Very cool Bug! So that's the old IMC stock/gasser kit? That's some wild exhaust system on it, also. Great builds, both!

Screamliner 359...
Randy Kern replied to Brizio's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow, that's off the wall radical! Can you just see this thing coming down the road at you? Unique and cool! -
Dale, you beat me to it! For a Revell kit, that's not bad. Engine cover that opens and all!
-
Chris, the Hasegawa kit has a box for the engine, and I mean literally, a slab-sided enclosure, with some engine engraving on the sides and bottom. It does have a separate exhaust system, at least the 'Stradale' street version I have does. It looks to be as nice a curbside as the Tamiya, but with the body being one-piece, and a louvered engine cover, you don't see much. If you want a motor, it looks like you'll have to find the Fujimi Enthusiast kit. I'll keep my eyes open!

If this is only your second model car built, then you've gotten off to a good start. Your '55 Pro Mod looks great! If I could offer a few tips, I think your door handle is on upside down, and I think the rear wing should be fairly level on most of these race cars. Other than that, you did very well for only your second attempt! Most newbies should get a lot of box stock builds under their belt, learning and mastering the basics of building, before they go on to custom work. Bill Geary's tutorial in the WIP section is an excellent guide for learning the proper techniques to quality building. I'm still learning for over 45 years. Keep building and learning!

Wild, weird, wacky, and way cool! Fantastic detailing too, Tim. Will it be at the NNL East?

The Tamiya kit, which I did as sort of a resto-mod. Body paint is Dupli-Color Alpine Green Pearl (including the floorboards and fender beading), and the interior is Rustoleum Interior Accents Soft Wheat, with copper embossing powder for carpet. Wheels are from the Revell '50 Ford pickup. A parts box steering wheel, skull shift knob, and aluminum exhaust tips were added, with some engine wiring. I looked through my decal stash and found an old 'Scat Performance VW' decal for the rear window. Oh yeah, you gotta name these little devils, so I used one of my wife's names for our Pug, 'Bumbles' Thanks for looking!

Very cool, Tom! I like that color, too. This is a body style just made for some custom work. Hope to see it at a show soon.

Wow, that is beautiful! This was definitely one of the nicer looking diggers of the era. Those rear wheels & slicks look like the ones in the Bantam Blast kit, which are very nicely done. A sanitary rail!

Grex Gck01 Airbrush Kit
Randy Kern replied to fordsixty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Dale, good to see you posting recently! I am immediately jealous!! This is the very combo kit I am interested in. I also think the trigger type airbrush will be a natural, as I currently am used to a snap-on trigger sprayer for rattle cans. I have seen an online average price of about $375.00 for this complete kit. I like the idea of everything from the same company, together and ready to go, instead of piece-meal, where if there might be a problem with one component they usually blame it on one of the other components. Once you get going, give us feedback, or post another one of your fantastic builds! -
Chris, I saw pics of this from the club meeting (sorry I couldn't be there), and I knew it was started by either you or Dale (two of my favorite race car builders). I like what I see so far! One of my favorite exotics, and it looks real nasty done up as a GT3. I built the Revell kit with no problems, but seeing this makes me want to do a street racer version with a wing, like the Murcielago I did recently. Very cool, can't wait to see it done!

One of my all-time favorite street rods in a gorgeous color! Yeah, that would be hard to let go, Cruz. Just tell him the dogs ate it
-
All four are beautiful models, Raul. It does feel great to give one to a friend, too!
-
Another well-executed, beautiful build my friend! All the modifications fit into the style. Very cool!

Very cool and sanitary clean, Chris! Maybe it should be marked Gilbertsville Community Ambulance?

This is Tamiya's excellent kit of a '66 VW Bug. The only reason it's a 'Penna. look' is because I'm in Pa., not Ca. . The interior color is Rustoleum's Interior Accents 'Soft Wheat'. The body is done in Dupli-Color's Alpine Green Pearl. I love VW Bugs, and I love all the quirky little things about the older ones, like the two different outside mirrors, the body trim, covered headlights, heater controls, etc. The only thing I didn't care for with this model was the bumpers, so I left them off. The wheels are from the '50 Ford pickup re-issue, The steering wheel is parts box, and the oversize skull shift knob is a white metal item from my local fantasy game store. The carpet is copper embossing powder. I have the foiling to do, make some nice slash-cut dual exhaust tips, and the rest of the assembly.

NEW TO THE SITE
Randy Kern replied to John Teresi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hello, John! I'll give you a proper, adult welcome to this forum. I've seen your work in the magazines, and the quality, detailing, and variety speaks for itself. Good to have you! -
I'm not a big fan of customs, but boy, does that Merc look spectacular! The Caddy bumperettes really give the front a cool look, and the whole car is just sanitary. The Futura looks killer, too! Even though it's only three, they are three GREAT builds.
-
Someone at Lamborghini design accidentally got the drawings for that one from the guy who did the 'Vette for the 'Corvette Summer' movie (hopefully by mistake)! . Murci me, save the older ones! .
-
All are fantastic models! I am fortunate to be able to check them out up close every month at club meetings. The Trans Am Mustang is still my favorite .
-
You may have only built four, but they are all beautiful hot rods. Those Cragars actually look pretty good with the big whitewalls on the blue '32.
-
Curt, they are all great builds, with fantastic detailing. Raul is right, you got the elves working overtime! I was glad to get five done, with Chumley the Pug always pesting me
-
Those are all great, Sam. That 1/12 trailer is really cool. Nice to see them all again!
-
Chuck, that's just too cool! I love those pipes . Ah, the things you can do with a VW Bug are endless. Great job!

Tim, I built that kit this year, here is a link to the under glass post. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...c=19123&hl= The kit does have the clear bubble headlight covers, but the headlights are just decals for the stock headlight covers. Since that was the case, I decided to try to replicate the old racer's duct tape covering over the clear bubble covers. I used Tamiya 6mm tape cut in half, then painted Tamiya Silver for a pretty realistic effect. I do know that Reliable Resin has a trans-kit that includes the body with the headlight conversion (including bubbled covers), instead of using the hokey kit headlight decals. He had them on a few racing 'Vettes at the NNL East this year.
