Builders Slump
redscampi replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Modeling is a diversion from other things in my life instead of the other way around, so a slump for me is being busy with the myriad minutia that keep me away from the bench. That makes modeling particularly rewarding when I do get back to it. Focusing on it too much waters down the enjoyment. -
Chopped, full-fendered '34 Ford 3-window AMT/Monogram mashup
redscampi replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I think that their target audience was just not that picky when these were originally tooled. Today's modeler is more experienced (old?) and has access to much better and much more reference material. For that matter, why were 1970's American 1:1 cars so poorly built? I just don't think most people knew any better. -
68-72 Suburban scratch build

Avidly watching this build as I will be attempting something similar at some point. -
Well...it is 05:00 in the morning...maybe after they've had some coffee. (joking)

Oh, OK, thanks. I assumed the letters on the bumper were actually engraved.

OK, apart from the fact that this whole diorama is amazing, how did you make or acquire that bumper? Oldsmobile is dead. Long live Oldsmobile!

I used to think T-birds were chick cars when I was younger. Seeing customs like this changed my mind. That, and I'm old enough not to care what anyone else thinks any more.

A HOT ROD MODERN TRUCK
redscampi replied to mrm's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice! How did you mask the flames? You've practically built an entire well thought out model in the time it takes me to decide which pants to wear. -
The new interior looks much more "real world". I could imagine seeing vinyl that color on a 1:1 car. Nice job!

Show us your summer toys! (Non-auto related)
redscampi replied to atomicholiday's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
This sure brings back memories. 30 years ago I had a nearly mint 1971 CB750 Four. I bought it at a garage sale for $500...if only I'd kept it. -

Outstanding! Two different stances? Bags?
-
Looks great! Too pricey for me to use regularly though...

It's the Great Pumpkin! Really great build.

Outstanding build! Good choice of color and de-badging. I'd drive it.

Really looks the part. Nice work!

1965 Ford F100
redscampi replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
While personally not a fan of airbags (a by-product of my age and upbringing) this truck is absolutely amazing. The patina is spot-on. -

redscampi replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This was my second car exactly in this color with parchment interior. I bought it for $700 and a junky 64 Dodge. Now I can barely get a kit of this car for reasonable money... Yours is beautiful by the way. -

I worked on this 1954 F100 for a couple of years before I ended up moving cross country and sold it due to logistics. I also sold my Firebird and Lemans. Many projects before that. I'm older now so just have this 66.
