  1. That DID come out well! The chrome IS a bear to apply on 59's ... I have a hardtop that's been waiting for me to finish the BMF for yea rs ..
  2. I'm enjoying your build and the custom work. The switches with the '57 parts is looking good.
  3. Bah .. I had five 924/944's and ALL were driven year round in the western mountains of Massachusetts! .. and none were beaters. The have galvanized bodies and not a spot of rust appeared an any of them over a 20 odd year time. WE have lot of snow and they use salt galore on the roads. The firs three were trouble in a snowstorm as there were no winter tired available at the time. Once I could get four winters on the last two I could go out on a job in a storm .. and make it up my steep driveway!
  4. This is so cool ... Out Of the Box includes the cardboard! You'd make a good race car manager interpreting the rules! It's looking wonderful.
  5. I'm pretty sure the 1888 Statesman looked different.
  6. A real custom! The interior looks magnificent ... I don't even want to suggest modern Mini I'm totally enjoying this!
  7. I paint everything I can with spray cans, so it's hard not to paint everything! I never really thought about this but a body just doesn't look finished till it's ALL painted.
  8. I always wanted to see a MFH kit go together and you're giving us an interesting W{P to enjoy. An amazing looking kit so tar .. and your build is doing it justice!
  9. eeeekkk!!
  10. Ferrari 250 GTO Ricardo found a pair of mag wheels to fit the back where he was missing an original wheel. Now he could slip the wheels on to see how the clearances were. Up on wheels! Oh, the Ferrari people are going to groan!
  11. I played Minecraft a few years ago because I love games you can create things in. I know a lot has been added since I last started it up, but it's still pretty crude using only blocks ... just imagine our models built in Minecraft style! To many, the crudeness is part of the challenge and pull of it. I've been in Landmark doing my building for the past year. This is a program still in closed but open to anyone. It is the graphics engine being developed for the next Everquest. It use voxels to build which are a cube about 10" on a side. Very similar to Minecraft, you say, but when you see what can be done and the smoothness of things you build you know you're in a different world. I've build way to many things to undulate you with here, like the Eiffel Tower, Mark Trains Victorian house, tunnels, trains and tree houses. Here is a "green and yellow" tractor with harrow on a farm I built. This is a seacoast town that has expanded beyond my wildest dreams when I started it with a fish store and hotel, not with theater, bowling alley, art museums, blacksmith, general store, cafe, laundry mat, windmill, amusement pier with ferris wheel, shipyard, yachts and a sunken ship.
  12. That sure is one ugly car. Is that a barn door in the front? Their wind tunnel must tell them something in a different language that I can't fathom.
  13. Beautiful build of a mild custom. It's really good to see some engine mods on this kit, as fantastic as it is stock!
  14. I always loved this '59 ... it was one during that wild year that was styled the best, IMO. And will be interesting in white .. offset be all that chrome. I did one when the AMT Annual first came out in blue and gold .. was one of my favorites ... before my custom years began.
  15. Sounds wonderful, Art! Love the wood dash...
  16. That one looks really cool .. lots of ideas on how that can be done.
  17. Any DSLR will do you well for anything. The kit lenses are made just to get the price down for those buying a "full" camera all together. I would advise buying the camera body and lens separate to suit your needs, but the kit lenses are a really good deal on their own considering what you get for the money.. Expect to pay more for the lens than the camera body. There are very good lenses made by 3rd party lens makers like Tamron and Sigma that can save you money, especially for additional lenses. I have a Nikon D5100 with an 18-300mm zoom as my normal lens and a Tamron 90mm Macro lens for model shots. The Macro lens stays on my old Nikon D80. I came on this page with a guide to first DSLR and it's pretty good advice. http://gizmodo.com/5331109/the-3-dslr-lenses-you-need-and-2-more-youll-crave
  18. haha New York only got a dusting .. those are like daily photos in snow country. Even in the mountains north of NYC it was only a dusting.
  19. That might be a little low for a really good DSLR, but you should be able to find something to start with. The lens you get with a body/lens purchase won't be the best but will suffice if you look carefully. The most important thing, seeing you posted this here, is that it will focus close enough for photos of your model cars. I have a Nikon DSLR and my all around zoom lens won't get close enough. I have a separate macro lens just for rmodel close ups. Cannon makes many DSLR's of varying price and you wouldn't go wrong with a Cannon. Nikon is also beginning to compete at the lower levels. There are others too that make very good cameras. It all comes down to price and features.
  20. A definite beauty!
  21. I'm in far western Massachusetts and we have hardly anything. Was about 2" this morning and maybe another 2" through the day. Those along the coast will get much more than us, but mu son along the Jersey shore said it was nothing there.
  22. My wife got a Silhouette Cutter for her hobby and I've been dying to try it out on decals. I'd be happy to try some scallops on white decal paper if you can send me the artwork, Tom. I use Photoshop for my graphics work so I should be able to use anything you come up with. Send me a PM if you'd like to try.
  23. This came out pretty good, though the straight lines in the weathering do bother me. I have a tough time figuring how a 1:1 would weather with such straight lines. Probably little more scrubbing to randomize those edges would improve it greatly. Again, the weathering does look good and believable in most areas of the hood.
