  1. It's the Revell standard Phaeton kit (also available as a street rod kit) which comes with wire wheels, but I don't know for sure if those are the kit wheels.
  2. In my kit, the tires are two-piece white plastic. If that's what's on this build, it's a terrific job.
  3. Scroll about a third of the way down this page, and there are several shots of a good box-stock build, which should help you see how it comes together without much modification. http://www.flickr.com/groups/scalemodel/pool/page4/?view=lg
  4. Dang, that's gorgeous. Superb detail.
  5. Here's the way I want to build my Bburago -- the Rodney Clarke road version, which has since been restored to its original Grand Prix version. Here's what I need to scratchbuild and can't quite figure out... carburetors brake chain
  6. Superb. I have been amassing tons of information and parts to build a 1:15 T59 based on the Bburago kit (which really isn't 1:18), and yours looks perfect. My biggest problems are trying to figure out how to build the brake chains and the carburetors, which have to be done from scratch. Did you scratchbuild the piano wire wheels (I got mine from Ruby at bugattibuilder.com)? Also, I can't find more than one picture at the site you referenced. Do you have a link to more shots?
  7. Well, there may have been only one Futura, but there are plenty of Futura kits!! White show car, red movie car, Batmobile, rustmobile. And yes, though this is a wonderful build, color should be a pearl white with a slight blue tinge to it.
  8. I would love to see one of our rusty-crusty members like Dr. Cranky do a version of this as it sat on the Barris back lot before it was used for Batman, still wearing faded red from "It Started With a Kiss." http://theinvisibleagent.wordpress.com/2010/01/23/the-lincoln-futura-concept-car-1955/
  9. This is awesome -- Porsche's new hybrid super sport car. Lord knows how much it costs, but hopefully there will be a kit for we fantasists. http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/4792/Porsche-918-Spyder.html
  10. Just outstanding. And pearl paints look a ton better than regular metallics. Any interior shots?
  11. You'll find several 250 LM kits toward the bottom of this page, by a variety of manufacturers (some of them reissues under different brands) http://www.italianhorses.net/DB/250%20Series.htm#250%20(275)%20LM%20-%20250%20(275)%20P
  12. It's one thing to post factual, usable information - instead of mere opinions and rumors - which is greatly to be desired. It's another thing to get people to read it. How many times do members post opinions and questions that are answered in the original post or during the thread? A lot.
  13. Lawsy, that's nice. The only other one I've ever seen was a beautiful version built by fellow member Art Anderson, and I can't remember if it was meant to be a Beverly or Westchester..
  14. Scroll halfway down this page. It is a Revell AG re-release of an Italeri kit, which should also be covered earlier on the same page. http://www.italianhorses.net/DB/250%20Series.htm#250%20GTO%20Series%20I "Revell re-pack of the Italeri kit. Kit has different decal sheet, with racing stripes and numbers (not the best quality) and instruction sheet. Out of production, but still available on many auction sites. Prices are higher than other Revell re-issues, close to original Italeri kit." ITALERI KIT REVIEW: "If you are looking for a full detail GTO kit, and can't find Gunze 250 GTO with engine kit, this is the next best thing to get. Italeri's GTO is an excellent and very detailed kit, but unfortunately, not flawless. Kit shares several major parts with other 250-series kits in Italeri's lineup (SWB, Cal Spyder), which include same heavy looking wheels and tires. Body proportions are quite accurate, but body requires some mold lines and flash cleanup. Many parts of the kit are plagued with pin marks and sink holes (typical for Italeri kits of the period though), and will benefit from careful filling and sanding. Kit has detailed engine and transmission that attach to excellent chassis frame with full suspension. Parts fit is good. Decals are very crisp and nicely registered, but chrome parts are slightly on a heavy side. Instruction drawings are misguiding at times, but good overall. Kit is long out of production, and due to the fact that it is a base for several GTO-related transkits, is getting hard to find." This information is from Alex Kustov, the leading authority on 1/24-25 plastic Ferrari kits. You should follow his build journals (though not for this kit) at www.itailanhorses.net, where you will also find some superb tutorials. In addition, he has created a fairly comprehensive catalogue of Ferrari kits -- click on the name of the car you're interested in, and you will get a page of listings and reviews on a multitude of kits: http://www.italianhorses.net/DB/db.htm
  15. Superb job, especially considering the challenges. And the engine is awesome.
  16. No guessing necessary. See their announcement in post #1 -- given without explanation of why they were dropped, or why they chose not to try to renew it. Probably was too expensive.
  17. Looking good.
  18. But the junior law clerks need something to do.
  19. ...and women in Balenciaga gowns. But this is another example of what happens with copyright considerations, which are often discussed on this forum. I mean, this is happening to a supplier that actually HAD a copyright agreement, not a pirate, and it's being withdrawn.
  20. This may be of interest to some racing and diorama builders (I don't know why it came to my e-mail). Microscale Industries Announcement ExxonMobile Terminates Trademark License Agreements - Effective June 9, 2013 Recently we were notified by ExxonMobile that our Mobil decal 87-938 & 60-938 that we have been printing since 1998 may no longer be printed due to a termination of the license agreement by ExxonMobile. As of June 9th 2013 these decals will no longer be available. Please use this opportunity to stock up on these collectables for you, your kids and grand kids. You only have a few more weeks before these will have to be formally destroyed to comply with the termination agreement. These will make a great collectable...so get them while they last. Click on the image below to be directed to our website for ordering. HO Scale - 87-938 | N Scale 60-938
  21. I'm not going to go back and nitpick, but I would say that posts 63, 64 and 65 now substantiate your position.
  22. I've gone back through the thread and I don't see anything that doesn't relate directly to the Original Post, in spite of a bit of contentiousness. It may have taken a slight detour, but I don't think it's off the rails. Virtually all replies reference appealing to younger generations. From the original post: "Modeling needs to attract these newer generations if it is to continue on for much longer. That realization has been around for years. Being a member of this middle ground, this gray area between the younger end of one and the older end of the other, I can see some real opportunities for the modeling community to draw in these "kids". "
  23. http://www.revivalinternational.com/template.php?pag=35967 I'm also looking forward to seeing Jurgen's examples.
  24. As has often been mentioned in other threads on this subject, cars are only part of the model kit industry. Real data on market segmentation by subject type, buyer profiles, sales figures, growing or shrinking markets etc., would be very interesting to know. Hobbico probably has such data.
