What did you see on the road today?
Agent G replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Whie over Orange '57 Chevrolet 4 door. Couldn't see all of it but it had Bel Air trim. G -
Lindbergh had a retractable periscope but it was useless. He did like every other pilot of the day, he looked out the side window. The Corsair initially proved to be a handful during carrier ops and the brass felt deploying her was tempting fate. Most pilots figured this out long before and the Corsair was really acceptable for carrier ops. The massive amounts of torque took a lot of getting used to. The fix was rather simple really, look at the front on shot posted above. See that little rectangle on the right wing (to the left in the photo) just outboard of the gun openings? That is a "spoiler" that allows the right wing to stall at the same time as the left thus allowing for level flight during landing. Ultimately it was maintanence issues and spare parts which kept the Corsair off the ships for a year and a half. The Navy had it's first land based Corsair squadron with VF 17, the "Jolly Rogers". They were one of the the squadrons that initially took the Corsair to sea on carrier trials. They liked the plane and it showed. G

In the private sector I see that occurring. In public service, police, fire, ems etc. bouncing around really makes no sense. Why uproot yourself to go and do the same S#!^ in a different place especially when there's no increase in benefits? G

Work ethic and the concept of instant gratification. I began a career in the PD with the thought in mind that I was there until I could retire. That's what we did then. You left only to better yourself and your family, regardless if that meant leaving for another department or leaving the profession altogether. Young coppers now don't see it that way. I simply do not understand the concept of bouncing around from agency to agency looking for "a good fit". These kids now never stay one place long enough to be vested. I personally would be suspicious of a resume' listing several different LEO jobs before the age of 40. Where is the long term planning? Why can't this kid stay anywhere and is always looking for something else? Why should I hire a person who may leave within a few years? It's no secret here that after marriage #3 ended I was going to leave the GCB. No sense in staying in what I would describe as a "toxic" enviornment. Heck, for the last 5 years I've been looking. Ultimately I decided I liked what I was doing and that straight retirement wasn't for me. The new MrsG said she was comfortable with my job as it is and didn't want me to quit just to quit. I stuck it out, a new administration came in and I got promoted. Holy Carp. G

Some would say "talentless hack" but that's on another site.........LOL! I'm going to attempt another build, this time I'm starting with the Revell (Monogram) reissue of the ancient M3 Lee. The kit looks pretty good for it's age so I think I'll try to snazz her up without any aftermarket, just good old scratch built details. What say folks? This could take a while due to my new schedule.. G

Let me put this in another way. I conduct an intensive months long investigation into an "arson for profit" case. Evidence points to a hand set fire of dubious origin. Bottom line, that fire should not have started where it did in the way it did. Now combine that with a history of suspicious fires at previous businesses and you have "reasonable suspicion" for arson for profit. The criminal investigation stalls for a variety of reasons. Mainly there is lack of evidence pointing to the actual fire setter, or no "probable cause" to arrest a suspect. Now you have the insurance claim, this is the motive for the fire in the first place. REMEMBER this is civil litigation. The threshhold for "proof" if you will, is lower. Take what is not adequate enough for criminal prosecution and use it deny a large claim in civil court. Folks this is a win. By denying the claim YOUR money is saved, my money is saved and our rates can be prevented from skyrocketing. Harry by your argument the owner should be awarded the large claim. Guess where our rates would be now if we didn't have civil litigation? G

View from my office. What does everyone else do all day?
Agent G replied to freakshow12's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It was quite the city at the turn of the century. Motorcycles were considered a prime form of transportation then. Autos still hadn't quite caught on with the masses although by the 20's old Henry had done quite a lot to change that. G -
Tamiya Parts Replacement
Agent G replied to Danger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I began thinking about the vast amount of kits produced by Tamiya. The fact only a handful of us ever had an issue (I never had) speaks volumes. I chuckled to myself when I realized that it took a massive tsunami and impending nuclear meltdown to finally cause a short shot at the big "T" plant. G -

Sounds like a toast we had in the officers mess. "To our wives and the women we love. May they never meet." Marriage is great. I've done it four times now...................... G

"Now, notice how in the count room nobody ever seems to see anything. Somehow, somebody's always lookin' the other way. Now, look at these guys. They look busy, right? They're countin' money. Who wants to bother them? I mean, God forbid they should make a mistake and forget to steal." G
