  1. The start of the laws protecting children form beer and cig advertising.
  2. Some good stuff returned to the kit. I didn't like the 90's refresh.....
  3. Yes......the big 3 US based manufactures. And again only the main focus of this segment which is 1/25-24 plastic soft skin vehicles. (civilian cars and trucks)
  4. Agreed....the next ten years for both hobbies will be telling. Large collections in both hobbies will come to market as folks just age out or pass.......will this draw some folks in or make the secondary market worthless due to glut. I am happy I am not on the retail end any longer so I can sleep at night. No one in the plastic model car or model train biz is getting rich! Thanks
  5. I think we agree basically. And we are in the middle of some GREAT plastic model car products. I LOVE the fact I can buy some AMT or MPC kits I had seen but never owned. I'd love it if we got 8-10 new tools a year....but it just can not be supported by the numbers we have today. Maybe we need to do something different to draw the public.....that's a topic that would be great! I've been in this hobby since I was 4 years old......as a hobbyist, a retailer, a aftermarket manufacture, kit manufacture and consultant. I have more invested in this hobby than I'd ever care to admit.....and want it to go on WAY past my lifespan. But we need realistic expectations.
  6. Wow......trains are dead......We'd better tell the three big promoters to shut down. Just one train show running from 2005 will get near 1.5 million PAID attendance with this years show (total over run) And with about 25 shows yet to happen this year with over 30K expected at each I'd love it if model cars were that 'dead'. My post was NEVER meant to be a this is better than that......it was ONLY to show how small a hobby we are. Let's discuss that and not how much better model cars are than trains. I'd love to hear how we can draw even 20K to a all plastic model car show......that would show R2, Revell and Moebius we NEED many more new tools rather than old ones warmed over. PS. If model trains are dead why does Lionel sell out of their high end locos that sell at the $2K mark and they offer 4-8 new locos a year. Maybe if we were willing to pay say $75 per kit we'd get more new tools. PPS Scouts often attend and they are often free....but can not be counted as PAID attendance.
  7. That is as you kinda imply apples and oranges. RCHTA/iHobby is dead.....there was a large general hobby show that was held in Anaheim Ca that drew big crowds but it too was a general hobby show and not a themed show. The 'Great American Train show is TRAINS only and draws 50-80K at EACH show......multiple shows a year. My whole point was not to beat down our plastic model car hobby but rather try and shine some light on how small a group we are. Drones are now considered a 'hobby' and as of today is bigger than model rail hobby which is bigger than the model car hobby.......the fact that we have some great products today in our hobby when the mind set of most companies today is if you can't get WalMart to buy a million of your product it's not worth making. Thanks
  8. Super Bug....I'll take 2 of them....... I'll wait on the 57 Ford to see WHAT they have restored.....could be good if long lost parts are back. For such a small hobby we should be a little less cynical.............. What is our biggest show by attendance?? NNL New Jersey?? Not sure how many attend but it is no where near what MANY model train show draw and model trains are considered a VERY small hobby segment. One large recent train show had 50K attend over 3 days.........does our hobby have any event that can claim 1/3 of that??? 1/4?? Yet as small a hobby we are we expect our few manufactures to spend HUGE money for new stuff all the time......mainly so we can then beat them up about how bad the new tooling is. We really need some self examination.
  9. Nice work!!! You'd be a great model railroader!!
  10. Mopar only shows allow me to attend as a twice removed cousin????
  11. Not only worthless but DANGEROUS.........turbine fumes are harmful.....send it to me....I'll risk it!!!!
  12. I think that is the correct car for a BTTF Taxi.......may have to get one.....
  13. If anyone knows it may be Art Anderson......
  14. I'd love some Trans Am kits........
  15. All the wood bucks I have seen are 1/10 scale so when they use a 2.5 reduction.....1/25 scale! I own one myself.....
  16. The R2 Lindberg 1/25 boat kits were 'Made in Michigan'......
  17. Not sure any kit manufacture even attended the NYC show. It, like the iHobby (RCTHA) has shrunk to a shadow of it's self.
  18. Which Dupli-color primer???? I have better luck with Dupli-color #1699 sealer as a primer. Seems less hot maybe??? Whatever reason almost no issues ever for me.
  19. I keep 3 cans of #1699 primer sealer on had at all times....love the stuff.....It's not Tamiya but I get it at the store local for $4 in that giant can.....Good stuff.
  20. You don't have to twist my arm.....much....I'll supply the car for drawings!!!
  21. Cost of manufacturing in China is getting real close to USA.......add to it the issues around some of China's domestic polices.....USA is viable again.....
  22. They closed shop before kit was ready.
  23. Monogram and AM Taurus = same designer........ The AM kit has much finer details. Kinda what a next generation Monogram kit could have been. The MSRP target was the same as Monogram....in order to compete......and the body, tires and glass were to be shared with a Testors version that was pre-painted and much simplified. That is how they planned to keep the cost down.....duel purpose kit. I have drawings for the Testors version but not test shot....not sure any were done.
  24. I made a new post for the complete photos of the Accurate Miniatures NASCAR Taurus kit. Thanks Accurate Miniatures Taurus test shot.
