  1. One of my little contract photo jobs paid me a bit extra than I had planned on, so I bought myself an early birthday present. http://www.ebay.com/itm/321469127232 Does anyone have an AMT 1962 Buick Electra they don't plan to use the engine in? The engines are the same ones from what I can tell. Charlie Larkin
  2. Very nice, Mike. Shaping up well. Charlie Larkin
  3. VERY nice work, Tom. Charlie Larkin
  4. Nice recovery, now finish 'er up and get up here for NNL-East- professional cars are the sub-theme next year. Charlie Larkin
  5. I found out just moments before The Rockford Files started on MeTV. A great actor and from most accounts, a nice guy. Two characteristics very short in Hollyweird now. Charlie Larkin
  6. Having been there very recently myself, John, I understand exactly what you're going through, and it's painful beyond description. Hoping you find some measure of peace with the situation and that you remember to hold on to the good memories of what sounds like a good man. Charlie Larkin
  7. Those appear to the the "Billy" bookshelves, and they're not cheap, but they're very good products. The glass doors are an option. Lighthing can be added with LED strips or individual spots. And yes, I must agree, that's a nice room. Charlie Larkin
  8. Very nice. If one of these jobs happens, DRAG is getting a sizable order from me. Charlie Larkin
  9. Very nicely done, Stephen. Do you have any more in-progress pictures?C Charlie Larkin
  10. "Gratuitous Burnouts" At least the video title is being honest. And yes, it does sound good. I do like the freshening for the '15s. If the jobs I'm chasing come through, I might actually go for one of those, probably a V6 car for price reasons, although those are still supposed to be quite nice. Charlie Larkin
  11. Two more interesting projects coming, I see. Charlie Larkin
  12. Love it! Very creative. Charlie Larkin
  13. 1500 different automobile manufacturers in this country over the years? That's rather amazing. I'm assuming this counts the early-20th Century makes that produced maybe one or two examples, registered manufacturers that never produced anything, etc., or is it then that the number goes higher? Charlie Larkin
  14. Fantastic, Doug. Perfect, simple, well-done execution. Charlie Larkin
  15. That looks spectacular, Brad. If the job I had an interview for (or one of the eight or nine I have active applications with) happens, I will be taking a personal day or two to come out and see this next April, along with all the other miniature wonders of the southwest. Charlie Larkin
  16. I kinda like Harry's idea of the white accents. Remember, Steve, "dealer two-tones" did exist. According to the dealer album the Imperial Club has posted, there was a mauve interior available, along with white/black. You could also get a medium-light gray. Charlie Larkin
  17. Speaking as a teacher, I really do wish more parents would take such an active role with their kids. A lot of problems would magically disappear. Great job, both of you. Charlie Larkin
  18. Very nice work on that. Is the backdrop picture included or did you supply that one yourself? Charlie Larkin
  19. Another re-run? No biggie, I like this show. Charlie Larkin
  20. The 1961-'63 and '64-'66 Thunderbirds are my favorites of the line. You did another fine job on this. Next time you want to throw away BFG WWWs in your AMT kits, I have a good home for them, and will happily cover your postage. Charlie Larkin
  21. I got a bit frantic at NNL looking for a camera lens, so I didn't have a chance to see your 'Cuda, John. Are you considering bringing it to LIARS? Nice pictures. I wonder if I could a copy of the pictures of my PT from Tom? Charlie Larkin
  22. My dad's a huge Brubeck fan. I first heard Take Five when I was 12, and loved it ever since. Then again, I was thoroughly immersed in classical and big-band, the Great American Song Book, blues, tin-pan alley and ragtime. And Middle Eastern music. Much to the dismay of my friends, I actually almost never listened to what was then contemporary music. Oh, wait...still don't, really, save for country and the occasional pop or rock song that comes along that I really like. Start your step-son off with more Brubeck. Find a copy of "Dave Digs Disney"- GREAT album, and one he'll probably enjoy. Another very good record, but rare, is Summit Sessions. It showcases a wide variety of jazz/jazz-influenced music from musicians around the world, also a Brubeck Album. Also, find some Louis Armstong (almost every kid likes Louie,) some big band (Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman are good picks for kids, along with Woody Herman and Buddy Rich.) If your town or a nearby city has a decent symphony, get him there. Do whatever you must to make him understand that music that is timeless will endure far beyond the vapid, repulsive, putrid trash he thinks is cool. Charlie Larkin
  23. Well, the whole last week irked me. That's why you haven't seen me around. The anti-virus on my computer went completely haywire and shut me off from the Internet. I had to blow it off and reinstall me. Only took me a week to figure that out... Let's see, what else? I had a little GOOD news: I finally had an interview for a permanent teaching job that went pretty well. That was on Thursday. However, Wednesday night, my mother's car, which I was going to take, because I had belts showing through on my front tires and it was a long trip. My mom's car, even though it has 185,000 miles on it, is in pretty decent shape, so I was going to take that. Dad and I stopped on the way home from picking him up to get something, and we started to smell coolant. We saw a Ford Winstar going by, and figured the Essex V6 was on its way out, and then, Dad looked under her car. The three-week-old radiator sprung a massive leak. We had to have the car AAA'd back to the mechanic from Waltham to Clinton (about thirty miles) and that left us stranded there. We crashed at my mother's apartment and I had to rent a car to get to Springfield (WMass from Greater Boston,) and the rental car agency couldn't get a car, etc., etc. All told, I ended up an hour late for my interview (compounded by having to stop at my house and change into something presentable and several traffic issues caused by construction.) As it turned out, it wasn't that big a deal- the administrators that were interviewing me had so many problems with the summer school kids that they were delayed nearly forty-five minutes after my arrival! Very nice people and definitely a school I could see myself working at fairly happily. However, the cruelest blow came Saturday morning, just as I had gotten up. I was getting ready to get a pair of tires when my cousin Greg called. A very close friend of ours died Friday night- under what we are politely terming "suspicious" circumstances, possibly involving drugs (which Sam would never, ever touch), and almost certainly involving his girlfriend (who has had problems with H and can't quite kick it,) in some capacity. The shock and blow has been breath-taking, to say the least. Personally, I'm not prepared to call it "homicide," but right now, we're looking at what we think is a very strong case for manslaughter. Wayne, Danno- any thoughts on what will be happening? We're all having a problem getting a good read on the situation. We know the police are doing some kind of an investigation, but exactly what isn't clear. I'm guessing that after collection of evidence and statements, they'll probably sift through the information and determine whether charges will be filed based on the information they can find. The only side-benefit is that several friends of mine who had stopped talking over some very foolish things over the last few years, finally called a truce and are back on speaking terms. But, this is still too high a price to pay for that. Yeah....it's been a bad week. Charlie Larkin
  24. Does descendant of people from the Maritime Provinces count? Charlie Larkin
  25. Simple build.....yeah, right. Well, for you it is, I suppose! Actually, those mods aren't too tough. I have one of those kits, and I'll probably do some of that. For curiosity's sake, Bill, what thickness plastic did you use for spacers on those louvers? I didn't see it listed. And yes, MEK is rather potent. I would suggest- STRONGLY- that you use a fan blowing air away from you (and not in any way towards you) if you use it to help control the fumes, or work next to an open window. If you can get a fan and window, even better. If that's not possible, consider wearing a painter's mask to control fume inhalation. I'll stick with Testors and Tamiya for my cement. I use both, depends on what I want to do. Charlie Larkin
