Drooling over the new Mustang...

My Smart 451 has four different tires......so like the Vette no spare or room for one! It does have a jack, tire sealer and a air pump on board! -
Will GM's problems ever end?
Dave Van replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saturn's are a real GM anomaly.......some outside the box engineering was done on those cars. The spin on trans filter on many models was a FANTASTIC idea!!! Not a hater but I think Saturn, as it was started, was too good for GM. -
So why has the price of model kits gone up?
Dave Van replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know better than jump in here......... Per the inflation calculator a kit today vs a kit produced in 1965 should cost $15. OK....that's still less than MSRP today. AMT could sell 700,000 1965 Mustang kits and not advertise or promote at all. Add to that Ford had payed for the 1965 Mustang molds via the promos etc. Raw materials have gone up more than the rate of inflation. Otherwise gas should be $2 a gallon....see.......???? In 1965 there were a lot more model builders......I didn't know a single kid that Didn't build..... And most of us had a hobby shop nearby. Today...... Add licensing fees paid to the manufactures in place of payments from auto manufactures. Greatly decrease the number of stores carrying your product. Greatly decrease the number of model builders. A kit sells a lot less than those 700,000 Mustangs or even 1.5 million Dukes Chargers.....Sold today??? I'll stay away from that one. See where we are going??? Do the math....it's easy to see. Want a hobby that's expensive??? Come on over to O scale 3 rail trains with me!!!! Lionel's new UP Big Boy retails $2200.00 IF you can get one. -

'LISTS' of good and bad are always suspect....I rely on purely independent reports....and NONE of them are produced by the US government!!!! Also....to keep your arguments, pro and con, relevant and viable.....lets refer to product produced in THIS century and not LAST century. -

I was not impressed with photos of the 15......then changed greatly after seeing and touching one at the 50TH Mustang show in Charlotte.....much different. The back window looks like it could drop into my 1966 2+2 Mustang!! Tulip panel too! -

Every auto maker has had issues......these are machines,,,,,, The size, scope, magnitude and attitude at GM is what makes this one so different....... 14 Million cars recalled in 160 days.......gotta be a record. The number is hard to even imagine..... -

The reason for the failure was studied at great length by one of the news agency's. The issue was a locking pin in the tumbler. GM choose a short pin switch that was ONE CENT less than a long pin version. -

Ford says a sun roof does not work correctly with the geometry of the Mustang roof.....at least not long term....I tend to agree too.....The double curve would be hard to engineer and keep working right for years. And I don't like 'em anyways! -

My son and I saw the real thing at the Mustang 50th show at Charlotte Motor Speedway in April. Both the 14 and 15 Mustangs are tough! Selling my 68 coupe.......not sure if we buy a replacement or not! My son's Bullet..... 2015 GT first time in public -

YEP!!!! My wife had a brand new Ford Tempo in 1984........pure trash. Transmission issues, AC issues....etc...... BUT.....Dad's 2012 FLEX is flawless, carries 7 plus luggage, and drives like a giant exotic car. The twin turbo motor is UNREAL. Dad traded his Chevy Tahoe in on the Ford. It was an OK vehicle......bad had many many little issues. More wiper shear pins than I care to count. It was a 2005 and needed a new washer fluid bottle EVERY spring. (it would just split in two!) Cruise control almost never worked....just a series of nagging issues that to me shows a corp mindset. -

Until one of those recalled GM's left turns in front of you and stalls!!! I have two cars that are good and paid for. We looked at a 2014 Mustang as it's just me and the wife at home....we loved it....just didn't want to spend the $450 a month!! Rather put that much in my 66 Mustang 2+2! -

I bet if one manufactures cell phones had 14 million recalls and they all had to be sent back to the factory to be reset.....that company would be out of business the next day........but consumers today are not a smart lot. Dad has a 1012 FLEX....top of the line. Only issue??? A squirrel ate some of his under hood insulation!!! It's all wheel drive with 22" wheels with twin turbo's.......The first time I drove it I was truly shocked...... It was the best vehicle I had ever driven. A seven passenger plus luggage hot rod......wow! -

Yep.....My near perfect Honda Fit had a recall....... Let me tell a story that will show the difference. It was an internal recal....no FORCED government issue. It was a spring in the VTEC system that could break......and if it did you MIGHT loose 10-15 HP. I took it to the largest Honda dealer in Ohio....one very close to the Honda factory. The guy that did the recall on mine had already performed the recall on over 100 Fit's. My spring was fine...but replaced free. I asked him if ANY springs on the 100 plus cars had failed. NOPE....not one. But Honda's internal test showed it MIGHT break after 200,000 or so miles. THAT is the difference in a common recall and what is going on at GM now! -

14 million recalls THIS YEAR!!!!! NO EXCUSE.......I have not owned a lot of GM products....but never another for sure. BTW....my 82 Z28 was flawless......they DID know how to do it. -

OK.....I'm old enough to have done similar work with 8mm film!!! So how do you do it today with electronic video??? I might have to try again myself! Cool -
This is just ridiculous!
Dave Van replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You laugh....... Back in my college days.....not saying when but the Mustang II was a new car at the time...... I had a creative writing class......I had to write a short story. I like cars and Sci Fi. I wrote about a cop in 2020 that his personal car was a 70 Mustang. It was part of his intimidation MO....... But it was electric powered with a sound system that made it sound like it still had a BOSS 429!!! It was part of his image. Maybe Audi read it. -
Pretty good deal......but I use Dupli-color and I am lucky my local dept store carries it a $3.99 a can. Just went yesterday and bought 3 cans...they were out of white...but lady said she ordered some......I may be their biggest customer here in the backwoods!!! I have gotten good deals on Dupli-color spray cans of factory colors of Amazon.

Google Self-Driving Car..

It will happen......folks get dumber everyday.......Much more concerned about 'Dancing with the Stars' or The Bachelorette than anything that may deeply impact their lives. Ask a fifteen year old today if they'd rather drive a car or be driven around while they play on their phones......I bet I know the answer..... -
Ahhhh.......My best buddy's Dad raced a Hudson also. He now owns 5 of the best Hudson's on the planet. His 37 Terraplane pick up was in the Peterson museum's recent 'Art of the pick up' as the center piece. I get to ride in some fantastic Hudsons and can learn from one of the true experts. Riding in the back of a 50 Hudson convertible around So Cal.....hard to beat!!! Take my word.....the Moebius drag Hudson will be a VERY nice kit.......more will be shown when appropriate!!!.
