charlie8575 replied to Rdkingjay's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice. Where did you get the MSP decals? Charlie Larkin -
Assuming they do a set, looks like it'll be MCG photo-etch to the rescue. Charlie Larkin

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
charlie8575 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Dave, do you have an item number assigned yet? I'm working at one of our local shops and I want to make sure we get 2 or 3 of these on the shelf ASAP. Charlie Larkin -
I wonder if that taillight panel, which doesn't have the R/T badge on it, means we're getting a standard-trim, 318-powered car? That would certainly be different for a model, and if that LA is good, i'll buy a whole bunch of these just for the engine/transmission. My dad had a '68 new, with a 318. He loved it. The aerodynamics on this car were so good, he regularly got 25-27 at 60, and even with the 318, it would get up to 120, and there was still rod on the loud pedal. He was living in Connecticut at the time, and one of his co-workers needed to go back up to Lawrence, Ma. when his son took very, very ill. They were down on the Connecticut shoreline in Startford, making this about a 200-mile run. His co-worker's ratty old Chevy wasn't going to make it up and back, so Dad let him use his Charger, and asked him to return it with some gas. Later that evening, the other guy, Pete, I think his name was, came back. Dad: That was quick. Everything okay? Pete: Yeah, he'll be allright, but in the hospital for a few days. I didn't think that Charger would move that quickly. Dad: Oh? So, I'm curious...how fast does it go? Pete: Roy, trust me, you don't want to know. Charlie Larkin

You did a very good job with this, Riley. I'm curious, as I didn't see any mention of it- what was the reaction of the spectators to your work? Charlie Larkin

Harvard Forest Dioramas in Petersham, Mass.
charlie8575 replied to Brian Austin's topic in WIP: Dioramas
What a cool little Indian motorcycle; that's one I would love to see in 1/25. Those dioramas are gorgeous. I have friends out that way, sometime, I'm going to have to make a little extra time to go poke through the museum. Charlie Larkin -
The tooling looks good. Once the stock version with the irreligious (i.e., un-holey) hood and back seat come out, I'm in. I always liked the '70s. A non-R/T grille would be nice. I'm not a good enough hacker to correct that. Maybe one of the resin-casters can. I'd build a 318 car, myself. Charlie Larkin

Container for Soaking in Super Clean
charlie8575 replied to Warren D's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's what I use, too. The Zip-Loc/Gladware/store brand equivalent. I find the ones that are about shoebox size are good for the bodies; I use a couple of the 2-cup containers with screw-on lids for small parts. Charlie Larkin -
What Richard said. I absolutely agree with Jesse in principle, but, if it'll move plastic and I can still make a non-molested car out of it, I can work with it. Chariie Larkin

I put maps back in my car. I really like them better. I use my brain-damaged phone (defective) quite a bit, but I don't think it's quite 88 times/day, although I do a little side-work that requires use of it, and when it does, my nose is buried in it (said side-work is why I got the thing.) I use Google Maps to locate things, especially if I have to plan travel for the side-job; I only very rarely use it to actually navigate, largely because I'm very familiar with my little corner of the world. I do use Google Maps to go to NNL-East, because the roads around there are completely crazy, and it's the only way I can find my way around, because I have no town road atlases for northern NJ. I also use it when I'm going to NYC because I get lost there very easily, and all the maps in the world couldn't help me. Beyond that, I'll use it in completely unfamiliar territory for which I have no good local maps to use in the car. I use my phone at home more, and lately, with all these crazy spoof/fruad/political calls (sometimes, it's 3 calls in 1,) and I like having a phone in the house. No tattoos here, either. That's a very cool idea, Mark. This kit looks superb. I'll be buying one to support the effort. I actually tried one of these on, and the visibility is terrible, I agree. Once settled in, it's reasonably comfortable,. I just keep thinking to the first Camaro...based on the Nova so you could actually fit in it and have seats for 4-5 people. In the '16, if the front seat is all the way back, it literally stops at the back seat- making leg-room 0. Charlie Larkin

When did color fall out of favor?
charlie8575 replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It works on Edsels when two-toned with white or charcoal. Charlie Larkin -
I've never heard of peas, gravy or curry with fish 'n chips? Interesting. At least in New England, we usually serve it with cole slaw. Charlie Larkin

Not at all. You see your family, no matter where they are, and that's what it's about. Unfortunately, I have to visit most of my family at the cemetery, but somehow, I think they know they're not forgotten about. Whether it's of benefit to anyone or not, besides me feeling a bit better about it, I don't know. Charlie Larkin

Fireball Modelworks!
charlie8575 replied to Southern Fried's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Unfortunately, I don't have anything immediately handy, but I can see if I can scare up something at one of the local junkyards. Dodge trucks and vans sold fairly well around here and most were 318-powered. If I can find something, would photos on all five visible surfaces be acceptable, with a visible ruler? I'll see if I can scare up a 2-bbl. intake, too. I would suspect any of the LA-block 4-bbls. would be a good starting point. Charlie Larkin -

Put Numpty there on that pogo stick on the Belt at rush hour. That'll be REAL good sport. Charlie Larkin -

Nope...BBD. I want to make 340s into 318s; different carb and the 2-bbl. intake. Charlie Larkin -
Lefse? Used as napkins? Rice-paper product? Charlie Larkin

charlie8575 replied to Southern Fried's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Have you considered doing a Carter BBD, I think it's called? The 2-bbl. Chrysler used on a lot of small-blocks. It'll make making 340s into 318s a lot easier. Charlie Larkin -
Rising price of our hobby
charlie8575 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, we have no loyalty card, per se. All we ask for is to see your club card. We simply verify and you get savings. No information other than you belong to a club. We hold the register receipt with your name and club so the discount is accounted for. We'll give you the slip from the credit card machine or a no-sale slip if cash/cheque, becasue that will be sequential. We only ask for e-Mail or your address if you want to be on our mailing list. If not, no big deal. We'll ask for your phone number (and driver's license information, and yes, we still get about a dozen cheques a month,) on cheques or if you order something so we can call you that it's in. We're a small store that doesn't use metadata or any of that, so anything you do give us is safe because we have no place to send it! I assure you that there is nothing sinister or invasive, and people from 9 to 95 (yes, we have a couple of customers that old,) take advantage of these plans. As to your statement regarding your personal finances, true enough. As to "emotion over logic," well, to me, it's completely illogical to spend more money than you have to- comes from being the son of a cheap Armenian and a cheap Scot. Charlie Larkin -
Revell Display at GTR NNL 9
charlie8575 replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As long as the hood on that Charger can be filled and the interior is relatively stock, I'm not too worried, I have a the rest of a '68 I can use to supply the stock parts. The Bronco looks really nice. Charlie Larkin -
Good food is good food, what can I say? I'm Armenian, along with a bunch of Irish that got chased out of Scotland after they were run out of Ireland for being Protestants (and, from family lore, real PITAs,) and then whatever ship-wrecked off the Maritimes. Portugese is one of my favorite foods, my ex is Jewish and I came to really enjoy a lot her cooking, and really do miss her kugel. That was delicious. Culinary achievement, thankfully, knows no ethnic boundaries. Oh those look good. Joe, part of heading down is I actually met a nice Armenian girl that lives in Midwood- decided to go on a date of sorts, see what happens. Any recommendations over that end of Brooklyn? Or is at least easy to get to by train? I'll probably be crashing at my buddy's place in Red Hook. And yes, when I was there for LIARS show in November, in addition to bringing home a $95 parking ticket (ARRGH!,) I brought home a bunch of bagels, and they are different, that's for sure. Lighter, it seems, not quite as dense, but not airy. Got those at Line Bagel near the F-Line stop somewhere over on something Hill, which Rob described to me as an old Italian neighborhood near him. Is this bifana (the marinated pork steaks) or something different? Mmm...bifana. I lived in New Bedford, Ma. for about 3-1/2 years. The New Bedford-Fall River area has the largest concentration of Portugese-descended people in the world outside of Portugal. I absolutely fell in love with Portugese food. I'm not a huge seafood fan, but I really like paella. A lot of the people there came from Cape Verde, the Azores and Madeira, so they brought their food with them. Carne no Espeto (literally, "meat on a stick,") bifana, lingucia, chourico, and other stuff are all things I enjoy. I would very much like to go to Portugal sometime. I've never heard a bad thing about it. Charlie Larkin
