Looks awesome. These Moebius kits are great no matter how they are built.

No it's not built yet. Too many irons in the fire. It has nothing to do with the quality though.

Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?
jjsipes replied to echoxrayniner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Jimmy Flintstone makes a resin on. Here is a topic I started but sadly have gotten off of for various reasons. -
This is a model of a car ordered by Jack Ashley and driven by Ronnie Sox in 1961. As far as I can find out, this car was ordered and taken over to Ray Nichels to prep for racing. It went up for auction back in November 2013 and sold for $182,500. I took the Moebius body and worked on the window channels to get the windows to fit better after reading what Mr. Obessive had wrote up for tips on this kit. Filled a couple of low spots in the quarters around the trim and prepped body for primer and paint. I used Tamiya White Primer and ordered Pontiac Richelieu Blue from Scale Finishes, same paint code as Chevrolet Silver Blue Met. Srayed the body and cleared with Testors Ultra Gloss Clear. I used Testors Silver Blue Met and Nassau Blue Met from there Lacquer line of paints for the interior after I sprayed to white seat inserts with Tamiya White primer. I will go back and cover all the interior with Tamiya Semi-Gloss clear. I need to come up with some reference pictures of the engine yet. I appears that the car had dual carbs and not the triple carb set-up on it but need to see if I can clarify that.

I found a set of Keystone Mags out of a 67 Sox & Martin Gtx nit but, they were to large of a diameter for the slicks out of the Melrose Missile. Dug some more and found a set of Keystones out of the old 51 Chevy Bel Air kit that will work just fine I believe. Need to find approriate tires for the front now. -

I agree. Great man and great to talk with. The same with wife Diane, great to talk with as well. -
I just seen where Round 2 is bringing out another Dodge A-100 wheelstander called Dodge Fever. Says availible now but never seen anything about it before. I know it will just be the old Little Red Wagon kit, which is a great, with new decals. Has anyone seen it yet on the shelves? http://round2corp.com/product/125-dodge-fever-wheel-stander/ Also they are bringing the Color Me Gone 64 Dodge back. No info on release of this kit. http://round2corp.com/product/color-me-gone-1964-dodge-300-superstock/ With the release (finally) of the 64 Lawman Plymouth and these other Dodges, It's a great time for us Dodge drag racing fans.

jjsipes replied to jjsipes's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Yeah. I already have a few of Ronnie's cars in my collection and a few more to build after these. I have started the Black 1962 Impala, both 63 Impalas that he drove. I have started an Omni as well. The 1967 GTX I'm currently working on will be the 440 car, 1970 Cuda. I have already built his 1962 Bel Air, 2 versions of the 1964 Comet, 1967 Hemi GTX, the old Johan 1971 Cuda (which I want to rebuild), 1971 Duster. I have items to build the 1961 Pontiac, resin 1966 Baccaruda long and short nose, 68 Cudas, Johan Superbird, resin grille and hood for 1970 Duster, MPC Duster, MPC 1972 Cuda, Dakota ProStock Truck -

Got the body painted on this today as well as 3 others. -
Got Blue painted today on this and other Sox cars. What time taping all of them. Got clean up to do along taped line but not to bad.
-
Finally made some progresson this. Need to paint and install shocks, radiator hoses and touch up things on chassis and engine. Need to finish up trim work on interior. Quick mock up
-
This is a subject matter that somebody should bring a full detail kit out of. Would love to have one to build myself. Yours looks amazing. Love the color. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
-
I've stepped away from this build again temporally to get some other Sox cars ready for paint to paint them at the same time. See one of the other builds here.

Since I was getting my 1965 Altered ready for paint and since I'm tired of waiting on Moebius so I just purchased one of there 1965 Belvedere II kits. I figured since I was going to be airbrushing the blue on a couple of Sox cars, why not start another one and then I wouldn't have to dirty the airbrush more than once. Reference picture. I have another picture as well that I need to find. Not too mention Slixx just brought back there decals to include the Super Stock car as well as the AWB. I referenced the Melrose Missile package rear tray piece and made my own. Looks the part. I would have taken the piece out of the Missile kit but, I plan on building that soon. I was able to purchase some parts on Ebay for the headers out of the Missile kit. The only complaint I have with the body is the lack of depth of the anel lines. Had to rescribe them and need to clean up a few areas before paint.
-
After 2 years, let the painting commence. I just finished reading the new Sox & Martin book that has been released and it got me to thinking about this and others I have to build.
-
I was able to find this article. It starts out with the short car and then progresses into the long nose car. Thought I would share for anyone interested. Looks like the frame is square tube, like the resin kit has. http://www.moparmax.com/columns/magnante/vii_4-1.html

I just received my resin body from Speed City Resin and have started to do research for this car. Having some trouble locating info on chassis. This is about time that they started using tube chassis' and wondering if this car had a full tube chassis? Does anyone have any reference they are willing to share. I have a bunch of builds started and I won't be geting to this one for a little while. I have some pictures I found online but no clear underhood shots of chassis. Here's the Speed City Resin Kit The chassis it comes with.

One question though, did the drag racer really use these type headers? Never really seen to much myself on this but I know Nascar teams did.
