Scratch Building an Aussie Ford Falcon **New update,15/1/18**
W-409 replied to ShawnS's topic in WIP: Model Cars
And fantastic work continues-those Mud Flaps look very good. I can't believe that you made those from plastic and in this scale! These scratchbuilding projects just make me want to get sheet styrene and try to make '25 Ford T Altered body, but I guess it would end up as mess. -
Great to see this car being built as Custom too. You do great job, can't wait to see more. The kit is really nice, keep coming.

Thanks, Marty. What?

Thanks for the kind words, Bill! They're really appreciated. The rubber question is asked very often. I try to aswer clearly: Take a spare tire (the one you're not planning to use), install it to Dremel or any other Motor Tool. There are many ways to do it and it depends of the tire diameter which one works the best for me. Then just simply do a few "burnouts" with that combination. I like to do burnouts on sheet metal, but sand paper is good too. Finer sandpaper you have, finer burnt rubber you get. Then I install them to model which is otherwise finished using Revell gloss clear and paint brush, I paint the area with clear where I want those burnt rubbers and then I just stick them there. Hope that helps.

My '57 Chevy: I've also built one '57 Nomad Gasser, but I don't have good picture of it. Also I'm planning to do one '57 Chevy Street Freak style build soon.

Very Nice Dodge Dart you got there! Excellent paint job and great job with the BMF. I really like the engine detail, too. Only thing what is bit disturbing, are those decals, they should be cut from the panel lines... Now it looks like doors don't open. That's little thing of course, and rest of it looks fantastic. Very nice build!

'57 Chevy Bel Air Convertible - 1/16 - Junk Car
W-409 replied to Model Junkyard's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That looks fantastic. I like the work you've done into this build. Especially the engine detail looks impressive, and rust is very realistic too. I like where this project is going, more pictures, please. -
Yeah, Rat Rod is nowadays quite large category, where are cars from Matt Black, pretty clean Hot Rods to real rusty "bombs". Of course there are different levels of Rat Rods, and I think this one qualifies into Rat Rod category, as it is today. I mean that it's really large category nowadays.

Yeah, looks like you did excellent job on your first build. Paint job looks shiny in the pictures, great job. Pictures are bit blurry. Clear pictures make the model look better, too. Do you use a Camera or Cell Phone for taking pictures? If you use camera, make sure that you have Macro or Super Macro setting on. It's usually marked with flower in some button. And keep your hands steady when taking pictures with Super Macro. If you use cell phone, it's possible to take good pictures too, but it's not as easy. I like to take outside shots with cell phone, they turn out much better than inside shots. Then just take many pics and choose the best ones. Good pictures make the model really stand out. And one thing what helps, use big one colored background (I like to use white poster). It makes it easier to camera to focus to right object. Hope this helps, not trying to nitpick or something. Just wanted to give tips how to make models look better in these pictures too. -
50 Ford F-1 slammer
W-409 replied to Sixx's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Wow that's very nice, as usual! I really like the color on it and paint job looks smooth. Nice wheel and tire choice. Also like the Mooneyes Gas Tank, overall very Old School style Ford, and that's always great. Great pictures too. -
Scratch Building an Aussie Ford Falcon **New update,15/1/18**
W-409 replied to ShawnS's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is scratchbuilding at its best! I really like the way this build is coming along. Engine looks fantastic. I couldn't believe that it's scratch built. You do very good job, keep the updates coming. -
Thanks for the comments, everyone! They're really appreciated. For the interior flocking, that's excellent question. I don't know why I didn't use it. It really gives nice finished touch, but don't know why I skipped it with this one. Well, I guess next time I will use the flocking for interior, especially when door panels are seperate pieces. No progress yet, sorry about that. I've been building the Pro Stock Cuda now, but I'm getting back to this one too. I have to find cauge decal for tachometer. I know I have those somewhere, but where they are, is very good question.

Some more pictures. Little Mockup:

This CBP Has been stalled for a long time... I'd like to ask what's going on with other builds in this thread? I haven't got much done until now I took the Cuda back on the bench. I installed the rear axle on place, it fit nicely. Front axle is from my parts box, but it needed some cutting and slicing before it fitted nicely. Now it fits on place, but it needs more work. However, I can't get it done before engine is installed. Wheels and tires are on place too. Interior is also painted and I started the assembly too. Carpet is flat black, door panels and seats are semigloss black and roll bar is gloss black. Seat belts are red this time, otherwise the interior would have been really dark.

Very nice Ford Roadster, it sure looks like real deal. The stance is just right and I like the color too. Very clean and nice overall, but those battery cables could look bit more realistic, or is it just me?

What Revell should put out as Kits...
W-409 replied to TheCat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would like to see '68 Impala SS 427 from Revell. One of the nicest Impalas ever produced and that would make cool builds, like Factory Stock, Stock Eliminator Drag Racer and basic Street Car. MPC's original kit is so expensive that I guess there would be enough buyers for this one, too? -
Kurt Wilson`s: 23 T` Bucket new project 10/9/12
W-409 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Excellent work as always, John! All of those details really look great, and when this is Hot Rod with the hood removed, they will be more visible than in "normal" car. Very nice job! -
As you have maybe noticed, I can't build one model at a time. So here goes another Stock Eliminator Drag Car Project. I just bought Monogram '87 Buick GNX and this is the first version, I'm going to build from this kit. I have planned to do one Factory Stock GNX, one Bracket Racer and one Pro Sportsman GNX too, at some point since this car has really potential. Okay, this will be with the 6 cylinder Turbo engine, and it will run in G/SA with NHRA index of 12,00 seconds. As inspiration, I will use "Luppe" Luoso's '84 Buick Regal Stocker what raced here in Finland on late 80's. The kit is very nice, only thing I found bad, is that there are a lot of molded in wires on the engine bay. They need to be removed, and I will make new ones from aftermarket wire. This will be Stocker as it could be on the 80's. I'm going with Centerline style wheels and Good Year slicks. I don't have good front tires, those are the highest profile tires I found my spare parts boxes. Yes they are 50's whitewall tires, but I will modify them to real Frontrunners. Shouldn't be too hard. I had to do little work for the rear tires to get those wheels fit right. Engine block is also glued together, but I don't have any pictures of it right now. An Early Mockup: The stance is not 100% right in that picture, more important was to check tire sizes, front tires have to be little higher, otherwise everything looks pretty good to me.

I had absolutely no idea about this one, didn't find anything from Google either. But I have to say that it's a shame to know what this one is.
-
Looks Good! You do always great work and I like following your builds. Especially I like the Vega so far. Decals fit very nicely and paint job turned out nice over all. Can't wait to see more.

Pekka Penttilä's Modified Stock '62 Dart "Police". It was found in 2009 after many years: I'll post more if I can find pictures.
-
Arto Sulopuisto's Chevy Nova, in Super Stock. Nowadays Sulopuisto is driving Stock Eliminator with Pontiac Firebird, I've posted a picture of it earlier on this page. P-A Skinnars' Cuda. This runs in Modified Stock, it was close of Super Stock, basically the same but with minor differences. Peter Alm's Dodge Polara with 426 Max Wedge:

Then Chevy Chevelle Wagon driven By Anna Kaisa Manninen. It did run in P/SA. And then Pasi Mikkonen's Firebird. Pictures are from 2006 season. It did run in B/FI, what's that?! But I do remember that this was Very good and fast car, and if I remember correctly, it ran faster than NHRA Record in 2006 or 2007, can't remember which year it was. One better picture, not mine: http://kuvia.1g.fi/kuvat/Tapahtumat+2006/AlastaroNitroNats/NitroNats-06-961.jpg Then Some Old Gold: Older pictures of Finnish Stockers, we had Lots of them in the 80's and 90's. And these pictures are NOT mine, I was not born then, but I've read all Finnish American Car Magazines etc. and here are some cars, I remember: Martti "Luppe" Luoso's Buick Grand National.

Thanks for the interest! Yeah, sure, post pictures from Germany too! Do you have other Drag Strips than Hockenheim there? This year Hockenheim's track wasn't in perfect condition, but I can remember that at least Finnish TMFC Driver Jarmo Kuutniemi drove his record pass there. Here are some more Finnish Stockers & Super Stockers: First this Chevy Camaro driven by Asko Somppi in GT/CA (one of the sub-categories of Super Stock.) Then Jukka Johansson's Mercury Cougar Eliminator Stocker. I guess this is not the most common car in Stock Eliminator? You've seen this one already, but found cool picture of it, Tarmo Mikkola's Super Stock Camaro. Then Sami Toppari's AMC AMX Super Stocker...... This is one of the original SS AMX Drag Cars that were made for Drag Racing straight from the factory! http://ssamx.com/41.htm

I guess I could post one picture of my Simca Gasser here, too. And: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65034
