Jason that is an interesting vehicle for sure! I like where you are going with this. Joe don't ya just hate pin marks? The Stuka is looking good. Here's some quickie pics of the paint job so far. Tamiya OD base. The unique camo applied to the turret. The plywood armor. All the detail painting so far is Vallejo with a smattering of oils. G

Dale, congratulations on the retirement. There are a lot of good people building superb models in the Phoenix area so be sure to check it out if that's anywhere close to you now. I travel there at least twice a year. G

His performance in "Good Morning Vietnam" was so brilliant on so many levels it defies description. Pete you are so correct, he portrayed the absurdity of the situation there in a way that everyone could relate to. That movie brought it home for me in a way "Full Metal Jacket" or "The Boys in Company C" never did. G

And we think that any of the talking heads on any of the networks have any background or experience in making this determination? G -
Oh heck yes! That is just perfect. G

Remembering back when...

My first car was a '62 Pontiac Catalina 421SD. Bought it in 1972 for $850. No one really "knew" what it was. Won a lot of burger meals at the local Steak n Shake racing that beast. Wish I had that one now, I wouldn't drive it much though. I too had a Mustang if only briefly. It was a '68 that looked and ran great. Lot of those in and around St Louis. We had Chevrolet, Ford and Chrysler plants in the immediate area back then. Big mishmash of autos on the streets. My first real girlfriend had a '62 Imperial. Now that was a boat, the car was bigger than my first apartment. My first wife had a '72 Grand Torino Sport her father bought her. Beautiful car, but the goofball couldn't drive it more than a mile without getting a ticket. I drove it until I shipped out in '74. Now that's one I wish I had for sure. G -
Just quoting an oft heard phrase from back in the day. I am a life long Deadhead and realize what Phish was, as well as what it was not. I for one love the new avatar. G

The long long work week is behind me now and we are moving forward on King Kong. She's sitting in primer as we speak. Here are some pre primer shots of the build. Additional research and some big help from a member on another site revealed the front panels on this were actually plywood, used to thwart magnetic mines. They will be painted accordingly. G

Oh heck yeah! Take a walk in the woods, sit on a hill and watch a movie from across the lot. If it were crowded enough at least one car on that side had the speaker loud enough for me. G

Jerry's dead, Phish sucks, get over it. It wasn't the same. G

Model Building Stereotypes

I like this very much. It's a good clean build. If you want I can PM you some tips to try on the next one. G

In my career we buried nine officers killed in the line of duty. Another ten officers took their own lives, as did two Medics. Three, including my best friend, were killed in off duty accidents. One, a decorated SWAT commander fell off his roof, my girl had a tractor roll over on her at her farm, the third drowned. It is never easy. G

The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive
Agent G replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All I'm saying is that "one in a million" set of circumstances had a positive outcome for my friend because of what she was driving. That's enough for me. And no I'd never own one of those "things". G -
Now that is badazz! G

The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive
Agent G replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Two weeks ago the Hummer H2 vindicated itself quite well. My co workers wife, Martha, was in hers, stopped in traffic on the 15 nothbound at Sahara. FYI that's the biggest parking lot in southern Nevada bar none. Out of no where some impatient, "you know what", driving like a mad man passes lines of traffic on the shoulder, swerves to avoid a NDOT truck and creates a massive accident. The "you know what's" vehicle rolls up and over the hood of Martha's H2 coming to rest upside down in font of her. Unfortunately the "you know what's" passenger expired at the scene. The H2 also got rear ended by a semi in the process. Martha walked away with a sore neck. G -
Here's a little update on "King Kong". There are some period photos of this tank on Saipan. I was able to find a few of them and used the images to replicate the added on armor plate and wood planks. It's hard to tell but it looks like the crew took sheetmetal and welded it to angle iron on the front slope. I used some .030 sheet to replicate the five planks bolted to the sponson sides. I attached the wading trunk lower piece as well. More to come! G

Model Master Acrylics are pretty thin from the bottle. Trouble is, by not learning all the aspects of the wonderful world of airbrushing, especially the proper thinning of paints, you might as well stay with rattle cans. Gabriel has the best advice, get some paint, get some reducer, then spray away at a piece of paper. G

Photoshopped models

Playboy has done this with their models for decades now........................................ G -
Jules the cars are looking superb. Alberto has the knowledge you need for the LASD and my current partner is retired LAPD. Ask any question and we will find the answer. Alberto we were expressly forbidden from placing the mic in that position. Not really sure why, so I clipped mine to a homemade leather "drop" through which the epaulette passed. Danno I was going to say that huge Motorola was a real bear to lug around on calls. When we got the first of the portable radios there was one assigned to each car. The officer driving didn't carry it, the passenger officer did. I mostly drove as my sergeant didn't like my partner's driving. He, in turn, always forgot he had the portable. Missed a few radio calls we did. G

Good looking car Jonathan. Harry I have searched and searched but have found no definitive answer. I will email some of my Japanese counterparts and see what they say. G
