Any of the 63-65 B-bodies would be a no brainer, The 62's were on the same platform but I think they were shorter.
-
Dave and I have talked several times about all the possible B-body variations possible from this kit so I doubt this is the last announcement.... I'd expect a number of variations of that Comet too ..... I can't say either way on a AFX version but I can say Dave has set the bar pretty high. Steve

Here a little better shot of the original car I was just sent and it sure looks a lot like Turbine Bronze to me .... so which is correct ?
-
MM-1 Turbine Bronze was my first thought as the paint formula was available back then to repair any damaged Turbine Cars and it's also listed as spring '65 color for Dodge. I went through this same discussion regarding the "Lawman" 64 Plymouths which appears to use the same color scheme and I could never get a definitive answer. I have one reliable source saying one of the Golden Commandos cars that was recently restored was painted using a Plymouth Prowler color for the Bronze so using a restored car for reference may not be the answer either.
-
Great tip on the color Jason, thanks !!! I looked at the chip for K-5 1970 Dark Burnt Orange Poly on AutoColorLibrary.com and it looks like a great match to most of my reference photos. I'm curious to what was actually used in '65 though considering your source is recommending a 1970 color. Steve

A big thank you to Dave Metzner for letting me give everyone an early preview of this kit which is most likely a mid 2017 release. I built the unpainted one first and it went together so well for a test shot that I jumped on doing a full build of it. I had doubts it would make it to the NNL but I ended up finishing it up with one day to spare. Although Dave doesn't have a specific car in mind yet, based on the AFX parts I had been provided to use from I see at least six possibilities. (Dave please correct me if I'm wrong) Two versions of the Melrose Missile, at least two of the Golden Commandos, the California Flash and the Lee Smith Car. I believe the Lee Smith car was referenced to create the tooling. Another possibility might be the Sox and Martin Car but I would have to research that one further. I picked the injected version of the Melrose Missile to build because I liked it and I found paint and decals available to do it. I was originally leaning toward doing one of the two-tone Golden Commandos car to be totally honest but I had questions about the color used and finding decals. -Steve

I'll be leaving tomorrow about this time along with Bill Borgen, Todd Wingerter and Ken Andrus so we should be there in time for the dinner. I'm only bringing two or three but one of them will be special. I've been quietly working on a project for Dave Metzner for the last two months. It's so new I'm not sure if Dave's ready to announce it yet but I got the OK to bring it. You're probably just going to have to spot it on the tables. See you all tomorrow ! Steve

Hurst Rescue Gremlin
SteveG replied to Aaronw's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great project Aaron !! When I originally heard that the 75 Gremlin was being reissued the "Hurst Rescue Gremlin" was the first thing I thought of but it never got past the idea stage for me. I'm sure glad your doing it !! -Steve -
Here's a few of my favorites you might have seen over the years ..... Euclid Ohio Traffic enforcement Impala OSHP 57 Chevy 150 sedan. Built from an AAM resin trans kit years before the Revell kit was released. CHP "Ghost Charger" Built from the first round of test shot parts for the Lindberg kit. The steel wheels hadn't even been tooled yet, they sent me resin prototypes to use here. '72 Ford Custom 500 "Magnum Force" built from a Modelhaus kit with the Custom 500 trim added. Yes, the Movie car was really green with a blue interior. " Excuse me .... Do you know where the entrance to San Quentin is ...." Great Movie ! A phantom LAPD '59 Rambler SW built as part of the IMC project. Hopefully Moebius along with Model King will make this happen one day. Thanks for looking .... -Steve

Nicely Done Tom !!! Definitely a unique color scheme for a Police Car.

Will we see a new '63 Plymouth?
SteveG replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's no '63 Plymouth currently in the works as far as I know. That being said, I know Dave is fully aware of all the potential subjects that can be done off the '65 Plymouth tooling. There's still more variations of the current kit already planned that have to completed before there's any chance that you'll here about any alternate year Plymouths or Dodges for that matter. Don't forgot about the already announced other kits like the Mercury Cyclone and 61 Pontiac Catalina that still haven't hit the shelves yet. Heck, Moebius just shipped the 65 Belvedere's .... Even if Dave announced tomorrow that a '63 Plymouth would be next (don't bet on it) your talking at least 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 years down the road. Personally I'm a big fan of the '62 to '65 Mopar B-bodies so a modern '63 Plymouth and/or Dodge are both subjects that I would really like to see happen. For now, I'd suggest finding a good 63 Plymouth builder somewhere (like eBay) grab a Moebius 65 Plymouth and have at it combing the two. Should be a fun project. -Steve -
Moebius 61 Ventura exhaust system locator holes
SteveG replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Alan, Thanks for the complement, I actually consider myself to be an average builder. I'm just relaying my experience with the kit. On the last sample I tried I had both the front and rear glass fitting as Moebius intended with no gaps in about five minutes using nothing but hand files. The only work on the body openings I did was to remove the sprue attachment in the front. To be fair, I'm talking about unpainted bodies and pre-production samples. Maybe something changed in mass production just like the exhaust holes Dave mentioned. I'll give you this, I'm not a big fan of the glass trim being molded to the glass. The trim should be more flush, especial the rear glass in my opinion. Maybe we're splitting hairs here but to me that's a design issue. -Steve -
In hind sight I would suggest to Dave that the side panels could have been better used to show off the contents of the kit. This one side panel is the only clue of the non stock parts. I've put all the contents of this kit on line for everyone to see in advance, it's the best I can do for those that want to do a little home work before buying this kit so that there are no surprise. I think Dave's been pretty clear otherwise that it was not going to be a 100% stock kit. I think once you see all the future versions you'll understand why we got this kit the way that it is. Other then a bench seat, I think just about everything else to build a pure stock version is either in the Satellite kit or readily available in other common kits. -Steve

Moebius 61 Ventura exhaust system locator holes
SteveG replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There's a small parting line around the perimeter of both the front and black glass that is due to the molding process that has to be removed. Once that's done the glass fits fine. It's only takes a few minutes and it's really no different the any other kit part that needs minor clean up as part of the building process. I think Moebius going with the glass being installed from the outside on most of their new kits has thrown a lot builders off a little bit. I have to admit I protested pretty hard the first time I saw that design. It was certainly not what I was used to. I haven't finished any of the 61 Pontiac's that I have yet but I've built up quite a few of Plymouth kits already with the similar tight fitting glass design and in the end I think it looks more realistic then the old sloppy fitting glass installed from the inside in most cases. -Steve -
Yes, it's not called Carney's anymore but it still there at the same place. I go there from time to time. I think it's a great kit and Moebius has more coming based on this tooling. I'm betting they'll get more versions out of this one then the Ford Pickup. -Steve

Here's a quick look at the 65 Plymouth Belvedere Production contents that I just got. Look for the kit to be available in about 4 weeks from now. These photos were taken with my iPad, some are not by best work but it was handy for today. The body is highly polished, even smoother then the Satellite. Here's the chrome tree with multiple wheel options. Note the Hemi valve cover for a later version. Here's the new seats and the Super stock style exhaust pipes .... And here's the steel wheels that go with the dog dish hub caps .... Here's the big and little street radials .... The decal sheet .... These are just the highlight of the kit, the full photos are on my Fotki page, just follow the link below. http://public.fotki.com/SteveG26/moebius-projects/page2.html -Steve

I just got my production sample minutes ago, I'll have photos later. I can confirm that the 4bbl intake, carb and air cleaner is carried over from the Satellite kit as an option vs the 2x4bbl parts and the Hemi style air cleaner. There are 6 tires, all modern radials so you can either do 4 standard width or big and littles. Same goes for the wheels. Both the steelies and chromed mags wheels have 6 each to include a wider pair to go with the optional wider rear tires The chrome tree also has a few extra goodies to speculate on some future version(s). All the above parts will also work on the previously released Satellite kit for those who want to build it as a street machine too. Watch for a new post later today ... -Steve
-
This kit represents a modern street machine, not a 100% factory stock model. Beside the parts listed above it also comes with bucket seats, 5 spoke mag wheels and street radial tires. It also has the super stock style exhaust with the removable caps. Swap out the skinny tires and dual exhaust from the Satellite and along with a single 4bbl carb, manifold and stock air cleaner and you have a pretty accurate factory Police Package Belvedere. -Steve
-
Chris, I don't how Chicago PD equipped there cars in back then but I can say that the Plymouth Belvedere Police Package was available with bucket seats on both the 2 Door and 4 Door sedans in '65. I'm already working on 65 Plymouth Belvedere 2 Door State Patrol car based on this kit and I will be using the bucket seats. Steve

Not Art but since Lindberg acquired all the existing IMC tooling way back when and Round 2 now owns Lindberg you could argue they own the IMC 48 Ford tooling too. As far as I know that tooling is still lost along with the others that Union had run. Steve

SteveG replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautifully done Mike ..... amazing considering you started off with box of junk parts. Maybe after Moebius has exhausted all versions of the fifth generation 67-72 F series will see a proper short and long bed 73-79 F series from them. Either that or someone will have to offer a resin cast standard bed before I build one. My prior attempts with a razor saw didn't work out as well as yours. -Steve
