  1. Not necessarily so Harry. Where I come from the police pension system is a stand alone entity. The city was required to contribute a certain amount if it was deemed they could. The city hasn't contributed in nearly 20 years as they continually cite "financial hardship". All my retirement bennies come from mine and other members contributions. The St Louis Police Retirement System is one of the main reasons a person joins the department. 20 and out baby. Not sure how Phoenix is organized but you see my point here. Dismassal from the department is a complicated process. As in any case, deals are offered to alleviate the drain in manpower or finances. I'm sure his POST certification is revoked, as it should be, preventing any other employment in the field. Big picture here, how much will it cost to: a. Prosecute in the court system. b. Conduct a full blown IAD investigation. c. Conduct depositions, hearings, and meetings. d. Terminate the sergreant without a pension. It is truly cheaper for the city to let this guy go with his pension than drag it out for years in a criminal, and later civil, action. I have no sympathy for the guy, but lets be honest. Should his family suffer due to his inexcusable actions? G
  2. I feel your pain. Same thing happened here three weeks ago. G
  3. What he said. 25 years ago, a captain from my department was caught stealing a package of steaks from a grocery store. The guy was on the fast track to chief for goodness sakes. G
  4. I knew the Lee sisters, Ug, Beast and Home. I married their cousin Ghast................she was #3. G
  5. I told a co-worker that I'm so old I remember when men were iron, ships were wood and Jesus was a watch commander on the north side. G
  6. Well you are from the "show me state". Guess it showed you, huh? Glad you pulled through and good luck with the new lifestyle. G
  7. Actually, no. BAG is a prefix used by the Az DMV in Maricopa county as are BAD, BAS, and a few others. Harry each state has it's own definition of height. I do believe there is a minimum required federally though. G
  8. That "machine shop smell" of a warship while underway. G
  9. Common sense and safety go hand in hand. If 60%-80% of the traffic is flowing well at just above, or a bit above, the posted limit, there is no need to do anything but monitor for those drivers I mentioned previously. Your average driver is so easily distracted anyway why add to it? Conducting car stops is risky anytime but during high volumn times, it's down right life threatening. I 15 in Utah has a 80mph limit in certain areas. I've driven that comfortably at 90, but could see where much more is a hazard. G
  10. Whether it's a freeway or multi lane main road, city street or simple country lane the posted speed limit is the same for all lanes. "Slower traffic" refers to those motor vehicles travelling under the posted speed limit. That said, the majority of traffic enforcement officers allow for some "leeway" in how this applies. A string of cars travelling together, on the freeway, above the legal limit here is referred to as "going with the flow". The unofficial rule of thumb is a maximum of 15 mph over the posted limit before a stop is conducted. Now if I see someone travelling faster, changing lanes repeatedly and generally acting like an azz, well they get pulled over. That's not to mention applying make up, texting, eating a four course meal, etc etc etc. That thinking gives someone the opportunity to drive just under 90mph out in the rural areas of Nevada. Given the winding nature of some of our western roads, that's plenty fast enough for me. *one disclaimer* The above only applies to southern Nevada and those state police officers assigned there. Your mileage may vary, a lot. G

    Now that's nice! G
  12. Yes they did! Most went north where the sun wasn't in such abundance, thus turning the trooper into a baked potato. I have seen old photos of these down in my neck of the woods too. G
  13. X2! NHP actually used these. They were blue with silver roofs and doors. G
  14. Bad monsoon season this year for sure. Southern Nevada has been at 100+ all week, but with low humidity. Thunder storms sprig up in the late afternoon/ early evening here lately. 102 and dry today, been in the 70's at night. G
  15. What he said. Normally I am a big fan of body color trim but I like the look of black side trim on this. G
  16. Phoenix and Las Vegas are located in valleys. Large expansive valleys that were once inland seas. The runoff naturally gathers in these areas as it has for millenia. Man encroached upon these areas and naturally felt he could overcome Mother Nature. Vegas receives 4-5 inches of rainfall a year, trouble is it all happens in about one week. Phoenix got that in one HOUR the other day. The water literally has nowhere to go. G
  17. Danno that storm system keeps getting stalled right over you. The northern edge gets to Kingman or Bullhead and just stops. We get massive cloud formations, high humidity and no rain. I keep trying to take some of that off your hands brother, but Mother Nature always liked you best. Congrats Harry! I refinanced two years ago. Best thing to happen in this decade so far! G
  18. I have the entire day off with nothing to do. G
  19. That is a good looking Stuka. Finishing a troublesome build has it's own rewards and when it turns out like that, well congratulations! Danny that is one sinister looking spacecraft. I really like what you did with the metal tones. Photographing our work lets us see all the little errors and miscues. Sometimes I see so much wrong I wonder why I even bother . I'm calling King Kong finished. G
  20. Us too, but like Danno said above................................ G
  21. Oldest car I ever drove back then was a 1948 Plymouth "Special Deluxe" business coupe. That'sthe car I learned to drive a manual transmission in. I co-owned it with a friend. G
  22. I'm glad she's doing well. Send her some love from Las Vegas will ya? Also, never try to guess "why". A co-worker was shot several times in a high risk car stop. We got him to City Hospital #1 asap but didn't really think he was going to make it. Here comes this young blonde German lovely into the ER. Thick accent and all she does her thing, stabilizes him and goes into surgery. Ray retired 10 years later with 25 years on the job. Turns out this princess had been with the Israeli Army and interned in hell. Gunshot wound? Meh................. Why? Who cares? She was where she need to be when the time called for it.
