  1. got mine Friday, I think it's better than the review says it is, almost got the body ready for paint if it weren't for the sink marks on the front of the fenders, & the minor sinking at the back of the roof, & the ejector marks in the headliner it would be ready, they just took a little filler to fix. But now I have to wait for them to cure.
  2. Mirror? we don' need no stinkin' mirrors! You should never look back, there might be someone gainin' on ya!
  3. Really looking nice, the only thing I would do different, would be to raise the height of the rear wheel moldings to give it a little more tire clearance & the illusion of a section job. I like the semi gloss black look personally, after all a real hot rod is never finished.
  4. Looking good, & I too liked the original look. I hope your plans include the original teal/turquoise color.
  5. Engine is mostly completed...still needs oil filter painted, and I see the mold seams on the exhaust manifolds that I'm gonna try to sand a bit: Don't sweat the mold line on those manifolds, the factory cast iron ones have a prominent casting line on them, it would be different if they were the performance stainless tube ones.
  6. If you look closely, you can see the cast in ribs in the "shaker" scoop, this indeed the old "Cal Custom" scoop that you could buy at your local parts house, it was cast in raw aluminum, & just used machine screws to hold it to our hood this one is mounted backwards to look like Pontiac's Shaker scoop.
  7. You can go to the tips section on this forum, & if it isn't already on there, someone would be more than happy to answer you questions.
  8. I can see some nice customs from this one, can hardly wait. If I can just get the LHS guy to order a couple of these, which will be next to impossible if Horizon Hobbies doesn't carry them ( this place is R/C Airplane oriented, & it takes an act of congress to them to look at another wholesaler.) P.S. thanks for the replies on the Ecto kits.
  9. I think this one is a model, unless it's built with 1/4 inch plate.
  10. instead of building it as using the stock bolts, build it as an engine that has aftermarket studs & corresponding washers & nuts instead.
  11. Wasn't the Polar Lights Ecto 1 just a repop of AMTs kit?
  12. I was referring to the "discussions about whether or not this is an accurate representation of the '62 Impala or not. I consider us VERY lucky to get these great kits, I can remember when you got some balsa or basswood, 4 wheels & tires (airplane ones at that) & some pictures, & that was a model car kit, I guess we should remember what my maternal Grandma once told me, "If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all". Thanks for your reply, Del Streetman
  13. So, after all of the hoopla (that I personally could care less about) When is this supposed to hit the shelves?
  14. unless my old eyes are failing as fast as my swiss cheese memory, look for a German builder.
  15. To date the best 409 released was a Revell engine that was in the ORIGINAL release '55 Chevy it was not entirely stock, & unfortunately was not offered in this version again, not even in their engine kits of the era, the closest engine to this one is the current release (?) of the '54 Chevy sedan from Model King. it is a hot rod engine that you may want to look at for the little Austin.
  16. They really did a great job of hiding the mold lines on this one, so fine I almost missed the one across the trunk lid. ( but then I was looking out of the wrong eyeball for close up things)
  17. Real, there is a reflection on the side that wouldn't look that way if it were a model, (unless it's a bigger scale with doors that open).
  18. Is Etzel's Speed Classics still in production? I'm trying to find a set of their sixties style dirt front & rear tires to use on an Edmunds Super Modified. Thanks for all the answers I know I'll get. Del
  19. I still have two (one unopened, of the stock release, & three of the lowrider releases, only one of those opened so I don't think I will get this issue, unless there's something really new in it.
  20. I know it's just an idea, but you could use part of the roof from AMTs Blazer kit & that woul help clean up the top cuts a little, & that kit is currently still available.
  21. The first stick on chrome that I can remember is the IMC/Testors '48 Fords, it wasn't worth trying either.
  22. I have to vote real along with the others on this one, I don't think that any modeler would mis-align the side molding like it is on this one.
  23. It will be easy to do the '42 version, since the only real difference is that with the war going on there was no stainless available for the auto industry, & all of the "shiny" stuff was stamped in plain steel & painted in body color, (the original monochromatic paint?).
  24. something about the appearance of the front windshield through the side glass that looks model to me.
  25. Tie downs are on the rear because they were shipped by ocean going vessel, tied down at both ends for safety reasons.
