  1. Sigh.........now THIS is what I'd like to have! But of course, it's out of stock! I'd build mine without the rear fender skirts, and cut down front wheel wells. Oh well.........I've always got that old curbside I could do something with someday.
  2. My that sure does look familiar! Mine's a '55 shortnose though........... Very nice that one is, but I built mine for a whole lot less! Profil24 does some BEAUTIFUL kits! I've got this one.......... But as usual, lots of models and not a whole lot of time nowadays to build 'em.
  3. Aaah, I wondered about those........not being up to all the details on '60 Mercs, I thought that different models had different covers. No matter though! I'll run across the proper ones as time goes on, and also a proper set of wide whites which were still en vogue for '60. That's one of the main reasons I snatched this one up as soon as I saw it! EVERY time I'd run across these on the 'Bay, it would have those horrific balloon taillights! And they couldn't be just set in.............noooooo! There's so much glue they used that not only the taillights were ruined, but also the bumper------plating notwithstanding!
  4. Carl, that post is from two years ago......October 10 is on a Tuesday this year. A date I'm VERY familiar with as it's my birthday. The show this year is on Saturday October 7th.........I remember only because the COMA dinner is the night before, as I got an email about it, but I won't be able to go this time around. What time the show is on the 7th, I'm not sure.........someone can fill us in?
  5. Kevin, you can just put a dab of Tamiya Clear Amber on the inside of those parking lenses to get the effect you want. I've not seen those lenses in Amber, just the bulb flashing behind it was.
  6. I was talking about this very thing to someone at our club's model show just last week. The subject was brought up about The Modelhaus and if someone would pick up where they left off. We surmised that no, not likely for the very reasons that Howard mentioned above. Time marches on and it's a fact that we're all getting older. The average builder I think on this board is now in their 50's and 60's. Someone could buy all the tooling and molds that Don and Carol had, but then much to their chagrin, they find out that now the market had indeed really shrunk compared to when Don and Carol were at their peak, and someone plunking down thousands of dollars for the business, may never recover their investment. Sad, but that's the reality of the hobby at the moment.
  7. Wow! That IS a nice looking diecast Snake! As far as the DLO...........hmmm...........seems to me the rear quarter window upper line could stand to be raised just a wee bit. The roof contours look fine as is.........just that upper line raised to be more like the 1:1, but only ever so slightly. There's a very subtle rake I see.
  8. Beside being excellent casters in the biz, Don and Carol are excellent customer service people as well. Recently, I emailed them to let them know about a change in my bank info. I got a letter back from Carol thanking me for letting me know about the change, and also to let me know that my order wouldn't be fulfilled until sometime early spring '18 (I think). I wrote her back to thank her for keeping me updated, and that there was absolutely NO HURRY in what I ordered! I've got enough here to last several lifetimes, and at this point there will be models that'll outlive me. Class act those two, and they WILL be missed!
  9. WOW! I LOVE that tip TĂșlio! I gotta try that sometime! I've got that foil you mentioned, and of course I've got several of those pin vises. The texture that's on the caps is known as "knurling". Very creative!
  10. Thanks for the replies fellas! Looks like I'll be rounding up the engine out of the '65 Lincoln to turn this into more than a curbside. Here's the '60 in question.........meant to post these before, but now just loaded them onto Fotki. As you can see it has a couple "issues".......the fender ornaments are missing, and the person that had it before, cut out the fender skirts (very cleanly I might add). I kind of like the look without the skirts, but I can make new ones and maybe make them "removable" if need be. As far as undercarriage detail, a tweaked '60 Ford (newer tool) should work as the chassis and floor pans are very similar. These are getting oh so hard to find anymore that aren't total glue bombs! Thanks again for the advice!
  11. OK! I remember this auction now, and darn if I can remember who the caster of those wheels was from Germany! Maybe if Paul sees this thread he can fill us in? BTW, that's a GORGEOUS Coronet!! Paul does super excellent work and I'm always following his auctions when they turn up on the 'Bay. I can't afford some of the prices they go for though!
  12. Beautiful 'Bird Matt! I had one of these too, but it got lost/damaged in a move. Each time I see one of these on the 'Bay, I try to bid on it, but I get beat every time by a STAGGERING amount! One of these days though.............. What I REALLY want is the '79......those were the last of the big blocks, and I like the hood scoop better on that one.
  13. Drop a line to Chief Joseph about those wheelcovers-----it wouldn't hurt to ask. He does make a nice set of standard wheelcovers for the '68 Charger that I got recently. A nice sleeper of a car would be to model one with the 1970 W11 wheelcovers and whitewalls, and the Hemi under the hood! I'm quite certain that Mother Mopar made some in the factory like that when they were new.
  14. TĂșlio! She's gorgeous! I gotta ask..........where or what did you use for the "dimpled" door sills?? Looks quite good and certainly suits the car! I love the WWW's too........I have to buy mine as painting them never works well for me.
  15. I love what you're doing to this J.C.! I have that hoary AAR kit and now I have reason to NOT toss it out! You know what happens next don't you?? Revell will come out with this kit next year!
  16. Beautiful car Randy! Bill Mitchell sure knew how to style 'em back in those days! Next to the '71-'73 Rivs, these are my favorite of those!
  17. I can GUARANTEE that this would have been rusty here in PA by 1963!
  18. This'll be interesting! 1963 would have been when I first new what a car was, but of course wouldn't know the names or models as I was just two at the time. Those cars you mentioned more than likely were on my street that I lived on at the time. I'll definitely have to check it out even though I'm not a Stephen King fan! Yeah, I gotta agree! I can remember walking to school in the later '60's and a lot of those '50's/early '60's cars were somewhat rusty by that point.........especially here in salty Central PA. There were exceptions, but we used to poke fun at finned rusty cars on the street on a rainy day as "drafty cars".
  19. Thanks for the info Bill! I have plenty of the FE engines in my stash to choose from, I've also have the '65 Lincoln kit that I'll check out. Appreciate it!
  20. Yeah Mark, of all the old kits I have, the Johan ones are probably the last I'll let go. They're getting harder to find (especially untouched ones) with each passing year, and the prices reflect that. Interesting that '61 Plymouth went for the price it did! Of all the strange cars ever put out by Detroit, that car has to among one of the weirdest! Maybe that's why folks love 'em so much!
  21. I picked up a VERY cleanly built 1960 Mercury Parklane two door hardtop recently, and it'll be another one of those "must do" projects that I'd like to restore and add some extra detail. What I'd like to know is if there's an engine source out there for this era Mercury that could be used? I'm not up on Merc engines for these years, and I'm in the dark as to what was what back then. Any thoughts folks? Thanks in advance!
  22. Just to show you how crazy prices can get for those OOP old Johans, take a look at this recently ended auction!
  23. BTW, just a little bit ago before I made the above post, I saw a few more from these bogus sellers that are sure to get zapped. They keep on tryin' and if I see 'em and report it, they'll keep on zappin' 'em!
  24. Well, it looks like that one bit the dust! I saw that auction recently by another LEGIT seller, and now this joker comes along trying to hijack it and put it in a bogus auction. Lately, when I see these bogus auctions, I just report them (like the one above) and it's comical to see them in your watch list only to come back a short time later and ZAP!!------they're history.
  25. Rex, that is one NICE Gulf GT40! One kit that hasn't been mentioned and it's proportions aren't bad is the pricey but nice LeMans Miniatures version. I had one of these kits for many years, and even went as far as getting the resin doors to open and close properly. I lost interest in it though and eventually sold it on eBay. At least to me, the lines of the body were quite good, although some may differ with that thought. It looked to me for the Gulf car that they modeled, the lines were mostly spot on.
