David- I'm thinking that's the AMT kit- as far as I know, none of the AMT '63 Impala kits had any logos or copyright info engraved on them anywhere.

Oh- forgot to mention- ANY build style is acceptable- factory stock, street machine, rod, custom, drag... whatever you want to build!

"Holy Grail" Models?
Chuck Most replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gets worse.... I know a guy not to far from me who just got one, got it for a screaming deal, and will NOT budge on it, even after I offered him four times what he paid. And it's not like he was looking for one, he just sort of stumbled across it. -
Sweet... it's officially on! I actually dug out the Matador and piddled around with it today, hopefully I'll have some actual progress to report on in the next few days.

A few questions for Johan fans from IMC
Chuck Most replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I believe Testors had the Maverick/Comet, and one of the AMC tools at one point, I seem to remember them being reissued as Testors kits in '05/'06. Well, they were in the Testors Catalog at that time, but I never saw them on the shelves or being built. -

Punch- you mean one o' these? I knew these were rare in the US, but according to Punch and Peter (Mr.Mondeo) they are rare in Europe as well. Rather strange, I think, being these things are about as common over there as Ford E-series/Econolines are here. -

From Deans? I got my sealed '72 Olds kit for $35 from him as well. Mine was the USA Oldies issue- on one of the side panels, the rear illustration shows what looks more like a '69 rear bumper/taillamp setup. -
Call out to all Miget builders

Seems like I ALWAYS have to do that when inserting a pin into a plated part, or a metal axle into a chrome wheel. It seems like some of the clearcoat likes to 'puddle' up in the openings, never mind the fact that the plating and clearcoat itself adds thickness to the piece, or in this case, makes the opening for the pin smaller. -
A NON-AUTO diorama idea I've been kicking around.

I"ve been looking into the water effects- I'll probably go with the Woodland Scenics stuff Mike mentioned earlier. The bugger will be learning to use it properly! As far as the subject, no- but I think I can use the Revell or Glencoe kit of the SS United States. They were identical, and as far as the Revell and Glencoe kits go, I think they were both based off the old Ideal kit from 1954, so either kit should work. -
What Are Your Strengths?
Chuck Most replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Pretty much my biggest strength is seeing potential in junk kits and cast off parts. -
Never even got mine started, and I'm not too confident about any eleventh hour saves on my part.

Same here. Funny thing- my gluebomb project would fit, but I don't want to use the same project on two build threads!

\ I tried that on an earlier build of the 'Buyer's Choice' issue of the roaster-only kit, and it works pretty well- it also opens the door to cleaing up the nasty mold seams on the backing plates. That's correct, but to me, the molded turtle deck looks kind of stumpy. I tried fitting the chopped coupe body to the stock floor/fender unit, and you'd need to either trim the floor or extend the deck. To me, it just didn't look right with the shorter, molded deck on the fender unit.

My favorite '57 Chevy model EVER. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't much care for '57s!

What's Your Achilles Heel?
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm with John and Wayne (heh... John Wayne... ) when I say I also suffer from lack of patience. Under the best of circumstances I have the attention span of a four year old on a sugar buzz anyway, and it gets even worse when I'm trying to turn an idea in my head into a three-dimensional object. I'm a halfway decent builder, and for the most part, my models naturally fall into the 'halfway decent' category, but because I ten to rush things, I am constantly finding out at the end of the build that there are a host of things I could have done better on the model if I'd just taken a bit more time during the construction (and often even in the planning) stages of the project. Examples? 90% of the time I'll just blow through the chassis- you've seen a few of my models, and though most of them look alright viewed from the same angles and perspectives you'd view them in 1:1, don't flip them over! I've got dozens of models with all-flat-black or all rust brown chassis, no shocks or driveshafts, and only a rudimentary exhaust. I always wire my engines, but as far as fuel lines or throttle linkages go, they're pretty rare on my models. And my lack of patience shows up in other areas as well- somtimes the foil trim would look better if I'd taken a bit more time, or a bumper or grille would have more cleanly if I had taken more time to test fit it and perfect the way it fit against its mounting surfaces. Things like that. -
Sounds good! I'm thinking of also re-starting a stalled AMC Matador I've got laying around, in addition to the Rambler.

Thanks for clearing that up, John. Yeah, those shallow tubs with molded seats were kind of an epidemic with Jo Han kits. -
I don't have an Xbox either, but I love my PSP.

Monogram reissued the Paddy Wagon kit about six years ago- they're still pretty widely available. -
I'm strongly considerng getting one (if I can find one at a decent price)- that somewhat 'chunky' body would look pretty good as a pro-touring car.
-
Loving how that chassis looks.

Might be more than a little too nice to be a full-blown, honest 'rat' rod, but if you blew this up to 1:1 and showed up with it at a rat rod themed event, I seriously doubt they'd turn you down. I just plain love it!

I missed out on the X-El reissues when they were current (hey, I was still in the upper-single, lower-double digits in age!), and I'd love to see ANY of them back, interior or not. I always understood the original JoHan Promos had no interiors to begin with and later versions reissued by Mr.Spaulding had resin interior parts. Or did they have interiors originally and the tooling was later lost?
