Mopar A series 318 "Poly" V8
Force replied to Atmobil's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well the Hemi based Poly Head engines were not from the "A" family, they were Hemi blocks with single rocker shaft polysferic heads to make them cheaper than the Hemi's. The Chrysler Spitfire (1955-58) 301-331-354 cu in were based on the Low Deck 331-354 Hemi, there were no poly-head version of the later Raised Deck 392 Hemi as you said. The Dodge Red Ram (1955-56) 241-259-270-315-325 cu in were based on the 241-325 Hemi, they did Poly Head engines both of the Low Deck 241-270 and the raised deck 315-325. The Plymouth Hyfire (1955-56) 241-259 cu in were also based on the Dodge 241-270 Low Deck Hemi's, No Poly Head engines were based on the DeSoto 276-291-330-341-345 cu in Hemi, the few DeSoto's with Poly Head engines had Dodge Hemi based engines. The Polysferical Head (1956-67) 277-301-303-313-318-326 cu in was the "A" family engine and shares no parts with the older Poly Head and Hemi engines and was replaced with the "LA" and "B/RB" allthough they were manufactured simultaneously for a while. -
2016 Builds...Let's See 'Em....

Here is your picture Alan. -
Most likely, the Papa Truck is due for release in early January. The wheels in the kit are for the Papa Truck incorrect 10 hole tubeless Alcoa's, the real truck had Truck Mate 5-hole chromed split wheels and later 2-hole chromed tubeless Budds. The rear suspension is also incorrect for the Papa Truck, the kit has the 8-bag KW Air Glide100 and the real truck had KW Torsion Bar suspension.

My Chrysler A 318 poly head engine 3d printed at home
Force replied to my66s55's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I believe the engine in the old AMT 29 Roadster is a bit too large for a Dodge Hemi, same as the engine in the more recent AMT Ala Kart kit is slightly too small for a Dodge Hemi. if the difference between the real engines is 2 inches it's 2 mm in 1:25th scale, and 3 inches is 3 mm in 1:25th scale so it's quite noticable. A Dodge Hemi in real life is a lot smaller physically than a 392 Hemi wich is what's in the AMT 57 Chrysler 300C (57 was the first year for the raised deck 392), so I wouldn't use the Chrysler 392 Hemi to replicate a Dodge Hemi based Poly Head engine as it will be too large. The Dodge Hemi's have the smallest bore spacing (center to center of the cylinders) of any hemi engine at 4.1875" and they do not share any major dimensions or components with the larger Chrysler and DeSoto hemi engines. The Chrysler Hemi has 4.5625" bore spacing so it's 0.375" difference in bore spacing between the Chrysler and the Dodge, there wasn't any Poly Head based on the DeSoto Hemi so they are not relevant in this case. The Dodge Hemi has 9.29" deck height for the low deck 241-270 and 10.38" for the raised deck 315-325 and Chrysler has 10.32" for the low deck 331-354 and 10.87" for the raised deck 392, it's nearly ½ an inch difference in deck height between the raised deck Dodge and the raised deck Chrysler, and over 1 ½" difference between the low deck Dodge and the raised deck 392 Chrysler. There were no Poly Head engine based on the raised deck 392 either, just the low deck 331-354 blocks, Dodge on the other hand had Poly Head engines based on both the low deck and raised deck blocks from 1955 to 58 used both in Dodge, Plymouth and DeSoto cars. -
Interior upholstery pattern decals
Force replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have waited for correct upholstery pattern decals for the 64 Ford Thunderbolt rear seat since that kit first came out so I can do it right...all Thunderbolt's built had the same Medium Beige Poly interior with vinyl Bostrom seats in front and the rear seat was a standard Fairlane fabric seat with a pattern that's very difficult to do with paint only...but nothing yet. If anything like this would come out I would buy several sheets. There are also lots of other patterns for cars that are difficult to do with paint only, so in my opinion we need more patterns. -
My Chrysler A 318 poly head engine 3d printed at home
Force replied to my66s55's topic in WIP: Model Cars
One thing with the older Poly Head engines before the A family. The 1955-58 Chrysler Spitfire was based on their 331-354 Hemi, no Poly Head engine with the 392 block. The 1955-56 Dodge Red Ram and the 1955-56 Plymouth Hyfire was based on the much smaller Dodge 241-325 Hemi, so if you want to do a correct Dodge or Plymouth Poly Head engine you can't base it on the Chrysler block as the Dodge Hemis are quite a lot smaller than the Chrysler's. A Dodge Hemi can be found in the Ala Kart kits. DeSoto also had a Poly engine in 1957 but it was also based on the Dodge, so no Poly head engine based on the DeSoto Hemi -
I bought a bunch of Josephs very nice carburetors a while ago, these among them, and they look GREAT...all of them. The LeMans float bowls was an early version of center hung floats wich worked better when you turned right and left on road courses and ovals, the earlier side hung floats worked best at a straight line and had severe disadvantages when you turned corners in high speed due to the centrifugal forces. The GT40's and Cobra's were among the first to use these carbs thus the name "LeMans" but they also go by the name "cathedral" float bowls. There were also Holley Dominator's with the "LeMans Cathedral" float bowls used in NASCAR.

My Chrysler A 318 poly head engine 3d printed at home
Force replied to my66s55's topic in WIP: Model Cars
We need the Poly Head engines in this hobby, both the A family like this one and the Hemi based Chrysler Spitfire, Dodge Red Ram and Plymouth Hyfire. Mostly all of the Mopar kits has the LA, B or RB engines. but the Poly Head engines were available up to the mid 60's and the kit manufacturers has left a void there. -
Very nice.

Dick Brannan's 1962 Super Stock & Lightweight Galaxie's
Force replied to johnwitzke's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
The 4160 Holley carbs are mounted backwards on the FE's for one reason and one reason only. If the were mounted the normal way you woun't have any room left for the distributor as the metering plate on the 4160's are on the primary side, the secondary side has no metering plate and are shorter so if you turn them around backwards you will have just enough room so the distributor can fit in the normal place...that's why. I just love the Starliner kits as you get all these engine options, with the 2 'n 1 kit you can do 1 X 4bbl, 3 X 2 bbl and 2 X 4 bbl, short and long cast iron headers, oval air cleaner for 2 X 4 and 3 X 2, "Thunderbird" stock valve covers and a couple of plated ones...so you can do all FE HiPo engines available (352HP, 390HP, 406 and 427) from 1958 to 1964 with what's in the kit. -
The 57 300C had 392 Hemi wich ended production 1958 and that intake will not work for a 413 as it's different engine familys. Jo-Han had a 2 X 4 bbl intake and air cleaners for B/RB engines in their 62 and 63 Chrysler 300's but I don't think anyone cast them...I need one myself as I would like to do a correct looking 350 Golden Commando for "Christine".

I'm aware of the Max Wedge history...Yes these were the last factory manifolds they did...but as I said...they didn't last long on race cars as they were swapped out for tube headers, at least as efficient and much lighter. These cast iron Ram Horn manifolds are very rare and you don't see many cars with them today. Ford did have cast iron racing manifolds for the High Performance FE engines, the short style for 390HP and 406 and the long style for 427 but they also often got replaced with tube headers as the cast iron manifolds had a tendensy to crack and break, and the tube headers are a lot lighter...and as you know...weight is an issue on race cars. One thing tho...the Hemi has a different block casting than the Wedge engines with mounting points casted in in the lifter valley for the four bolts for each head that you put in from the underside...Hemi only...the Hemi block also have cross bolted mains wich I don't think any other B or RB had, the Hemi also had a different crank with 8 flywheel bolts instead of the 6 bolt for the other B/RB's.

Well if the 6V71's are side by side it's not really a V12 as we know them, the definition of a V12 is that it has a common engine block with 6 cylinders on each side laid out in a V (60 and 90 degree V's are the most common for V engines but 15 are also used by VAG for example), and one crank...an engine with two 6 cylinder blocks mounted side by side with two cranks indeed have 12 cylinders but it's not a V12, it's just two I 6's anyway.

KJ at Double Take Replicas had a W900L hood designed to fit the AMT T600A cab a while ago, but he's not offering it right now...too bad...I wanted one.

1/25th scale Futurliner
Force replied to robertburns's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The castings looks nice but as many here has said, a little too much for my wallet. One thing that cought my eye...for a Futureliner to look right it should have dual tires in all 4 corners as the real thing had...8 wheels in total. -
Those are the ones I bought from The Modelhaus, these cast iron headers didn't last long on the Mopar Max Wedge race engines as they were replaced with a lot lighter tube headers to save weight.
-
If they are what I believe they are you probably got them from The Modelhaus, I have bought a couple of sets of these special racing cast iron manifolds from them in the past. Attach them to the heads with super glue or 2-part epoxy.

K100E conversion for Revell kits
Force replied to Fat Brian's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I believe the reissue is the 108 inch flat top, but the roof section is a separate piece and the windows for the Aerodyne roof and upper bunk was in the issue of the flat top I bought back in the day, wich was the K100 VIT Australia when it was first released, and the roof section is the only thing that's different...so who knows. -
K100E conversion for Revell kits
Force replied to Fat Brian's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
A K100E conversion would be nice to have, except for the headlights the grille is different too...more blocky and square and there are most likely other small things that's different. on the E -
