That's funny, I was just thinking about starting on mine sometime soon! I got this kit at a local die-cast vendor/swap meet for $5.00 a couple years ago, opened but untouched inside. Saw the real truck at the Pontiac Silverdome in '88. Really a blast to see it pull, and I think it even had a train whistle when he ran!

Looks beautiful, Jeff! Even your non-fancy builds are over the top. As you roll your eyes over everything you can see the incredible detail and workmanship. Hope to see more from you.

Chris, it's about time you're finally getting your work posted! I can vouch for the sunglasses on the first car. Beautiful and expertly detailed builds all. I remember my first contest I entered at the local Hobbytown, this guy shows up fashionably late (as usual) and proceeds to blow everybody else away with an incredibly detailed Nascar build. Sorry I missed your Mustang at the last club meeting, it looks KILLER!

Mike, I've been following this build from the start, and it keeps getting better as you go! Being one of my favorite truck styles, I like the funky factory headlight buckets jutting from the fenders, but have to say I like how streamlined and clean your look is without them. Just a tip for doing the bed wood, I was schooled by one of the best, fellow club member Lyle Willits. Adding clear orange or yellow to the wood, with some graining is an option. I also used future as a shellac/clear. Some guys even add food color as a dye to the future to give it a warmer look. I used Tamiya's clear orange and yellow on my '41 bed. Keep up the great progress!

That really turned out beautiful! I am not one for black paint jobs, but it looks killer on that body style. Excellent detailing, also! I might have to get Donn's DVD (once I get an airbrush), since I've heard some pretty good testimonials. I'm in the same club as Jack, also, so I guess if he can do it, anybody can!

FERRARI 550 MARENELLO With more pics as requested

Chris, I don't care how old your builds are, they all are exceptional! Any color Ferrari will do it for me. -
Dale, I think my son (NickF40) would love it no matter what color it is! That is one wild racer. I like the concept and engineering you put into these builds, not to mention the outstanding detailing. If you could get this over to the NNL East, we could get a close-up look at it! Very cool.

Great build there, Dale! I'd say you're mastering the all-over decal thing. You might have to do a seminar at a club meeting for that sometime.
-
Welcome to the forum, Mike. Your workmanship looks excellent on that little Honda! A co-worker had one of these back when they came out ('84?) and he loved it. A great handling autocrosser, too. A very small car, but I like the little ones, too!
-
Andy, you built a really neat version of one of my favorite trucks. The two-tone paint looks great with the foiled trim. Your wood graining came out nice, and as usual a superb job on the engine detailing. Beautiful!

Is there a Baltimore/DC Modelers Club?

When physically able to, even the old, decrepit non-award winners like the guy in the lower left of the photo come occasionally -

See you and the gang there, Uncle Bobby! Also, the entrepreneur, Mr. Epstein of Carbon Copy Resins. -
Mike, that's looking pretty cool so far. Your motor, and wheel & tire choices look killer. For comparison, here's a shot of my '41 I did last year, using Rep.& Min. Co. of Md.'s 2 1/2" chopped cab with smoothed and peaked hood. To me, a chopped cab on this truck really gives it a long and lean look. Hope this helps with some ideas!

A razor sharp build! That has to be one of the best looking new style Mustangs I have seen so far. It definitely has the 'gotcha!' factor.
-
Clean and tastefully done, Ron! Blue and silver together are always winners. I like how you brought the rear wheels out to the edges of the fenders, too. Cool flame job, also!
-
Another spectacular build there, Dale! I would rank you right up there with all the other super-detailers for sure. I see your camera's getting the reds a little redder! Great build.
-
Beautiful, clean, cherry build there, Jeff! Glad to see you're back at the bench, and hope to catch up with you at a meeting or show.

Welcome to the forum, Roy! Just like any other skill, model building takes time and particularly patience. As Dan said, with practice you will see your work improve with every build. Even if you don't paint much on your first few models, you will learn the basic skills of assembly, and how parts will fit better, as you go. Don't try to learn everything at once, as it will overwhelm you. Also, try to keep your first builds intact, as down the road you can look back and see just how much progress you've made. There really is a wealth of knowledge on this forum, and the members will gladly help you. One other thing, if there is a model club near you, join it. That will most likely get you the best 'hands on' experience. Above all, if you're having fun, you're doing all right!

CPMCC Meeting, January '09

That would be club member Blair Pletchert. I'm not sure if he's on the forum, though. Always great builds of weathered vehicles like that, and rat rods. -
Ted Nugent is not afraid to tell it like it is whether he's politically correct or not. Now, whether the people he talks to have a sense of humor or not, that's another thing.
-
Mike, they all look great, but my favorites are the new Novas. No wonder you haven't been to any club meetings lately, you've been building non-stop!
-
Fantastic work on all, Curt! The '55 Chevy and the two older Ferraris are my favorites. I've seen some incredibly detailed builds of that Hasegawa Testarossa, yours included.
