  1. Thanks Misha - The Sam Barris and Hirohata Mercs were poster cars. I also built the Mike O'Neil black 32 3W Coupe which was the first poster car and the Dennis Kyle orange Hi-Boy Deuce which was never featured in RJ.
  2. Thanks Larry Thanks Hector Thanks Claude
  3. A fantastic looking replica from a great era of drag racing.
  4. Very well built replica of a great subject of drag racing history.
  5. Thanks Brian Thanks David. My first attempt was with Mr.Color clear red over gold. It looked good but not Candy Apple Red. Thanks James
  6. Yes the Alclad is transparent. I hope I have enough to paint a Mazmanian 63 Corvette and if so will clear coat. I still have to try Hours of Color Candy Apple Red but so far Alclad has come the closest to the look. Currently I think Mazda has the best Candy Apple Red.
  7. I took some more photos under different lighting. The first ones are outdoors in bright sunshine and there may have been some reflection in the paint.
  8. Thanks Bob - I have been watching your build. Looking forward to seeing it Under Glass
  9. As a kid I was very attracted to the beautiful cars of “BIG” John Mazmanian that were featured in the car magazines. This attraction started with his 1960 Corvette drag car, followed by his mildly customized ’63 Corvette Split-Window and finally his most famous car – the ‘41 Willys Gasser. All were Candy Apple Red with polished wheels. Back in 2005 I built a model of the ’60 Corvette and have had plans to do the ’63 Stingray for many years. For my latest project I have built a model of the Willys Gasser as part of a series of Rodder’s Journal Poster Cars. The real car no longer exists with the poster car being a gorgeous tribute differing in some ways from the original. My model was built almost directly from the box with no modifications and very few additions but it still was a fun and satisfying build. Over the years I acquired six Revell Willys kits – three Gassers and three Street-Rods. Previously I had only built one of those as a Custom. Chassis parts from the Street Rods have found their way under various projects as has the blown HEMI. PAINT - Alclad Candy Apple Red Enamel over Tamiya Gold. In retrospect even though it looked like it did not need it. Alclad is kind of fragile and should be clear coated. The photo make it look like the is metal flake or orange peel but there is no indication to the eye DECALS – Combination of kit supplied and Slixx ADDITIONS – Passenger seat, seat belts, red film for side windows, hood hold down latches from the old Revell Stone-Woods-Cook Willys
  10. I really like your project and look forward to its completion as I have never seen a full detail Chezoom model. No matter what some people may feel about Boyd as a person there were some incredible cars that came out of his shop that deserve a prominent place in rod & custom and model car history.
  11. WOW Lil John himself would be impressed with what you have accomplished so far.
  12. This is going to be one fantastic looking UTE.
  13. Fantastic to see this one completed. It looks fabulous.
  14. I am really glad I decided to get this kit for its unique quirkiness and subject matter and I actually plan to eventually build a model of the movie car using many of the parts that come with this kit but I will be using the body and some other parts from the AMT kit to produce a more authentic replica. That being said a very attractive model can be built directly from the GTM kit.
  15. UPDATE - I finally got my hands on the kit so here a few observations - Great looking packaging although box opens at the ends European style - Box has a CS Official Licensed Product sticker although no where does the word Cobra appear [CS = Carroll Shelby] - Instructions from Academy kit - Everything nicely packaged separately - Chrome sprue has pretty good looking wirewheels with wider rears so not the AMT wheels - Parts are molded in grey plastic - The body is exactly like the Academy body with oil cooler in place. There are separate pieces provided to blank off the side exhaust outlets - There are two sets of tires. One set is no name big and littles. The other set are Goodyear Polyglas - What would have been the chrome sprue in the Academy kit is not chromed in this kit - Parts are not provided for the rear exiting exhaust
  16. Awesome Deuce Coupe - Hope you can bring it and some of your other model cars to Deuce Days in Scale next summer in Victoria
  17. Lookin great Russ
  18. I did not get close enough to confirm but Mercury pickups were very popular in the these parts so could well be. I have a friend with a gorgeous 51 Mercury one ton stock except for a C-10 5-speed and a polished wood pick up bed. Initially it was a work truck when he built a log cabin 40 years ago.
  19. Very cool photo Steve could be from a Route 66 episode !!
  20. Right you are. I was thinking it had a close resemblance to my parents 62 Ford but after googling I now remember the 62 Mercs recessed bullet taillights
  21. Lake Country Okanagan Valley BC Canada A really nice 56 F100 with a 49 F1, an early 60s Styleside and a 61 Mercury in a pastoral settinggan
  22. Great project. I have been wanting to use one of those chassises under something. It sure gives the slant-back a great stance and the exhaust exits really look good. Green and red are a great combo.
  23. Very well built. Going to have to build mine someday.
