Nice clean build. I think I built all the Dave Deal kits back in the day......have a few mint kits to try again someday. Many years ago I thought about the Dave Deal plane kits and wondered what a Tom Daniel plane based kit MIGHT look like. This was the result. BAD SPAD showrod........It was fun anyway!!!! 1/28 Revell Spad kit was the base. -
That Ford Econline van in 1/25 would have sold millions....even into today!
-
Well........the kit as a whole is not 1/26 or 1/28 like some older Japanese kits.......but the body A pillars forward has issues.....again they don't bother me but get the digital calipers out and......

Worked OK in the film 'Solar Crisis' so why not!!!

Both AMT and MPC had 69 Mustang kits. My understanding is the AMT tool was modified into the funny car 'MACH WON' then the long nose Rhona kit?? The MPC version nose is too narrow for some reason....maybe a semi funny car body or something. But I do not notice the issues with the MPC as much as the new tool 1/25 Revell kit which has a very flat pug look for some reason.....even Revell was not real happy at the time it was done.
-
There is something 'wrong' with both kits.....the old AMT/MPC kit or the modern Revell kit. Both have issues up front. But I like the AMT version a little better.......the 'issues' are not as easy to see on it......the Revell kit screams wrong to my eyes.

Kinda figured we'd get a sleeper kit of some kind. Wonder if they will 'find' the Pete sleeper for a rerun of the 2nd edition of the Pete???? Kool idea anyway. -
Next Project: Jack Ingram LMS

Drew..... Just catching up on this one. And a bit off topic.....the car in your avatar.......is that yours??? Did you ever have it at Good Guys in Charlotte?? My son took a ride in one about like that back many years ago when we lived in Charlotte. Just wondering. -
Being a AMC fan, owning 2 right now, I am happy to see any AMC kit. BUT.....a 1/20 scale AMX is not what I'd pick first. Talk to any wholesaler and 1/20 is a dog sales wise. Good to see re-tooled parts, that will help some. I hope it does well and makes AMT/R2 look at the Matador kit or GASP....a new AMC tool. I vote a new tool 1971 Javelin that can be issued as any 71-74 Javelin or AMX, street stock, Trans-Am, drag etc. A viable kit IMHO. PS I have two of the MPC AMX kits.....just a bigger version of a 1/25 scale kit....not much different.

Fantastic look and build.......I like it! -
If AMT thought there was money in the kits.....they could be restored back at any time. The GTO was, the 69 Torino was. The Falcon is the only one I'd put any money into. It MIGHT get a return on investment if the stock stuff is floating around in the mold. The rest would not turn a profit.....and had they not been modified and given new life would have been scrapped by now anyways.

What did you see on the road today?
Dave Van replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ford and Chrysler do a lot of testing along rural WV I-64 corridor. I see cars all the time 2-4 in a row, with the wild black and white tape designs or thin foam taped over areas. I followed what looked like a Challenger but I think it was a test Cuda as it had the greenhouse but front and tail were all new. hard to tell what they are at speed. I think they like it as there is no major citys after Charleston, little traffic at all and lots of different elevations with one HUGE up hill/down hill section that will test anything! -

On my annual visits to So Cal Buena Park area I find that day to day we are in the only cool car around. Now go to a show and that's a different story.....but daily drivers are econo boxes and wanabe low end BMW's etc. We ride in.......and these are daily drivers...... I did see a cool item on the road today.......a 350 pound black bear.....running down route 28 while I was out today..... -

Dare to be different!!! I always wanted to build a Can-Am car out of one! -
Thanks guys for the info on lettering.......I have an ALPS so I will draw up some and print in metallic and get closer anyway....
-
I got my kits Sat and looked it over. NOT a complaint as I understand decal limitations and cost factors.....but should the 'Plymouth' and S&M be in silver leaf or metallic??? I do not know my vintage P/S well enough. I do want to build this soon. I like the looks of the kit and living in NC for many years this was kinda the home team!

Will GM's problems ever end?
Dave Van replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't buy into the big corporation ....no one can make a decision....blame needs to be carried by multiple people....etc...... I worked in the banking industry for a top 3 bank. We were paid well, worked hard often nights and even Christmas day. And because we were paid well, like GM mgnt, we were expected to not make mistakes. I always give people this example of doing their job 100% correct and why they expect it out of me......and I should of them. Let's say you deposit your paycheck of $1000. Next day you look at your account and it says deposit was $900. You call and complain and we tell you that that's pretty good....well within our 10% error tolerance . You explain that you want 100% of your deposit....close is not good enough. And this is just money and not something that can kill you or hurt you and others. (disclaimer....banks make errors.....and every one I ever investigated was traced back to an employee not doing 100%) GM needs to be held to the same tolerance as we do with a bank. -
Will GM's problems ever end?
Dave Van replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I read about the new recalls....all I could think was 'how are they going to fix them all??' Just for fun let's say each recall takes 30 minutes each....from roll in to roll out. I think that's way to short but this is just for fun. Almost 30 million cars affected.......30 minutes each........15 MILLION man hours to fix them all. I don't care how many mechanics you have that's a LOT of time......and from what I have read some of the recall fixes will take much more than 30 minutes. It took our local GM dealer 5 days to replace the rusted brake line on my step Mom's car. (to be fair the work 1/2 day Sat and off Sun....but still 3 days) Any way you look at it....an Albatross around GM's neck for a while! -

Will GM's problems ever end?
Dave Van replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I RECALL a few years ago when GM announced they were going to seal the hood with only small aircraft style panels to check fluids etc and removing the hood would void the warranty. That didn't go over well......so maybe they choose to over engineer!!! -

Hold on!!! I kinda like my AMC's having Ford starters, regulators and alternators. I have 66 and 68 Mustangs so I only have to know one system!!!Many also used Autolite carb's so another part I didn't have to learn! And yes my Javelin and Matador have Chrysler auto trans...but it's a good unit so I don't care!! AMC did more with less than anyone in the automotive world. And during the 70's when no US maker was leading the world in quality they were at the front of the worst! -

Dug mine out....a bit beat up and dusty. This is the DM&I version of the kit....issued only once. Different boiler front etc. Wish I had a mint kit now.
