  1. Well, this one took a minute. I bought this kit when it first came out, which I think was in 1991. It followed me around, unbuilt, until I started building it in 2002 or 2003. Then, life happened, and it got put away. I dug it out late last year (2022) with the intention of finishing it over Christmas break. No, make that finishing it by January 1st, 2023. Well, how about I finish it in March? Special thanks to Leroy Long for helping me along with a missing part. Painted Tamiya Light Gun Metal TS-42, with Tamiya Semi-Gloss Bright Gun Metal TS-100 for the interior. Polished out with Tamiya finishing compounds. I added Eduard photoetched seatbelts, and that's it. I think during final assembly, I got the rear of the cockpit tub a little low, as there is a small gap just behind the seats that I think shouldn't be there. But it's done now. WIP here:
  2. Joseph is a great guy to deal with! Highly, highly recommended.
  3. Final mockup before committing the body and chassis together with glue. I'm afraid to polish any more ...
  4. So I had this self-imposed deadline of January 1st. hahahaha I got some paint on the car again, and a first coat of clear. Progress! Quick mock up ... I got a second coat of clear on it late yesterday. Now to polish - hopefully without any new disaster.
  5. Hopefully, back on track. After a couple of days in the "Purple Pond", I was left with this. We had a few cool days here, and I think being cool outside (and in the garage) kept the cleaner from doing its stuff. But not to fear ... 91% isopropyl alcohol, and elbow grease, I had better results (And yes, practice safety - wear gloves, don't breath the isopropyl alcohol vapors, etc., etc.!) I still had to do some light sanding and scrape out the panel lines again. First coat of primer, flowed by a light sand. I need to do one final coat of primer and then I think I can paint again. But it's raining like crazy today.
  6. Welcome, Blake. Whereabouts in NC are you? I grew up not too far from Fayetteville - and if you're ever in that area, go visit Hayes Hobby House. If you're ever in the Triangle area, go visit Hanger 18 Hobbies in Cary. Both are great shops.
  7. I'm really enjoying this! Excellent work.
  8. A great idea! Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.
  9. Oops. So .... I thought I'd touch up the dash and use more of a flat black than the dark gray. Mind you, I've completed everything else and all that remained was final assembly. Removed the masking tape - and removed the paint. Oopsy. I think this is related to whatever primer I used initially (I don't recall). So, looks like a strip and repaint is in order for the body. Oh, so close ....
  10. This is incredible work!
  11. Interesting bit of history and what a beautiful save! So cool!
  12. Wow! This is outstanding!
  13. Beautiful work. This is the car that always comes to mind when I hear "Lamborghini". I know they've built some amazing cars over the years, but the early Countach is the one to have in my book. Very nice build!
  14. Got a little bit of work done on the Mythos. Seatbelts added. And a test fit of the engine. I haven't touched the engine since I started the initial build of the kit back in '02 or '03. I thought about doing some touchups, but decided to leave everything that I'd started back then "as is" and just concentrate on finishing the build.
  15. Excellent.
  16. Such a beautiful build. You so rarely see these completed. Really nice work. Glad you're on the mend.
  17. Daniel, Thanks for digging that up! I enjoyed that build. Here are some more pictures of mine. Carl - If I recall correctly, my biggest issues were: getting a clean (and symmetrical) line between the colors filling the seams for the air intakes/outlets I actually glued the top rear cover to the body. I botched the "QUAD4" decals and the jaggy looking seam between the top and bottom rear of the car was my own fault - I ran Tamiya panel line wash along the seam before the glue set. I have another of these in my stash and I think I'll go for the long tailed version. Or maybe just make up something. Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours!
  18. That's the coolest thing I've seen all day!
  19. very cool
  20. Thank you - I agree, I like the color. I mean, I get why Ferrari would paint the original one red and all. You definitely need to pick one up and give it a try. Thank you. I'm thinking shades of gray and black for the interior, at least right now. I do like the idea of a contrasting interior, though. Tamiya's Mica Red is a great color.
  21. I picked this up when they first came out around 1990 or so. I actually started the kit in late 2002 or early 2003; but then life happened and the partly assembled kit was put back in the box. I recently dug it out and decided to finish it. Here's what I've done so far: This is the kit as I dug it out of the stash. Originally, I'd planned to paint it silver (who wants a red one-off Ferrari, anyway?!?). Prior to putting the kit away, I had finished the engine, and I'd primed, painted, striped, primed, painted ... (as per my usual method of painting, it seems) the body. For the late 2022, early 2023 restart of the kit, I decided to go with Tamiya Light Gun Metal for the body color. And various Tamiya black paints for the underbody More to come (I hope!) ....
  22. this should probably be under : "1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)" sorry about that
  23. Maybe this is old news to everyone but me. I came across a couple of pictures of this car while researching cars raced in '57 and '58. Does anyone know anything about this car? Do decals exist to build this? I did find some information at this link: https://www.audrainautomuseum.org/racetrack-to-the-opera/1957-chevrolet-150-black-widow
