Tyrone Malone Super Boss
Force replied to truckabilly's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I went through all my reference pictures of the Super Boss and Bandag Bandit (and I have gathered a few over the years ) and I couldn't find any good pictures of this setup where you can see the whole thing...but it appears to be mounted only on the drivers side and it seems to be a later add on as it's not present on some pictures of the early Thermo King version. The Bandag Bandit does not have this setup. -
Okay, now I get it, thanks for the info...I agree with you, it would be nice to be able to get a correct dash to do all Revell and AMT K-100 Aerodyne's right.
-
I already have 2 of 'em.
-
There was a flyer for the 2nd and 3rd quarter posted on the Spotlight Hobbies board on Friday and it's also here http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/122284-revell-q2q3-flyer/. I don't know the difference between the dashes as I haven't researched the subject that deep, but after what I know the only difference between the Revell K-100 flat top and the Aerodyne is the roof section.

I just saw Revell plan to reissue the K-100 Aerodyne for the second or third quarter 2017. I hope they will fix the K-100 flat top "issues" with the cab and plating for this release.

Revell 1/25 Kenworth K-100 discontinued
Force replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I just got mine, the chrome plating is perfect but the cab is cracked, it's split from the passenger side windshield down to the grille opening. So it looks like it can be either or, and I just requested a replacement cab. I saw Revell will reissue the K-100 Aerodyne for the second or third quarter this year and I hope they fix the problems for that one. -
Nice start. If you can't find your E9 engine Auslowe does them in resin. I kind of like this one.

Malone Super Boss finished.....
Force replied to Dave Van's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The current owner of the Super Boss is Gary Ries from Hastings Minnesota, he doesn't have a website as far as I know but I suppose you mean the Tyrone Malone and the Bandag Diesel Racing Team Facebook site because I have seen the pictures there. This site together with a good Fotki album, both with lots of good reference pictures, and another Malone website are kept by a former employee of Malone's called Ken Harris who drove the Super Boss transporter Papa Truck in the last European Tour back in the late 80's and he still tries to keep the Tyrone Malone memory alive and is doing a good job of it. Except for the Super Boss Gary Ries also own the Papa Truck and the Hideout Truck transporters, the Defiance, the Hurricane, the Boss Truck Of America, the Smokey Bear Corvette and the Whale Truck, the Bandag Bandit was donated to Bandag and today it's at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop Museum, most of the other Malone trucks are still missing. Gary has taken some "artistic license" with the real Super Boss too as the paintjob isn't exactly as it was back in the day, and he has dropped the small front wheels and has changed all wheels to Alcoa's, probably to be able to get tires easier. -

Yes it's very nice. I have done research on the Tyrone Malone trucks for a long time so I notice these things...but as I said...i't a great looking build. -
I didn't mean to offend anyone, even if you know there are people that doesn't, so I just wanted to give out information to people who didn't know.

Very nice build indeed. The chassis is a bit too dark tho', in all my reference pictures for this truck the chassis on the Super Boss is light blue, pretty much like the light blue stripes on the decal sheet. -
According to my references Kenworth stopped with white engines 1975 but I have seen white engines in KW trucks after that. Peterbilt had white engines up to 1984 but can be found in trucks after that too. I have also seen engine manufacturers colors in older Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks, so there are exceptions from the rules. I believe the NTC 475 came around 1978-79 and was in production until about 1985-86ish

Well a 302 Boss doesn't wake up until those RPM's due to the huge intake runners and valves in the Boss heads. The stock camshaft in the street car Boss engines was too lame and needed to be swapped for a hotter one that allow higher RPM's so the engines could perform as they were capable to, a good tuned 302 Boss with the right content could be revved up to 8-9000 or even higher. The rated HP for the street 302 Boss was 290 hp at 5800 rpm and the rev limiter was set at 6250 rpm, but the engine was capable of a lot more as the stock connecting rods were good up to around 8000 without breaking, and I saw a dyno result on a stock 302 Boss where it hit 372 hp at 6800 RPM.

Very Nice Chris!! -
Tom Carter is good, I used to shop from him frequently for several years back when he had Hobby Heaven, he stopped selling new kits about the time when Revell was sold to Hobbico (about 2007) and Tom renamed his company Spotlight Hobbies, but since a couple of years he has started selling new kits again. At the time when Tom stopped selling new kits I asked him where to go for my purchases and he recommended another mail order company and I have bought from them since then...I have no hard feelings against Tom and wouldn't hesitate dealing with him again.

I don't care much if the model is 24 times or 25 times smaller than the real car, the difference isn't that bad if the parts aren't oversized and if the object I want to build only is in 1:24th scale I buy it. In metric you have millimeter, centimeter, decimeter, meter and kilometer and everything is divisible with 10, 100, 1000 and so forth so it's easy to divide and multiply to whatever measure you want, and the scale doesn't matter much when you use the metric system. As I'm a construction worker I work with scales every day, mostly 1:10 to 1:500 scale, so I'm quite used to it.

Well as long as nobody can prove otherwise with color photos from the time you can use whatever color you like...who knows...the mechanic who overhauled and serviced the engine could have painted it another color ...but the Ford engines from that era were black from the factory. Examples on non factory colors in race cars are the Sox & Martin team, their mechanic Jake King painted the Mopar engines he built Ford engine blue, Smokey Yunick painted engines in many of his cars gold, Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins often painted the engine block and oil pans on his Chevy engines black, Richard Petty often had blue Mopar Hemi's in his #43 car and so on. On the other hand...you don't see much of the heads and block of the 427 Hi-Riser in the engine bay under the 6 inch intake hoses, aluminum intake box, aluminum intake and chrome valve covers.

Peterbilt Fire truck question
Force replied to truckabilly's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Both the Allison transmission and shift tower are in the Tyrone Malone Super Boss and Papa Truck kits. -
It was not only the HiPo engines that were black, all Ford passenger car engines were black from 1959-65, the higher output engines had gold, chrome or aluminum valve covers and air cleaners. The other engines were as I mentioned also black and had different colored valve covers and air cleaners depending on engine size and version, silver, red, blue, yellow were colors used.

Looks great!! -
And the rear seat has fabric upholstery. and I have waited for someone to do the pattern as a decal since the kits first came out as it's not that easy to replicate with paint...but nothing yet.
