Is flash a measure of quality?
W-409 replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In my opinion, amount of Mold Flash is not a measure of quality. I think the most important thing in Model Kit is, how much parts there are and how well detailed are them. For me it usually doesn't matter, if there's some mold flash, because always there are mold lines what need to be removed too. Sometimes, yes, Mold Flash is very difficult to remove, that times mold flash really does matter. (for example little tie rods etc on front axles.) What I think are the most important measures of quality. 1. How well detailed the parts are. 2. How Much parts does the kit include. 3. Parts fit nicely to each other. 4. Mold Lines and Mold Flash. Maybe other people think different way than I do, but this is my opinion. -
1950 Chevy Pickup
W-409 replied to rmvw guy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This Chevy looks real good to me. Perfect stance and wheel choice is very good too. I like the paint job also, very good job over all. -
Very cool, and even if I don't usually like weathering, but now I really have to say that Nice Weathering!!! Cool build over all .

Cool Hudson, I like the color. It suits that Hudson body pretty well actually. Good stance too and perfect wheel choice. Great job with the engine, but little detailing would not be a bad thing.

Good Looking Ferrari Build! Wire wheels look excellent, are they Photo Etch parts? Good paint job too, and I guess very few people will notice those valve covers, if you don't say anything about them.
-
You sure do some great work, John! Another very clean NASCAR build of very good looking car.

This one looks good to me. Or then that one, I suggested with PM. http://stores.scaledreams.com/-strse-664/Assorted-grit-Polishing-system/Detail.bok Then I would buy these two http://stores.scaledreams.com/-strse-1077/Novus-1-Clean-and/Detail.bok and http://stores.scaledreams.com/-strse-1078/Novus-2-fine-scratch/Detail.bok I didn't totally Get It, which one would be better, or if both of them are needed. So I would buy both and test them.

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
W-409 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Thanx, Stephen ! Not too Fancy update, but just wanted to let you know, that body is now ready for paint. I'm waiting now for the paint, I should get it tomorrow, so hopefully it'll be in Blue soon. Then I must paint the white top, of course. I have to move on to the interior too. -
I didn't find good shifter from my spare parts boxes. So I took styrene sheet, and some red plastic tubing. Cut few pieces out of styrene, and there I had the basic components for building the shifter, as in first picture. I put those together, but after that I added still little styrene strips, and now the shifter is waiting for paint. Not perfect, but Okay for me.

It has been a while since the latest update of the Camaro. Anyway, I was able to do some work today for it, and here we go. First I sanded all bondo-spots smooth, and actually it looked pretty good then. After that I decided to spray one primer coat on it, and now I can see what places need some more work, and what are good like that. I found correct seats for this one too. Now they are on the paint removal, hopefully tomorrow they are ready to be painted. I had to remove all of the wiring from that firewall. Applied little amount of putty there, too.

I would take the body from that Diecast & Chassis and interior and engine parts from other Model Kits, where those parts are pretty close of original '41 Chevys parts.

I built this What If Style Dragster from Bugatti Glue Bomb, fitted Chevy Small Block with Hillborn Fuel Injection in it. Front axle is stolen from Revell '29 Ford Pickup, but it's bit narrowed. Wheels and tires are from my parts box and there are many, many scratchbuilt parts. This took only few days to build, it was just a little & fast project between more serious builds. But the most important thing was, it was very fun to build.

Here are few recent Muscle Cars. I've built many more, but I'm not going to post those older builds here. First we have this Chevy Corvette: Does this qualify as a Muscle Car?

Very nice Monza, turned out very well. I'm a fan of these H-Body cars too, so this one is one of my favorite subjects too. Nice paint job, as usual and very clean build over all.

I found these two Carburetors from my parts box... What do you say about them, would they be more realistic than that one, I've already glued to the engine?
-
I've made some progress for the Chevelle too. New Belt Pullies are from my parts box, alternator too and new engine drive belt is made from paper. I also fabricated alternator bracket out of beer can aluminium. Then I built Turbo Wastegates. They are not so great as they could be, but just enough for me: They can't be seen well from finished build, only little part of them will be visible. I have built some chassis too, no pics yet but I can say that rear axle is almost there. Only thing I need to do for it, is little narrowing, since now tires don't fit nicely inside rear fenders, but when I take few millimeters off from the rear axle, everything will be all right, I guess. Of course I don't know what needs to be done for the front end...

Oh yes, it's far away from Factory Stock, and I'm building Model of that car, when I get this started. So I'm gonna use that one as reference, it's the famous Art Russell Plymouth, but today it is located here in Finland! Reference pictures are possible to get and luckily V8 Magazine just released an article of that car. Thanks, Robert!

Fireball 500 El Camino
W-409 replied to Psychographic's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Another Very Cool Build! I like this idea too, and very nice execution. Maybe the wheels could be little smaller for my taste, but otherwise it's very good looking build. -
This is great build, as usual. The MonkeesMobile is so boring subject, that this kind of conversion looks interesting. I have to do something same styled too, since I have one Monkees Mobile also. Can't wait to see more, you're talents are great.

Oh, somehow I've missed this thread before. Luckily found it now. Nice to see Monza being built, and you're doing very good job with this. IMSA Style looks actually quite good in this body style, keep it going.

W-409 replied to ShawnS's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is absolutely amazing scratchbuilding. Every time I see a new update I can expect amazing scratchbuilding, but somehow you just manage to Blow Me Away in every, single update! Thanks for sharing I wish I had scratchbuilding skills like that. -
