I remember from '89-97 or so, hanging out in rec.models.scale (and rec.toys.cars) on the internet newsgroups...in the pre-web browser days on unix machines I used the 'rn' and 'trn' programs to read the newsgroups in plain text. That was my first communication w/ other modelers online.

Yeah, I see those around here..everything from new 4x4 F350 Crew Cabs with lifts and 35 inch tyres (there is a dealership in Scottsdale I drive by all the time that has about 20 lifted new and late model Ford and GM pickups on it) to worn out 20 yr old Rangers that look like they were brush painted w/ fiberglass front ends w/ flared fenders and roll bars in the bed, made to look sort of like Baja racers...with the front ends higher than the rear..really dumb looking.

Fascinating... it only took Ford 40+ years after that to do a regular production 2dr full size truck based wagon (1978) and then 60+ years to do a 4dr one (1997). Though there were probably some aftermarket ones made from panel deliveries through the '50s.

Oh well, football season is over..looking forward to the NASCAR, Indy Car, and F1 seasons which are starting soon.

Neat idea...I've wondered how a '71-73 Mustang fastback roofline would look on a Cougar of those years.

LoL... I did have an AZ storm once that was strong enough that a table w/ an umbrella that was on my patio end up at the bottom of the pool along w/ a couple chairs..

That's the custom grille from the kit, I believe. Neat paint detail w/ the water drops.

i probably go to Hobby Depot in Tempe once a month. It's locally owned as far as I know..

The one near my office in Tempe is in a mall parking lot at the corner of two major 6 lane streets, went there for lunch last week and it was packed...the parking lot seems a bit small for the size of the restaurant--even have a drive through crammed in there...

Portillo's are good.. one opened near my office in Tempe recently...went there for lunch last week.

I wonder if the '59 Impala ht will be the same issue from a few years ago that had the period custom parts that are in the current convertible. Or the lowrider version. Or maybe a Foose version?

Interesting..I have the Pumpin Iron kit in my stash, can't recall if I noticed the difference between the box art and what's inside. One I did notice is the Thunderstruck 4x4 puller truck kit I have has the '79/80 style grille on the box but the '77-78 grille inside.

Too bad they didn't correct the windshield...IIRC, the 'Countdown Series' release of the hardtop had the '68 glass also...at some later reissue of the hardtop they corrected the windshield.

I would assume they will be doing a chrome tree...since they aren't doing the base work truck version w/ black trim. That would be a big oversight not to have chrome plating.

They probably wanted to do something different since they had already done the '68 Road Runner..having two very similar 1 year apart RRs probably wouldn't have sold as well...

Actually, the Prius taxies are quite spacious inside..I've ridden in a couple here and in San Francisco (w/ 4 people + driver inside)..not as cramped as I thought it would be. FWD makes sense for a taxi, as they can have less of a center hump in the floor...

Exactly...Tamiya doesn't build '50s American subjects. Besides, the recent Revell kits with widely acknowledged accuracy issues I was referring to were the '90 Ford Mustang and '70 Cuda (the Cuda being better than past R-M Cuda efforts, but still w/ multiple accuracy issues).
