Just a suggestion, but with the work you have done to clean up the body, I think I'd remove the guards from the bumpers so the front & rear valances would be a little cleaner looking, & possibly even do the bumpers in the body color too.

Oh Goooody, the BFG's were the ones I was gonna ask about, will they be available as just the big & littles, or can we pick a set of just bigs, or just littles? You know how some of us race car types can be. -
Real or Model #143 FINISHED!
horsepower replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I really don't think that Harry would mess with the photo itself (the car & parts thereof) just to throw us off, so I'm going to say that this one is a model, or those are a real strange brand of tires on this baby. -
Nothing prettier than a candy red "Chevy".

Nice model, but I lived through the sixties once,& there are a few things I don't care to relive, & the psychedelic look is one, other than that it is a beeyootifull car. I really like the orange & white pearls though.

You might try using either some cherry, or walnut for wood, I've seen both available in the Miniatures section of dollhouse areas in some hobby/craft shops. Just go through the stuff to get the best grain.

Projection Headlights
horsepower replied to Bridgebuster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I found LED lights down to 3mm in size, in red, clear, & amber at the local model railroad supply store, I agree that these look very much like the newer projection lights that many cars have gone to, & they can be wired to operate easily using a watch type wafer battery. -
There used to be a group of cars that were just off I-5 in Northern CA. (just south of Mt. Shasta) that I "discovered" in the late '60s, actually the people of the area already knew of them, they were cars that had set in a wrecking yard that had been in the area since the early '30s until the mid sixties, (the actual site was taken over by the state to put in I 5 between Dunsmuir & Mt. Shasta). These cars were ones that the owner decided were no longer usable, & he hauled them out into the woods & dumped them the biggest stash I found was while riding around after church one easter with my best friend & his girl friend (now my wife) & my girl friend (I don't know what happened to her) the Union Pacific railroad had taken about twenty cars from the '30s & used them for erosion control in a dip along side the fire trail. We were cruising along about 20 or so when we passed this stack of "tin" & came to a sliding stop, the girls thought we were crazy climbing around in the rust pile still in out suits. The state has since gone in & cleared out all of this hazardous material, but not before we removed several intact bodies, a '33 Chevy 4 door sedan, a '34 Chevy master 5 window coupe, a '37 Willys sedan, & a '32 Dodge 4 door sedan, along with a complete Cadillac LaSalle front sheetmetal group. I think that the official that decide to go through the local area & clean up these should'a been hung!

I have seen several & I think he's slipping in pics of a 1:1 restoration & is trying to pass them off as a model.

New reissue of Monogram 56 Chevy Belair
horsepower replied to oldscool's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If the block has a provision for an oil filter on the left rear lower side, it is not a 265 as the 265's didn't have that yet. -
Real or Model #141 FINISHED!
horsepower replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I showed it to the dog & he didn't express his usual tendencies toward high end autos, so I'm gonna say model on this one. -
I guess this is just another thing that goes along with the "if you don't hear a rumor by 11:00 a.m. start one" rules where someone heard Ernie isn't there anymore & that he was released, (he was, after 53 years he's finally free) My favorite axiom to use in these conditions is"don't believe anything you hear, & only half of what you see".

change the engine, the lotus uses an old ford engine, the caterham uses either a ford or rover twin cam engine
-
Great news! I've seen a couple of these 1:1 versions customized, & they really look nice,(even though they sorta look like the venerable Merc') so a few purists will no doubt be inflamed when when they see why I want one. But the one I really want is the Chrysler, gotta have a few of those, I already see Magnum cross in the works (like the full size one).
-
On the 392 Chrysler "early" Hemi, there is enough room at the back of the blower to run the mag, we ran a blown 392 in a boat, (it was a 6-71 blower, with two 500 cfm Edelbrock competition carbs) & the kits that have the 392 engine usually have the same blower set up. on the 426 motor there is usually a drive provision that puts the mag at an angle from the left (passenger) side of the front cover.
-
really looking good but on a Hemi engine the plug boots are either down in the valve covers, or have a flat rubber seal at the valve cover neither one would have the boot sticking out of the valve cover over a 1/4 inch or so. (Just a bit of nit picking,no offense meant.)
-
to get rid of the "shinys" use some baking soda & a toothbrush, or a light wipe down with lacquer thinner.
-
If you do go with the rally wheels I like the wide versions found in the Revell '67 big block 'vette roadster.
-
Those "vintage" Americans would be perfect for the new '62 that Revell just released.
-
I'd go with the 19s, or a set of the Americans from the Revell '59 'Vette, or one of the other kits that share this set of contemporary big n littles.
-
There is a slight width difference, but it's easily overcome.
-
This could prove to be a problem as I read (could be in this thread) that the Revell version is noticeably wider than the AMT version
-
And nine inch Ford rear gears that these Mustangs were supposed to have, the nine inch was an option in the higher horsepower (and the Mach1 regardless of power)versions
-
I think this is just a reminder that models are like oats, there are cheaper choices out there, if you don't mind them being passed through the horse first.
