directly and they were midget wheels drilled with the dart pattern, the one really nice thing was they were a solid one inch thick center section where it had the bolt circle drilled. But that was also the cause of a constant maintenance item, since the centers were solid you had to retorque the lug nuts once a week or they would work loose, and if you didn't use the torque wrench you could overtighten one and it would snap the studs on a regular basis if you did because they wouldn't have any give or stretch left and the wheels didn't have a "coin" effect around the lug holes. With an 18 inch glass pack two inch exhaust and the lumpy idle it was a pretty good boulevard cruiser, and I could drop the nose right down on the weeds with very little work. I would put a four by four right under the frame behind the front wheels and lower it down until it just touched, by the time I put me and my girlfriend in it would settle down to just above the legal California limit. (Nothing can be below the bottom diameter of the wheels) and with the little thirteen inch wheels that was pretty low. -

Well.....maybe if it was a '64 Dart GT slant six version it'd be worth it. ?? -

This is a Japanese seller and states that the kits are in Japan and will be shipped from there. Checking his other auctions you'll notice that this isn't someone trying to capitalize on the shortage of these kits, it's just life as normal for him as all of his auctions are in the same price range as far as starting prices go. -
I take it you haven't seen the new 2016 Camaro kits, or read any of the reviews or threads about it.

After doing a little checking I was informed by a reputable industry source that the tools were indeed damaged. But are already in the process of being repaired. The tooling will be repaired in a few weeks and new shipments of both kits will resume as normal. But I will be surprised if we see the new kits on the shelves before the New Year, if you have to get one for a gift search around I'm sure that someone with multiple kits would sell you one for a reasonable price, or for a coupon redeemable for a replacement kit from a local shop. After all we're all just trying to make the hobby fun for each other. I'd be willing to let one go if I hadn't already started on the one of each I have. -

After checking the on line store, there are several kits that I know that are still available through regular distribution outlets that are listed as discontinued through the on line outlet. You might also note that the on line store isn't a direct Revell outlet, it's also odd that the coupe isn't even listed there. Not going to run around screaming the sky is falling now that it isn't really clear what's up. Maybe someone from the know at Revell will ease into the conversation and shed a little light on the subject before people start asking ridiculous $50- $100 prices on the auction sites for what is rumoured to be a no longer available kit. -

Let's hope that this isn't like what happened with Franklin Mint and their die cast molds. It would be a shame to lose this series altogether, but if it WAS damaged/destroyed by a disgruntled company, it would be just about the end of it if the CAD files were also destroyed, or "lost". But it might be a good reason for bringing the production back to the U.S. I don't think that any domestic company would result to any childish piracy stunts like that. -
Unfortunately I don't see anything on the list I don't already have unopened multiples of that interests me. Still find it strange that Round 2 is releasing Lindbergh kits under the AMT label. Maybe just getting back for all the '34 Ford pickup kits Lindbergh turned out,.? BUT, it would be nice if they released the Starliner with ALL of the parts and pieces as a 2 in 1 kit this time. It might just result in selling more kits overall than just a stock or restomod would.

Not being in the know, but just the fact that there are still unused parts on the common trees tells us that there are further releases already in the works for the series. And as already stated that this series is one of the more successful releases of the past couple of years I'd be willing to bet that if there is any validity at all to the story that the powers that be already have a new tool in the works to replace the damaged one. And who knows, maybe it'll be a good thing, give them a chance to remodel or add another more correct firewall and just maybe it might push up the release of the next variation up a little bit and we'll have something else to drool over. But then maybe, just maybe, this is a result of the old axiom "if you don't hear a good rumour by 10:00 a.m., start one". -
those F&F kit were released just recently and should be on your hobby shop shelves. I was in one of ours yesterday and they had multiples of most of them, in fact the Honda si.coupe and the Integra type R are still on the list of current kits.
-
If they make them available as separate parts, or you can find someone who is putting different tires and wheels on their build, the tires from the Moebius Ford pickup kits would be perfect.
-
Did you edit out the parts tree with the axle housings on it? I could swear I saw them, but when I went back up to look at them they were gone. Am I imagining things......again?
-
Great start, you could use AMT injector tubes on the drivers side and the other side the T headers for a faux Offy powered T.

WoooooHoooo! How About a '66 SUBURBAN !?!?!!!

I think it's the missing slider part in the rear quarter windows that might be the difference, but I tend to like the real version over the CGI one. -
Fantastic! (followed by the clatter of the Mic hitting the floor)

out of curiosity, did you see what the real Janis Joplin Porsche sold for just recently? My entire family could retire quite comfortably on the $11,000,000 that it brought at Auction. Maybe you should contact Sothebys, maybe the new owner would spend a couple of hundred thousand for a nice model of his new car ??

they can complain about that Mustang kit all they want but I think THAT'S the way Ford should have built it in the first place. That mile deep black doesn't hurt a bit either, nice job on a tough color.

makes me feel like a high school sophomore again. Our neighbor had one like that in the same yellow, 350 horsepower 327, 4speed, posi-trac, with 4:11 gears. It was the most feared little Nova around, and ate up quite a few big block Impalas and Z-28 Camaro's.

Judging by looking at a blown up picture of the ad picture, it will have the standard doors on the passenger side, and the dual "barn door" style rear doors. That's kind of a toss up, the commercial truck builders will probably like that version, us street rod builders would probably rather have the station wagon type rear doors with a lift up window and a tailgate. But we can easily just fill in the door lines and open up the two windows into one full width one that we can use the pickup rear window on. -
Aaa! You're just being cruel with a tease like that. Now us curious types won't be able to get a real good night's sleep until you give us at least one or two more hints 'bout what's in store for us who grew up bulding AMT kits, well let's not say grew up. BUT we did get older.

Well, looks like my Christmas fund and tax returns for next year are well on their way to getting spent. -
You can get REALLY close cutting both kits along the top just below the drip rail along the door gap and follow the cut down the door gap at the back of the doors too, then use the '60 pickup front clip and the '66 'burban rear parts.
-
the box art on the Model King release WAS the kit, they used a built model to do the box art, that was common practice for the Model King kits, no surprises about what was in the box that way.

I don't know if you are up on what's cool in the street world, but suburbans are quite popular with the street rod guys too, and I bet that I've seen 50 two wheel drive suburbans to every four wheel drive version, in fact when I worked in the logging woods in the late '60s all of our new "crummies" (chev Suburbans) were two wheel drive ones. So I think that in terms of what would sell the most kits to the general public I'd bet on the two wheel drive version.
