Dave Van replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
You guys did see this was a 2007 announcement.....right? -
Dave MK did that kit a few years back..........but I have been out of the 'office' for about 3 weeks......my sister became ill and then passed.....so I have not talked to Dave B in weeks....but I'll check to make sure.

B-24 Awesomeness
Dave Van replied to philo426's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
DETAILS!!! I like a nice B-24 too.....built a Monogram 1/48 years ago but my cat jumped on it and broke it's back much like some of the real ones did!!! -
The 'artwork' you created for this is alone fantastic......

More progress today........ About got the bed finished. I narrowed the Hillbillies bed as it was very wide. Added new sides with stake pockets made from channel and strip stock. The front and sides are strip stock with added wood grain. They are made removable. I am about at the point I need to start painting and assembly. Hard to see in these photos but got the trim on the cab too. Thanks

WOW again....this is ART!

The only fees I ever paid was the $25 they charged at first. BUT......talking to industry insiders when it happened..... the fee went to a flat fee and a per item fee. I never saw any proposal myself....but do know it was considered enough that kit prices retail would have to go up $2-3....remember drivers, sponsors and teams were doing the same thing at the time......so $30 NASCAR kit in 1999 would not sell......

Need Barris T-Buggy ideas
Dave Van replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This started life as a Barris T Buggy......... It's what I call Ichabod's Coach.......I built it after watching the Depp version of the Ichabod Crane story. Kinda like what would he drive in a modernized version of the story. Made to look like a old wooden coach with Corvair power.......just for fun.....always thought I'd detail it more....but never have.... -
Correct.......GoodYears fees went up a BUNCH....but by that time I was out of the biz. I have even heard rumor later GoodYear realized playing hard ball was a mistake and went back from the per model fee to a reasonable fee. The model company sent them a bill for the cost to engrave GoodYear on all the molds.......you know what happened! Round2 has much more product line to spread the cost across. TONS of die cast in 1/64 to 1/18. It's just a different deal. I kinda stand with Revell....charge me to advertise YOUR product?!?!?!?
-
Can't say it better than Ace and Art already have...... Two items..... The model companies reverse engineer kits all the time......two I got to help on....Dragon Circus Wagon from RM and AMT/MK Imperial. Both these, and many others, were reverse engineered. License fee's can be debated forever. I got a REAL good education when we entered the NASCAR hobby market back in 1985. Our first license was with GoodYear. They charged us $25 a year, a sign contract release and a product sample. This is ALL that is needed to protect the company in EVERY area of the law. Copyright, liability and trademark law all covered 100%. The choice by some company's to turn licensing from protection under the law to a profit center is a completely different topic. We can talk about it forever.....but we can't change it.

Nice work! I NEED to build one.......Dad was Valvoline Racing director 1960-70 in So Cal. Tommy was their big name at the time.....plus Mom liked him as he was a TV star too!!! (who else knew that!) Tommy gave me a factory built Showboat.....but it did not survive my childhood!
-
WOW WOW WOW!! You are way past my pay grade!!! Wish you would resin cast that thing.....since my email addy is AMX3.....I MAY like this project!!
-
Agreed very nice.....I have it and the Modelhaus resin that will become the NASCAR Tucker race car!!!
-
Dave Burkett is a great guy that I am privileged to work with. An asset to the hobby.
-
I like this car MORE than I would a BOSS or Mach1.....it's DIFFERENT. When I take my 73 Javelin to a show.....I am almost ALWAYS the only Javelin.....everyone else is a AMX. But it MIGHT be a $15,000 Mustang.......maybe someone is dyslexic?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
-
As soon as he gets paid for that run!!!!
-
I had to buy a new Camera......just playing around...but I liked this one.... Thanks for the comments!!!!!

Ever been to the backwoods of the Carolina's???? Thats not rust but red brown Carolina clay that sticks to everything!! I tried to make it look as if it was driven on wet Carolina clay roads and not washed.....at least not yet!!!! Missing headlight and vent windows is one reason I pulled the kit from the stash.....no collector value......so BUILD IT!! If any one has an extra I'll install it.....if not the Govment Men shot it out!! Thanks
-
I have been in a bit of a slump. Grabbed a 1970's era AMT kit that was minus vent windows and built a kinda moonshiners car. Box stock, Duplicolor Hot Rod Primer rubbed out for a semi gloss. Weathering is chalks and washes of alcohol and chalks. A one day project to get me rolling again. A little red Carolinia clay dust and mud....... Thanks for lookin!!!
