  1. Like everyone else says, I woke up this morning on the right side of the dirt. My weeks from hell have ended and I'm on vacation. The grandchildren will be here day after tomorrow and the fun shall begin. Can you say modelbuilding ?
  2. Tamiya primer is compatible with nearly everything. G
  3. I began building at age seven thanks to my mother and father. In the nearly 50 years since, the only time I have stopped is when I was on active duty. The proliferation of new kits, paints, aftermarket supplies and most of all the internet has kept me enthusied during my life. Knowing there are folks like me out there and that we can see and share our work on a screen is a huge asset to me and the hobby. Stereo type? I'm right there with y'a'll. G
  4. Exquisite! G
  5. 113 here yesterday, 112 today and my home AC decides to puke. Thank goodness for warranties and regular maintainance. New unit installed tomorrow. Lovely, glad I got a raise. G
  6. Have mom go to a Sally's Beauty Supply and purchase several nail sanding boards. They come in all grits from super coarse to extra fine. While there have her get a few foam sanding blocks as well. Very useful in bodywork. Look at some of the tools as well. Tweezers are a must, several different types of tweezers will be beneficial. By not concentrating on just hobby paint you have a larger field to choose from. You will still want a few bottles of paint for those detail jobs. Michaels and Hobby Lobby are fine for brushes right now. Home Depot Lowes and the like are good sources for laquer thinner and enamel thinners. There's a Hobby Town USA in Carson City and a Hobby Lobby in Reno. I know that your age is a challenge and that's a bit of a drive, I've worked in Carson City before, but if your parents see you are interested and responsible enough then a family road trip could be the thing. G
  7. That's because the victims buried there prevented grass from growing......................... G
  8. Looking good so far! Last time I did a rod in a similar color I used Krylon "Almond" for the engine. It provided just enough change to make the engine stand out. G
  9. I love 'em both! G
  10. I've heard of the troubles, still it'd be great being closer to family. It is sunny here ! A major weather event most times is a cloud. It's a bit more expensive living here in some areas, cheaper in others. No state taxes at all, but DMV registration fees are astronomical. Car insurance is off the chain high. Real estate is expensive in the metro areas, cheaper in outlying regions. If you don't gamble you can do just fine living here after the initial shock of home prices. G
  11. Very nice. G
  12. It's the old Tamiya "African" Tiger I. I bought it for next to nothing so I splurged on Fruill tracks, an Eduard full PE set and began scratchbuilding various items as well as AM decals. I intend to model Tiger # 131 of sPzAbt 504 that was captured in Tunisia in April 1943. #131 is still around has been restored to running condition. http://www.tiger-tank.com/ This I intend as a long term build due to all the aftermarket details. I have two more Tamiya Shermans enroute courtesy of fleabay that I intend on building using old Verlinden resin conversion kits. The Verlinden set will converty the tanks to the period correct M4A2 used by the USMC in the Pacific. Love those jarhead tanks! G
  13. Anybody interested in a Tiger tank used in Tunisia? G
  14. And the big question, do you make motor noises whilst playing with said model? G
  15. All my family is from either Cleveland or Columbus. Two cousins were Cleveland cops and one was a cop in Aurora. Cleveland PD was considered in my job search way back when but they paid pretty bad. I'm an Ohio State alum so I call Columbus my second home. Nowadays I wouldn't hesitate to move to Cuyahoga or Lake County. G
  16. I like what you did with this except for one thing. The mold seams coming down from above the doors and across the rear fenders really stand out. G
  17. The museum is very nice! I love the history on display. "Not a toy store" Now that is a close minded, ignorant comment if I ever heard one. Dumazz......................... G
  18. Erik, I drove every year of that body style except '92. I truly loved those cars. G
  19. I currently have nine Revell Chevrolet Caprice Police/FireChief kits at the house. I have built another seven or eight which are in my police academy display back in St Louis. That does not include the seven Revell Impala SS kits I used for the 93 - 96 version of the 9C1 Caprice. G
  20. I firmly believe there should be a stipulation for car rental here that says you are not allowed to drive until your third visit. I have literally seen tourists stop dead on the strip mesmerized by the lights. I watched a bicycle cop ride up to one of the fascinated folks and beat on the fender as the driver caused a traffic jam several blocks long, on a Saturday, in the evening. G
  21. RIP Molly, see you on the other side. Welcome to your forever home Ernie! G
