Moebius - Now that the Comet is out, What's Next
MrObsessive replied to Swifster's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm with you there on the DeSoto's Steve! Unfortunately, I'm not holding my breath for them to do that car. I'd LOVE to see something like this as a companion to it. Once again it's probably wishful thinking on my part but hey! Some surgery with the '58 Plymouth front end, the Parts Pack '57 DeSoto front bumper, reshaping the rear roofline and I'm most of the way there! I keep meaning to get in touch Jimmy Flintstone for the rear bumper..........this is a ways off project, so I've got plenty of time. -

No doubt! We're seeing that already as I frequent eBay quite a bit, and I see them doing this. -
Last Modelhaus Order
MrObsessive replied to unclescott58's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I believe I placed my last order with them just a few days (early July?) before they ceased taking orders. You can bet that when they first went into business back in the early '80's, they'd NEVER could have imagined the wild success they'd have! If there ever is a "Resin Casters Hall of Fame", Don and Carol would certainly be in it! Along with Norm Veber, Harold Bradford and a number of others. BTW, my last order with them was their 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, and something else that I can't remember. The Caddy is one of my favorites from the '70's and one I'd like to fully detail one of these fine days. Yeah, I can see that what they're going to have to clean up in the way of orders, can take them a year if not a little longer! At least there's the "comfort" of knowing that there's light at the end of the tunnel, and they can finally enjoy their retirement and do what they'd like. -

It looks dead on nuts accurate from where I sit! You WILL be busy with orders for this once you get this out on the streets! In a former life, I was a cab driver and these were all over the roads in the late '80's/early '90's. Now I can't remember the last time I've seen one. Excellent work!! -
Pontiac TransAm fans unite
MrObsessive replied to djflyer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Without a true Pontiac division among GM's lineup, it just wouldn't be the same though. Perhaps if we get a booming economy particularly with the likes of GM, maybe they can be brought back? GM's original plans was to have Pontiac become a very low volume, strictly high performance niche division. That is before the government stepped in back in '08 and bullied them into shutting Pontiac down. Sad.......... -
Is it just me, or has the site slowed down again?
MrObsessive replied to russosborne's topic in How To Use This Board
I had the same problem. Tried to respond to a post, and got the 404 Error. The back arrow wasn't working (latest and greatest version of Chrome), and when I closed the window and tried to reopen the site, it was turtle slow. Things seem to be working (for now), but it was frustrating as it was a lengthy post that got lost. I'm going to have to start putting things on Word Document and transfer things here when it comes to long posts like an update on a WIP for instance. It's too frustrating to have to remember and type all that I wanted to say more than once. -
To me this is the money shot! Absolutely love it Randy! Convertibles kits always seemed "incomplete" to me without an uptop. Super clean, and the way it sits it just right!

NNL East and the most wanted list!
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The '57 Nomad should be a no-brainer for Revell! Why that car continues to get ignored is beyond me. It was there on one of the pages of the list, so maybe there's hope. -
A big shout out to Randy Ditton (RandyD)! Just got a very nice Lamborghini Countach (Fujimi Enthusiast Model) in trade with him! For those of you who are going to buy from him in his new store------rest assured, you'll be taken care of!
-
Now this is right up my alley-------I GOTTA get one of these! Y'all know how much I love working features and stuff! This engine reminds me of the old 1/8 scale Marushin Porsche Flat Six. That one is VERY rare, and VERY expensive!

AMT '68 Road Runner/GTX--What Was the Story?
MrObsessive replied to Snake45's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'd be interested in a correct grille too. I have that kit, and until I saw this thread I hadn't paid much attention to the grille. Now that I've taken a closer look at the kit and focused on the grille, I can't unsee it. Along with fixing the much needed bodywork that I can't un-notice (like I did with the coupe), I'd like to at least have a correct grille to go along with corrected bodywork if I ever decide to dive in and build it. -
NNL East and the most wanted list!

Really?? Any pics? I'd love to see it as that's one of my favorite cars outta the '70's! -
Steve, I got to have a very long conversation with Juha--------we traded tips back and forth! Yeah, Juha's models have to be seen in 3D to really appreciate all the work that he puts in to them! Tapani Rauramo is a great builder as well. I was REALLY tempted by the resin Aston Martin that he had for sale........but it was a bit pricey, and I thought it better to hold off on that one for a bit.

John, if memory serves me, it was determined that the tooling for that '68 was too far gone, and wasn't worth their while to try and restore it. I would have loved to see that one come back...........I've got a junker convertible that needs restoring, and years ago I sold a pristine convertible kit in an excellent box that went for a REAL CRAZY price on eBay. The junker I've got at least isn't painted, but it's missing a few things. I can betcha that if I put that up for auction (I have no intention!), it would go for a good chunk of change again--------that's how wanted these cars are! Just a hood for instance I've seen go for $40! Yikes! -
NNL East and the most wanted list!

I spoke to Ed Sexton directly about the 1977-79 T-Birds (besides writing it on the wanted list), and how there are some things that could be shared with the Torino, namely the chassis and running gear. I said that even if it was a snapper lowrider I'd take it! He raised his eyebrows and said, "Hmmm......" Time will tell! -
Oh yeah Michael! At the Moebius table there was a fellow that just up and picked up one of the models as if it were his! He was very sternly told by Dave to not pick them up! I don't get it with some folks! The fellow did apologize for picking them up.....logic should dictate that you don't have any idea how they're put together. They could just be "mocked up" for all we know and the whole thing could come apart!
-
Oh yeah Tom! I'd estimate that there were maybe 1500 models there?? Unless the show ran a couple days, it's almost impossible to see everything there! Not to mention conversations that I had with people (a lot), there were times when it's just a bit difficult to see certain tables it was so crowded. The custom table was particularly crowded and looking at the number of models there on that table alone, the whole show can turn into sensory overload-----and then there's the sheer amount of vendors there! From all of that it's no wonder it's the biggest show on the east coast!
-
I gotta tell ya........I'm not a street rod kinda guy, but I couldn't help but take several pics of this! This was built by Juha Airio who I had quite a long conversation with, and also Tapani Rauramo of AirTrax. The bodywork on this was flawless, and it wasn't till I saw the back end of it that I figured out that he used an Edsel of all things! That was before I saw what he wrote on the card!
-
Another shot of that Suburban............. I tried to get a shot of the back, but the way the model was sitting I couldn't get my phone behind it, and I sure didn't want to pick it up!
-
Wow! This was a real shock to see........gone way too soon as she was my age. The story's here.......
-
Yeah, JC! I don't remember who that was as I was talking to MANY people there, but it sure is looking good! Lots of ideas for future models I saw-------now if I can only come up with a way to put more hours in a day, so I'd have more time!

NNL East and the most wanted list!
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Oh for certain, 98% of what's on that list will never see the light of day. At least the two I mentioned to Ed could be candidates as they can be based on what's already in Revell's tooling. Interesting just the same, and there was a crowd around Revell's display area as the head guy himself was there to take questions. -
If you remember last year, I composed a thread in which I took pics of what was listed as the most wanted kits that modelers wanted. Ed Sexton from Revell was there, and once again this year at the NNL he had a tablet for those of us to list what we'd like to see kitted in the future. By the time I got to the tablet, there were six pages of wants listed...........there were probably more listed later on although some were maybe repeats of what was already written down, as there are more than likely repeats on several pages here. I didn't take a pic of what I had written down--------------1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, and one I mentioned to Ed personally, a 1977-79 Ford Thunderbird which could be based somewhat on their Starsky and Hutch Torino. Heck, I said that even if it was a lowrider snap kit, I'd take it! He nodded his head in agreement, so we'll just have to wait and see if it ever comes to fruition! Ok..........here are the lists!

Well, as usual the Tri-State Model Car Club put on one FABULOUS show! Originally, I wasn't planning to go as I had wanted to head to GSL which is next week. Well unfortunately, finances wouldn't let me do that this time around, so I decided to spend the money on NNL East, and I was glad I went! I got there around 6-6:30 Friday evening, and had a really great dinner at Houlihan's-----even though I couldn't eat it all. Soooooo much good stuff at the NNL, it's almost impossible to see everything! I'm not sure of the numbers, but I'd say there were at one point 700 people there perhaps?? For those of you who've never been there-----you GOT to make the trek at least once! If you click here, you'll see the pics I took. There's no rhyme or reason to the pics taken, just what was catching my eye at that moment. Enjoy!

Moebius - Now that the Comet is out, What's Next
MrObsessive replied to Swifster's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As far as I know, the '56's (Chrysler and DeSoto), were pretty much identical underneath and engine wise. The 300B might have had a bit more horsepower in keeping with Chrysler wanting to keep its "performance car" image, although the Adventurer model was DeSoto's sister to the 300B. Basically reworked front end, fins, and side trim would be needed, as well as different interior bits and pieces.
