  1. The story goes something like this........ John Greenwood built a 427 powered Corvette for the 1971 12 Hours of Sebring race in an eye-catching American flag paint scheme that covered the whole body. He finished the race with an impressive first in the GT class, and 7th overall! Co-driving the car was then celebrity/part time racer Dick Smothers, of the '60s comedy duo 'The Smothers Brothers'. After the race, the 'Vette was displayed at John's shop for a time. Later, it was sold a couple times over, run hard and put away wet in a barn near New Holland, Pa. A couple years ago an old, decrepit (but still youthful minded) ex-road racer by the name of Kyle Billets found the battered old war horse languishing in the barn. Knowing the historical significance of this once proud racer, he struck a deal, took it home and restored it to run in current vintage road racing events. Wanting to give it his personal touch though, he made a slight change from the original paint scheme, putting the stars & stripes only on the top of the body. He did locate a set of original Minilite wheels from his buddy, another old road racer by the name of Norm Veber, of R&M Co. of Md. The exhaust was brightened up also, with a coat of Jet-Hot, and another nostalgic touch of duct tape over the headlight covers. Kyle hopes you like it, and thanks for looking! Note: any resemblances to people living or dead is purely coincidental.
  2. That really looks good, Lyle. A sleeper for sure. It reminds me of my brother's '57 that he should have kept!

    Silk Cat

Dale, you are definitely a decal guru! Fantastic work, hope to be able to see it at the next meeting.
  4. Here's a later model GTO done as a wagon, by a fellow club member at our club show in '06. I don't know if you're on the forum Karl, but I had to show this, as it's one of my favorites of yours!
  5. The Pugs have a new driver, so everybody else better get out of the way! Hey Nick, clean your room while you're watching the race!
  6. Now the secret's out! Beautiful, Irv. Out in the sun it really pops.
  7. Mark, I think you should do yours in that shade of yellow! I never really liked yellow on much of anything, but on Ferraris it just looks right. I seem to paint a lot of my stuff in non-factory colors, just to be different. For my GTO I actually used a Dupli-Color shade of 'Ice Blue'. Yes, the stance was lowered, the wheels tucked in, and I used slightly larger tires in the rear.
  8. Outrageous, wild, crazy, weird...........but so cool! I love all of these wacky racers . Nick and I saw your in-progress for this in the MCM contest issue. We thought you changed your last name though in the Starliner photo. Motts applesauce? .
  9. Mark, there was that rare one that Enzo did in Grigio Alloy.
  10. Andy, when I saw Lyle's photos of the club meeting I guessed that this Daytona was yours. Another superb example from your bench! Sorry I missed seeing it, I hope to make next month's meeting!
  11. Beautiful build! Welcome to the forum, and keep posting your excellent work.
  12. I didn't like the whole wheel chrome, either, so I painted the spokes a flat, light gray.
  13. Hi, Dan. That Bugeye looks pretty cool in that color! What you've got there is the old Monogram Austin-Healey Sprite. The first box didn't have a scale on it as shown below. It was from the Forty Niner series that sold for $.49 in 1960. Here's the second issue that has the scale on it as 1/32. The body is actually bigger than that, as it scales out to around 1/28 scale. The Gunze Sangyo kit of the Bugeye Sprite is 1/24 scale, which is the one in my signature. I've actually started modifying an old Monogram body to fit on a 1/32 slot car chassis, and being a little bit bigger than 1/32 scale helps it to fit the chassis better. It still needs a lot of body work as you can see . It felt great cutting up an old original kit .
  14. Very nice, clean build! That color really pops, and I like the different, tan color interior. It looks good with the body color. Sharp!
  15. Beautiful build, Mike! A nice, low and clean truck, my favorite style. You really did a great job on the bed, that wood looks just like the real thing. I'll have to try some of the tricks you did, like the tilt hood. Love it!
  16. Have a happy birthday, Gregg! It was good to see you at the NNLs, hope to see you at NNL East.
  17. Different and cool! I like it, and those wheels look familiar, as I had a set on my 1/1 '79 Toyota 4X4 truck.
  18. Very nice, clean build there, Tom! That color combo looks great on the '55. I also used the Hampstead Green on my '69 Nova, and l like that shade a lot. Hope to see it at the NNL East.
  19. Another masterpiece, my friend! The NNL West coverage in the mags should surely include a photo of this rig. Beautiful job!
  20. Very nice, Lyle. For some reason I really like the '41 body style, and it does well in a two-tone. You must have just finished this after the Big Sit. See 'ya at the meeting!
  21. Now there's a fresh look for that body style! Beautifully done, I like the widened fenders and the satiny silver paint. Welcome to the forum!
  22. My favorite street rod of all time (Dan Fink's Speedwagon), especially since I'm a station wagon guy. To own the original would be my dream car.
  23. The '66 Fastback is one of my favorite Mustang body styles, and this one came out beautiful, Chris. Perfect wheel & tire choice, including the stance. Those silver stripes really work with the bright yellow. I'd like a 1/1 like this!
  24. Wow Andy, that is bright! Another fine build with plenty of engine bay detailing.
  25. That came out great, and nice & clean, just how I like 'em!
