Moebius 1946/7/8 Chevy Announcements
Dave Van replied to Erik Solie's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Good news for sure.....But seems we are at the point the normal kit price will be $50. Never did that kid, who talked his Mom into a $1 JoHan kit at the SoCal local Pic N Pay, ever think kits would be 50 times that!!! -
I was working with Monogram when thy did that body. One of the very few that Bob Johnson did not design. The first test shot was horrible and I made a lot of suggestions. The really big items they fix....but not all of them. It looks like you may have fixed the issue at the base of the A pillar....for others, The A pillar flares out as if there is a mirror there. That can be sanded smooth and look much better. Also the rivets around the C pillar window need to be sanded off. those are the easy ones. Great looking build!!! You might be able to see thinned A pillar here....flush with door and flat going up. Sorry to break into your build. Just a FYI

Gotta agree with the auto press....... Looks like Buc-kee's did the design.....Beaver edition. -
I had some decals made by STS last Oct, not cheap but VERY GOOD printing.

50th Anniversary this week for me.........
Dave Van replied to Dave Van's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
WOW WOW!!! I did in fact go down and see the real Elinor Mustang. Even got to touch her. But that was not the highlight that week. Next day my buddies and I stop at a Shell station on Independence at Idlewild for gas. Who pulls into the station?? HB Halicki in a P/U towing Elinor!!!! The one time in my life I wish we had cell phones back then!!! We got to talk for a few minutes....a nice guy. My brush with fame and why I am a Gone fan..... Thanks for digging that up! -
50th Anniversary this week for me.........
Dave Van replied to Dave Van's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Thanks all for the comments. The resto shop screwing me over did have a happy ending. While they took my money and did super poor work (they had bailed on their auto shop and went into real estate speculation....were they lost their shirts). It forced me to redo the car top to bottom myself. After some health issues I did not think I could do it......but I found out I could push myself to do it.....and now she is all my work. VERY satisfying, more so than a paid shop. So while I lost a lot of money, lost in court to them.....I got a personal win.......much more valuable!! Again thanks!!! -
50 years ago this week I found my 66 Mustang on the Young Ford used lot in Charlotte NC.. I saw a newspaper ad by Young Ford for cars on their used lot. Two Mustangs were listed, a 71 fastback and my 66. The 71 was a 6 cyl 3 spd base model. My 66 had a 289 4 spd. The 71 was a better car overall, like new.....but V8 wins out!! The 66 was my daily driver until 1985 when the clutch went out and I decided to do a full restore. I had no idea of the time or cost so she sat not running until 2018 when we had to sell her or fix her. We went with fix. Like 99.999% of car restoration stories go...it was not easy. It involved a well known car resto shop, the courts and us paying a few times to get the same thing done. But in FEB 2019 she was 99% complete and we took her to the 55th Mustang show in Charlotte. Been a long great ride!!! Thanks 2019 55th Mustang show and about one year after I bought her.

Round window Taurus
Dave Van replied to lordairgtar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a detailed post about the AM Taurus kit. Long story short the kit was designed by Bob Johnson who did the majority of Monogram NASCAR kits. The kit was never produced and sold in any numbers. My brother in law worked at AM, as did I part time. When they closed I was given a large tub of Taurus kits. IMHO only I doubt the tooling is still around. The tooling was shopped to a number of companies and there was no interest. https://public.fotki.com/DaveVan51/accurate-miniatures/ -

What's with the U.S.Post office these days?

I have a new USPS horror story.....anew LOW!!!!! I order my refill on Meds, they ship from Cinncy 300 miles door to door. JAN 12 2025 A few days later package is in Charleston WV. GOOD I get it next day if things go right. Well.....it sits therefor a few days...OK Claim weather delay but my daughter lives near postal sort center and she is getting around fine in her mini van!?!??! Then the package goes on vacation. Next it's in Indy, sits for a few days. OK Next up some skiing in Denver CO. Sits a few more days. Package REALLY liked Indy so a few days there again....... NO ETA and I have one day of meds left. I hate the USPS................ -
The NASCAR Cup rule at the time was the race car had to have the same TYPE of suspension at each corner. IE the factory car had leaf rear race car must have leaf. Factory car had rear coils, race car must have coils. But the GM truck arms were used on cars like 76 Ford Torino too as it had coils rear. The Dodges of the era had to run torsion bar front even though it was altered from production. This was the start of the full race car chassis that had nothing to do with the production car.. thx

Another Example of Ineptitude by the USPS
Dave Van replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I have 3 packages sitting at the regional sorting center since LAST Sunday. With my inside connections I now have I had them checked on. Because we have had snow the sort center does the very least and slaps a 'Weather Delay' on what they do not process. If I did that in my job I'd been gone...... -
Good start!!! I was one of the folks that worked on those MPC reissues by Model King. I have a Fotki that has a few tips on these kits..... https://public.fotki.com/DaveVan51/model-king-stocker-/ These are box stock builds to show what can be done. I did add a few roll bars with tube stock, nothing major.
