What's up with no posting?
von Zipper replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe the Moderator should follow the same rules and post their real names too ? Speaking of senseless tripe....how about some Menudo ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t4Dp3Gr-Gw&feature=related -
Last year I asked the nice lady that owns the book store/news stand if she would get Model Car Magazine in stock-she said "No Way" ! since they carry Scale Auto, I asked her why not ? she replied "By the time MCM arrives at the store it is already expired." She went on to tell me that she sells about a dozen copies of Scale Auto every two months, and IF she ever has a copy or two left that didn't sell that she can return them to her supplier for a refund-but they will not take the MCM back because they were already expired when she ordered/received them. She went on to say-and I quote- "If I was running a grocery store, I would not exept an order of bread or meat that was expired before it got to my store either" She asked why I just didn't get a subscription and have it delivered to me? So last Sept. 26, 2011 I ordered and paid for a subscription......got it the first week of January 2012, I believe it was the Oct. issue....and the last two pages were un-readable. 3 months and two weeks to get a subscription is not exeptable !! I'm sorry to say that I asked for my money back, (and got it)

Drilling a very small hole in sprue
von Zipper replied to vintagestang's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Just picked up this set last week, some times I put the part that needs to be drilled in the cordless drill chuck and hold the tiny drill bit in my fingers, making sure to pull the drill bit out to un-load the chips so it does'nt get packed up and break the bit. -

The first time I saw it was at the drive-in movies in the late '60s. It still pops up on TCM from time to time. -

Animal Inspired Cars & Models
von Zipper replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My friend "Dinky" influences alot of my model builds....some good and some bad. He steals parts from time to time and gets hair in a paint job. Another lesson I've learned from young Dinky-- Some times he wants to share his enthusiasm and make new friends only to get a face full of Porkie-Pine quills. -
What was tucked under the tree,2011
von Zipper replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My family ordered me a subscription to Model Car Magazine for Christmas on Sept. 26, 2011- So I got a printed copy of the E-mail from when they ordered it because the magazine hasn't gotten here yet......... -
I would like to help out with this, and hope I don't make it more difficult to understand. First we have to understand the difference between a fraction such as 1/4,1/2 or 3/4 as opposed to a scale value such as 1/24 or 1/32 ect. And then some thing different altogether-decimal value. A fraction is a different subject than scale value when we are going to reduce 1;1 subjects into scale sizes. The way I do it is in a decimal form. An inch will look like this 1.000 If you look at any thing in 1:1 and want to convert it into any scale for modeling we take the value of a foot is 12 inches in 1:1, divide 12 by what ever scale you would like to work in and it will give you the decimal value. A foot is 12 inches divided by 48 (1/48) will equal 0.250 12 inches divided by 24 (1/24) equals 0.500 12 divided by 25 (1/25) equals 0.480 12 divided by 32 (1/32) = 0.375 12 divided by 78 (1/78) = 0.153 If you were 5 ft. 8 in. tall and wanted to make a figure of your self in any scale, you could do it like this= 5ft.8in. would be 68 inches so we will use 68 as the first value divided by what ever scale we use. 68 divided by 48 (1/48)you would be 1.416 tall 68 divided by 25 (1/25) you would be 2.720 tall I bought this dial caliper at a pawn shop for $20.00 and use it all the time on my model bench. If any body would like to start a thread in the "How To" section, I'd be happy to help any one learn the basics of using dial calipers in our hobby.-Chris

Ya know, I'm not the type of guy that would call someone a liar....nor would I want any one to call me one either. My Dad worked at Ford/Rouge Plant in Dearborn for 35 years and in the same complex was the Mustang/Cougar assembly line....OH YEAH there were some 5.8 Mustangs that came out of there ( I saw them). In 1993 I tried to order a brand new Mustang Cobra from Riverside Ford on Jefferson Ave. downtown Detroit-That was the number one "Ford Motor Sport" dealer in south/east Michigan at the time-the sales man said to me "They will not sell any 5.8 Mustangs to the general public" that it was a special police package only. On a side note: I was on my way home from work one day in my '90 -5.0 and a brand new '92 or '93 Ford Ranger with Manuafacturers plates on it rolled up on me and spanked my Mustangs bottom !! After a few rounds of "getting it handed to me" we pulled into a gas station to talk-THAT brand new Ranger had a 5.8 and a 5spd. in it---Now I hardly doubt they sold any of them to the public either ? That guy worked at Ford Mo. Co. -Research and Development off of Southfield Rd. and Rotunda if you want to check. This is public info. here too- There were alot of Mustangs around that time, that rolled out of Dearborn with out any V.I.N #s at all-it was some kind of crime ring that some of the upper management came up with- until one of those guys tried to insure one that had a salvaged V.I.N. from another Mustang they had already totaled and paid off on-BUSTED !! But I've heard that had gone on for years before they got caught.

In the early to mid 70s I used to go to a hobby shop in the Detroit area called "West Point Hobby" and every so offten an old man would come in with a big cardboard box full of loose Johan parts. There were bodys, interior tubs, bumper & grills ect. there was never enough to make a whole kit. The guy that owned the shop said they were seconds and flawed parts and would sell that stuff by the piece. I bought a '62 Dodge Dart body that was swirlled in red and blue plastic for a dollar. Looking back on it now- That might have been John Hanley himself that brought those boxs there ? Since then I have stripped the chrome from a few vintage Johan kits to find the same swirled colored plastic underneath.

In May of 1990, I bought a new Mustang GT from "Bill Brown-Truck Town"> Ford dealership on Plymouth Rd. in Livonia MI It was Ultra Blue with silver panels on the bottom. It had a 5.0 w/5spd. rated at 225 hp. out of the box. Within a year and 5 thousand dollars later it was making WELL over 300 hp. The most costly up grade was the frame connectors to keep the body from twisting-the cheapest up grade was a few washers behind the throttle cable to get full travel out of the gas pedal. That Mustang could/would eat the SVO's and SC's lunch !! ...in it's class-the only thing that gave it a good run was an un-marked Dearborn Police 1992 Cougar with a 5.8... I gave it a good try until he turned those lights on !!
