PLEEEEEEEZ! Just go back to Flyoverlandia!
Rob Hall replied to SfanGoch's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Pretty funny thread..the last post sounds like your hood is getting infested with Millenial hipsters with artisanal beards. It does sound like a variation on what is a familiar problem in college towns everywhere, the culture clash between students and locals... -
Tamiya already did a nice 500 (and an Abarth version) in 1/24th, so there really isn't need for another, I would think...

Considering most of the Revell 4th quarter releases aren't out yet, there will be plenty to look forward to early next year. I'm interested in the Boss 302 (I love '69 Mustangs) and have the Porsche tractor RoG version on preorder. I may get the Iaconio Camaro Pro Stock, that was one of those kits I remember liking as a kid but never got it back in the day. I have enough '66 GTOs and '94 Impala SSes already, and the other kits on this flyer don't interest me.

As is usual with Japanese releases, the photos are on Hobby Search. Built up pics, what's in the box, and instruction pics. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10486696

What would YOU like to see as a model
Rob Hall replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A '77-79 Thunderbird would be neat, my Mom had one back in the day. As far as new tooling, I'd like to see a more balanced mix between old and new...not enough modern subjects get kitted, IMO. So many current subjects that would be great to see in 1/25th (for US models) or 1/24th (imports). -

And the third w/ the deck style was the Continental sedan, introduced for '82. -
May be getting our first snowfall that sticks here in the Cleveland south suburbs tonight. Had a light dusting in November, and they have had some Lake Effect snow up the coast east of here this week, but nothing yet in my area...

Fascinating... didn't know such a thing existed. Sounds like it would be a good plot event for a 3rd 'Bad Santa' movie. -
A 406 would make a neat kit.
-
Tower Hobbies is also good for that...they have listings for new releases months in advance.

Yeah, I'm 47 and have been around computers and technology since the early 80s. I could understand if someone was 70.. My generation (Gen X) generally got into computers at a pretty young age...not as young as Millenials, though. -

Love the FJ 40 and 60... a buddy of mine in AZ has both...a bright blue 40 and a white 60. Would make great modeling material..would be great subjects for Hasegawa to do, with multiple year variations. -
Unimogs are neat. I'd love to see a kit of the older '60s-70s version like I have Matchboxes of. There was a specialist shop outside Castle Rock, Colorado that imported used Unimogs and Pinzagauers..I remember visiting there with a buddy mine back in 1999-2000 ... went for a ride in one.

Way cool... I want to eventually do a tribute build using an MPC '74.

The 3 61s I have (two convertibles, 1 hardtop) are all curbsides.

1/25 MPC Jeep CJ-5 WWII/Korean Conflict Staff Car & Trailer
Rob Hall replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Interesting..not familiar with that kit.. I checked on scalemates and found a pic of it. Listed as a 1974 release. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/989876-mpc-1-1210-250-jeep-cj-5 And the WW II one that reissued in 2012, looks like it had a gun that could be mounted on the Jeep. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/158940-mpc-785-world-war-ii-jeep There was also the Hogan's Heroes one https://www.scalemates.com/kits/972131-amt-31752-hogan-s-heroes-jeep -
Yeah, I'm 47 and have most all the issues of the '61-69 Continentals...IIRC, only the '61 annuals were curbsides.

Round 2's Datsun 620 Pickup - Out of Box review
Rob Hall replied to Faust's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
AMT definitely had them in the mid 70s also..I've encountered them on a few kits, IIRC a mid '70s Mustang II and a Chevy van kit...dreadful tires. The worst from Revell I remember were some narrow two-piece black tires in the '56 Chevy 'Bad Dream''..it was the first 1/25th scale kit I built as a kid. I also don't like the weird very soft, squishy tires Revell used in the early 80s..(like in the McLaren Mustang and '82 Firebird SE kits). -
So many of the posts in this thread (and in other threads) read like grumpy old men complaining about the modern world. I have to laugh at people griping about hat bills and stuff like that.

Tuesday night I went out to dinner, came home and the power went out. Right after I pulled in the garage and shut the garage door. Total darkness. And my cell phone battery was low. Good thing I have flashlights throughout the house, plugged in the outlets and charging. The power was off for 3 hours. I just laid on the sofa and read a book on my iPad (no internet connection, but it was fully charged). It got down to about 65 in the house, I have a fireplace, but don't have any wood for it. Need to get some of those bagged pseudo wood thingys like I used in my fireplace in AZ.
