Know your 50s Cars???
Chuck Most replied to MikeMc's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Quite pleased with myself- 92%. Two years off on the Maroon Merc, brain farted and was just plain wrong on one, and since I prefer my '50's cars nosed, totally tanked the hood ornament segment. Still, not too shabby, I suppose. -

Just head on over to Best Buy, fork over a couple hundred bucks, and bingo... you have achieved technological Nirvana. (Or something along those lines...) -
What do you drive?
Chuck Most replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I built a model of how I thought I'd build it when I owned it, using the Revell cab. It's around somewhere... This version- not being able to find a set of wheels like that are about the only thing stopping me! -

Man, never realized how much the firewall on the AMT kit intruded over the engine compared to the 1:1! -
AMT Slammers? Anyone build these
Chuck Most replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just put them on a full bodied model built to replicate an airbag equipped vehicle with the suspension 'aired out'. -
I'm voting for the 'brushed' look myself, can't say I've ever seen a Falcon's flanks done up that way, but it would look cool.

Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon? Very, very cool!

Looks like the Buick LeSabre concept, with a Studebaker nose. Whatever it is, I like it.

On my Rambler, I used the interior tub from a junk SC/Rambler kit, and the top boot is from a '50 Ford. Oh, and I cut out the stock grille (it had two big slots for the Moon tank), and replaced it with a trimmed down '60 Olds insert. And yes, Casey, it does have the tires with a flame tread pattern. (So did the Revell sidewinder.) No idea if such a tire exists in 1:1, but it looks cool. -
Can I get a rimshot?

Is it still a flathead?
Chuck Most replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep- about the only correlation between the Chevrolet car and the Chevrolet brothers was the name. If I recall, Durant died penniless managing a bowling alley, while Henry Ford was in control of his company almost until the end, even though he was, by most accounts, totally senile. And the Chevrolet brothers resorted to making speed parts for Fords. Chalk one up for Fo Mo Co! As to the question at hand, technically speaking, no, it's no longer a flathead, but since it began life as a flathead, it will always be a flathead. In every magazine article you read, such a setup is ALWAYS described as an ARDUN flathead. -
To anyone who ever said a Falcon could never look mean... I refer you to Gregg's latest image.

Loosely based on a car I've seen out and about in my neck of the woods. Revell Black Widow/150 kit, with a scratchbuilt flatbed and cab wall, a 454 big block, and a general rusty and crusty demeanor.

I've sort of built the 'Ramblur'. I set it up on a pro street '66 Nova chassis, added an interior and AMC engine, and some new wheels, and turned it into a '61 Rambler American street machine. First I did it as a pro street- Then it got damaged en route to a show, so I rebuilt it as a 'Slo Tourer'- -
Keep a weathered eye on the horizon, this one should be in "Under Glass" tomorrow.

A lot of people ask me where I get all my weird, offbeat kits and parts. Right here! I try to swing by at least once a month. http://www.deanshobbystop.com/

Best place to buy kits?
Chuck Most replied to Pastor Plastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm fortunate to live close enough to Hulings Hobby House in Alma, MI, as well as the legendary Dean's Hobby Stop in Flushing, to be a regular customer. There are also quite a few 'hole in the wall' mom and pop places near me which sell models. -
Not a thing about it I don't like... except that 1. I didn't build it, and 2. it's not on my shelf! Other than that, it's golden!

What does jr stand for ?
Chuck Most replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Going back to the Petty drag racing thing- NASCAR actually used to sanction drag racing for a breif period. If I remember, it ended sometime in the mid '60's. -
Touché... I guess it might me a personal preference thing. Yes, a lot of my models wear hoods, and cruddy engine detail is a BIG pet peeve of mine (mostly because cruddy engines don't look good in models with no hoods at all), but personally, on a full-body car like a Falcon, I can live with substandard chassis detail. I know some guys like to go crazy with chassis detail, and I drool over their efforts... doesn't mean I have to do that myself on my own stuff! Maybe Trumpeter should do a 'Throwback' series for their next car kit. Slab chassis, metal axles, sealed hood, the whole deal.

How do you build a satsh of parts????
Chuck Most replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Truer words were never spoken. You create a part to replace a missing part, and just as you finish that scratchbuilt part, the lost kit part just reappears out of thin air... -
in search of '62 imperial parts, amt

Check with the Modelhaus. If he doesn't make it, you're just gonna have to dig! -
That orange thing looks like it used to be a '73-'79 Ford F-series cab. I like it.
