It's easier to just put a good sized drop of black fingernail polish on the lense and forget about it (thanks to the Goth Girls for the high solids black polish).

Hmm, and I always thought the cars came from Detroit.. But I guess there could be exceptions. How does a particular state government become responsible for the failure of all three manufacturers to produce a reliable automobile? And don't say he was responsible for California's smog control laws, because when I bought my first of many Ford Pinto's in '72 the dealers were already talking about the stiffer restrictions that were going to be required in '76, and the first 2.3 motors in '74 were such a disgrace that I couldn't believe how gutless they were and when it started going south with less than 30k on the odometer I gave it away to some poor soul for just taking over the payments, and just a little while later got a recall notice from Ford saying that due to a design flaw in the rods (they didn't have a cylinder wall oiling hole in the rod for spraying oil on the cylinder walls) they were rebuilding EVERY 2.3 produced in '74. They were known to have been worn out by 48,000 miles, but when mine was using a quart an a half of oil between oil changes the dealer tried to tell me it was normal for four cylinder engines to do that since they worked harder. I asked him "then why doesn't my '71 Pinto with a 2000 cc motor use ANY oil between changes"? He suddenly had to answer a ringing telephone. And the dealers name wasn't Brown either.

I'd like a non R/T version released, with the option of building a run of the mill Charger with a 383 torqueflite, deluxe 14" wheelcovers, and would it be to much to ask for a standard production grille without that R/T emblem? And please don't issue whatever the next release is with those door bubbles molded on the body. That will just kill it for those of us who don't want to build a factory hot rod. Until then I'm keeping my hopes up.

Charlie, they're not supposed to have any leg room in the back seat, neither does the Mustang, and I haven't had a chance to get in the Challenger yet. The back seats aren't designed to actually be sat in, remember these cars are supposed to make us remember our formative years when we NEVER used a back seat for sitting in, even the rare occasions when we did WATCH a drive in movie from there we pushed the front seats as far forward as possible and tipped the seat backs forward to rest our feet on, and never ever did we offer to drag anyone along to sit in the back who was taller than 5'2" under the penalty of not looking cool with a car load of dudes, or heaven forbid an actual adult. As to visibility, and some people complain about looking squashed. Just think of it as Chevrolet already chopped the top FOR you, and I didn't have a really bad problem with visibility, because I don't bother to try and look behind me, that's what rear view cameras are for, and at around 5'8" I don't have to scrunch down to look up. But seriously the big problem with almost all new cars is the side impact requirements that the feds have put on the manufacturers, they have to make the body sides so high to get adequate side impact protection that it makes the roof look like it's been chopped about 4 inches, all of the sleeker cars are fighting the slit sized side window problems, but the cars that are still attempting to look like they have separate quarter windows are worse because they can't hide the appearance with body trim around the opening that gives the illusion of the old two door hardtop with the windows down.

When did color fall out of favor?
horsepower replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
it's strange, colors seem to be different trends depending on area you live in, in our area the two most prominent colors are Plum Crazy and Hemi Orange, (could be Torrid Red) but it's bright! And almost every one I've seen has had solid black interior. I guess MoPar buyers in our area are more sentimental, or older "kids" at heart that are trying to recover their youth, lucky I guess that unlike the Corvette crowd they still have their original equipment wife on board with them.?? -

I don't know about that, don't they resemble the above posted picture of all the new Challengers? And that pink Challenger IS a factory option, it's the modern version of Panther Pink, I don't remember the name but AMT released a pre-painted version of it. -

Its funny, but in late 2009 we were on a trip and had stopped for gas in the middle of the night and when I went to pay for it there was a sleek looking four door sedan parked in front of the mini mart part and I was thinking that's the sharpest looking car I've seen in a long time. Imagine my surprise when I walked up to it and discovered it was a new Kia Optima, now almost every manufacturer has a four door sedan that has almost the same identical silhouette, and until you can see the emblems or the grille it's almost impossible to tell them apart. I've owned a '11 model, and a '15, and now the new '17s are hitting the dealer's and they have copied the Toyota Camry nose it's going to be harder than ever to find a different style. The ironic thing is they offer two whites, one a tri-coat pearl that the Tamiya clear pearl matches almost perfect, but the two rarest colors are the dark cherry, and the bright blue metallic pearl. Mine were a bronze for the '11 that was harder than black to keep clean, and the extra cost snow white pearl because I like their pearl, and it wasn't impossible to keep looking good, but the interiors were both generic tan and black for the '11, and the generic super light gray and black for the '15 and were both almost impossible to keep looking good, the showed up if a fly landed on the light color. The sad thing is they had a really nice pearl orange in '14 but had dropped it when we decided to get a new car, they have some really good looking colors but they were ONLY available on the Soul, an ugly little toaster shaped box. -

But what you (and several other people) fail to see is there are people who are willing to pay these prices for something they want or need. You say that another person outbid you on the hood, the seller had nothing to do with the selling price, the person who actually buys these parts are the ones who set the selling price. What bothers me is some people are selling kits no longer in production (but were just months ago) as though they're collector pieces, and some have kits that you can still find on dealers shelves for $12 to $15 and have bumped the prices up to current $20+ prices. But again people are buying them, and often it's out of the country buyers who ARE getting a good deal, we're spoiled by swap meet and not having to pay exorbitant prices at the retail store. -
Oops forgot about that version of the LT-1.Guess I'm getting older than I thought? The "little" LS I was thinking about is the 4.8 that was introduced in 2000, in the pickups and suburbans. I'd love to put the bigger engine that's available in the family 4 by 4, it'd sure cut down some of those mountains to size.
-
I believe that you mean the LS series engines, they're all the way up to the super LS-9 the 427 cubic inch version with a supercharger that is available in both the Corvette and new Camaro body style. The wildest thing about the LS series is they are virtually identical in appearance from the little LS-1 that's in the neighborhood of 287 cubic inches all the way up to the LS-9 and its 427 cubic inches, talk about making it easy to hot rod your early LS powered Chevy pickup trucks. Just by the bigger engine and ecm from the Chevrolet dealership, bolt it in and try to keep from grinning like a Cheshire cat when spanking the new kid on the block with his bumble bee tuner.

The old Copperhead concept car snap kit had the best molded in color of any kit I've ever had I sanded down the mold lines and polished the plastic and many people were fooled into thinking that I had painted and polished the body with one of the smoothest finishes they'd seen. Oops guess I let the secret out now. Oh well.

I had two of those, one totally complete with a nice box and most of the parts still on the trees and nothing glued or painted, the second one had been built as a stock engine with the single four barrel but all the other parts were still there and like the fool I am let someone talk me out of them. Wish I had kept the optional parts from the built one, I think I could have found someone willing to mold and cast them in resin. or you can paint it in a rusty aged version and it would make a great "Titanic" type discovery car.

Done, thanks a lot, Del.

I'm building the Revell Cobra and while I was down for surgery someone who shall remain nameless cleaned up my work table and paint area and the exhaust pieces and hood were misplaced and I'm trying to get replacement parts, do you have plans for the ones in your donor kit? Thanks for your time Del.

1987 ASA GM V6 engine photos -- header question ?
horsepower replied to Goodwrench3's topic in WIP: NASCAR
He stated it in his answer, but remember the port spacing on the other side is opposite of the side shown, since they use the same casting for left and right cylinder heads. -

As a point of curiosity, has anyone seen or heard when that Camaro will be hitting the hobby shop shelves? Going to answer my own question. My local plastic pusher says according to his supplier that the AMT 2016 Camaro kits, (all three, one in plain white, one molded in color, and since the box art is a red car I'm assuming red. And one billed as a snap kit in silver) won't be shipped until the end of September, so I wonder about the August news bulletin. -

Didn't bother me that much either, in fact I found it kinda funny. But then unlike him I'm old enough to remember when the Cameo's were new trucks. Since I don't collect 1/18th scale die-cast either I won't be owning one either. -

All he did was read the packaging on that "Cameo" pickup, looks like whoever is in charge of proofreading the art work for the die cast packaging doesn't understand that "Chevrolet Cameo" isn't the name of the truck line, and that Cameo is a separate body style. Sad thing is most packaging now days seems to be done in the U.S. so we can't blame the Chinese for a lack of knowledge about U.S. automobile and truck names. -
the kits don't look quite like this it's based on Die cast molds and has big diameter wheels, and Lambo style front doors. They're Revell/Monogram kits and the series includes the Chrysler 300C, and the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 wagon. Unfortunately they're not available at this time unless you find them on the shelves of a local hobby shop. The only kit left in production is two different versions of the Dodge Charger SRT-8.

C'mon, tell the truth. You've evidently perfected both a way to time travel AND an operational shrink ray, and your traveling back to the past shrinking new cars and bringing them to our time to pass them off as scale models.??

the ones on the blown 392 we had in our blown alcohol flat bottom were the other way with the long side to the bottom, but they were M/T valve covers that may have been the difference.

On the television show Chasing Classic Cars Wayne sold a '32 Chrysler roadster that was a two tone red, and the two Testors reds would be a very close match with the body being the bright red and the fenders and body reveals being the dark (almost burgundy) red. I built a '32 Ford coupe years ago as a color suggestion for a customer I had in my body shop (we were restoring his 1930 Packard Town Car) and I was wanting to do it in a Maroon body with black fenders and the Testors Dark Red spray enamel was a perfect match for the maroon I wanted to use. Unfortunately for me he decided on a dark charcoal for the body and black fenders.

NEW REVELL '30: Zee frame!! Zee frame!! + 2nd mockup
horsepower replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
the blower out of the original AMT '57 Chevy (last released in the Boyd Coddington series) has the perfect supercharger for you, it's a pretty good rendition of the old ScOTT blowers that were so popular with early Hot Rodders.
