  1. I drove a 2nd gen Carvair from a used car lot back in my HS days. The car was WILD all over the place. I had friends with Corvairs and knew they didn't behave like that......returned to the dealer and told them.....they said 'Oh yea....the right rear has a leak and is real low'.....even 2nd gen were sensitive to PSI !!!!
  2. No photos of even the new parts????
  3. Honda and Nissan had a big recall today on Japanese made air bags. Interesting article in the automotive press that likened the recall, no incidents yet but bags can fail due to moisture contamination, to mass hysteria caused by the massive GM recall.......so has this become a issue bigger than the GM recall??? Is it now going to cause every part failure become a recall??? Seems like a slippery slope of recalls, fines, lawyers, repeat.......
  4. I said that all along.....sighting that even my Honda Fit had a recall.....it was HOW GM handled the issues....how long it took and how it was brought into the open that is an issue. AND .....again it is a mind set that has gotten into the American corporate culture and every aspect of our lives.
  5. Very nice tooling for sure!!!!!! Hope it don't get recalled!!!!! (It's a JOKE!!!!!)
  6. No problem here.....that was wrong too......but then again I didn't give Ford millions to 'save' them either. And before we have the 'they have paid it all back' go to Forbes and search GM bail out and read how they did it.....crooked too and done just for an ad campaign. Again...I go back and relate this to kids trying to point to another as being worst than them.
  7. nice and clean build....my favorite no matter the subject!
  8. To be somewhat relevant I can't see going back to Pinto days to show how bad someone else is. Like my kids when teens.....one would get into trouble and then remind me the other sibling wrecked his car last year.........NOT RELEVANT to what happened today!!!!!! Otherwise we dig up all the Corvair issues, or every other issue that happened LAST CENTURY. I don't even see an issue with recalls.......cover up I see an issue. No matter who or what.......Cars can have bigger negative outcomes than a junky cell phone or TV set.
  9. This is not a 'I hate GM' thread......this is 'look how this corporation, that we trust our children and our own lives to, really doesn't care what happens to us. It's a symptom of a much larger, bigger than GM, problem for the USA..... I'll say it again....if this was a cell phone manufacture they would be closing the doors today....no one would ever touch their product again.
  10. Very nice work!!!!!!!! I hated the car when I was a kid....now I'd own one....funny how things change!
  11. Per GM at the Fed hearing today the Recall for this year alone has now crossed the 20 million mark.....WOW!!!!! Not beating anything...just a correction!!!!
  12. To be honest we should all be very thankful for what we are getting......FANTASTIC stuff......these guys paying the bills could make more money doing something a lot less stressful and easier.......
  13. I was trying to make a point that while all makers have recalls......it boils down to the severity and possible end result of the failure that makes the GM situation so horrible. BTW.....none of the recalled Fit springs were broken....not per the mechanic that did mine....it was the fact they COULD....again very different than the GM issue. BINGO!!!!
  14. Recalls alone do not tell the whole story. Even GM admits MANY deaths associated with it's recalls. My Honda recall was a spring in the VTEC system IF IT HAD failed would reduce HP by 10-15 but not a SINGLE death or even real world failure was recorded. The spring failed in the lab....very different situation......
  15. I get that........and why I took my Honda to a dealership in Ohio that had done over 100 recalls on the Fits before mine. The guy they had was doing it in half the time Honda said it would take. But when you start talking about almost 18 million cars over the 40,000 Honda had to fix.......15 minutes each is mind boggling.....
  16. A Smart 451 has different size tires on the back than on the front axle. Also they are uni directional. So which spare would you carry?? Miss it until you need it....yep....it happens.......but when we hit road debris in NC and destroyed a tire.....we had a roll back on site in a few minutes.....we were down about 2.5 hours....but what would have happened if we were driving a current Vette???? No spare there either. And while we do use our Smart as a road car....they are intended as a city car.....theory being help is always near.....
  17. How are they going to supply the parts to fix them all.....but a bigger question may be the man hours needed to fix them all.......you can only get some many hours a day from a mechanic. A truly sad state for a one time great American corp..........
  18. My Smart 451 has four different tires......so like the Vette no spare or room for one! It does have a jack, tire sealer and a air pump on board!
  19. Saturn's are a real GM anomaly.......some outside the box engineering was done on those cars. The spin on trans filter on many models was a FANTASTIC idea!!! Not a hater but I think Saturn, as it was started, was too good for GM.
  20. I know better than jump in here......... Per the inflation calculator a kit today vs a kit produced in 1965 should cost $15. OK....that's still less than MSRP today. AMT could sell 700,000 1965 Mustang kits and not advertise or promote at all. Add to that Ford had payed for the 1965 Mustang molds via the promos etc. Raw materials have gone up more than the rate of inflation. Otherwise gas should be $2 a gallon....see.......???? In 1965 there were a lot more model builders......I didn't know a single kid that Didn't build..... And most of us had a hobby shop nearby. Today...... Add licensing fees paid to the manufactures in place of payments from auto manufactures. Greatly decrease the number of stores carrying your product. Greatly decrease the number of model builders. A kit sells a lot less than those 700,000 Mustangs or even 1.5 million Dukes Chargers.....Sold today??? I'll stay away from that one. See where we are going??? Do the math....it's easy to see. Want a hobby that's expensive??? Come on over to O scale 3 rail trains with me!!!! Lionel's new UP Big Boy retails $2200.00 IF you can get one.
  21. 'LISTS' of good and bad are always suspect....I rely on purely independent reports....and NONE of them are produced by the US government!!!! Also....to keep your arguments, pro and con, relevant and viable.....lets refer to product produced in THIS century and not LAST century.
  22. Same here.....Dad has a FLEX with the twin turbo V-6....and you are right....scary fast!!!
  23. I was not impressed with photos of the 15......then changed greatly after seeing and touching one at the 50TH Mustang show in Charlotte.....much different. The back window looks like it could drop into my 1966 2+2 Mustang!! Tulip panel too!
  24. Every auto maker has had issues......these are machines,,,,,, The size, scope, magnitude and attitude at GM is what makes this one so different....... 14 Million cars recalled in 160 days.......gotta be a record. The number is hard to even imagine.....
