Sad Sad Sad News: Our Harry Passed Away
MrObsessive replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow..........I'm not sure what to say as I'm still trying to absorb all of this. I'm glad I got to know Harry over the years, even if it was just through the spoken word online or phone. I'm also glad that he was able to finish the 1/8 Pocher Mercedes 500 K/AK roadster that I sold to him years ago. I knew that it would go to a good home, and indeed he did a fantastic job on it for all that saw it posted here. I had high hopes that he'd pull through, but when I read that he was resigned to going into Hospice, I knew it would be just a matter of time, as I still have very vivid memories four years later of my Dad being in a similar situation. Harry's no longer suffering-----we can take comfort in that. I can also appreciate his back and forth letters to me when I was struggling with my eyesight months ago. What he told me meant a lot, and I'll always appreciate it. Still, it hurts to realize that we'll never see him posting here again, and it's painful just the same to read past posts that he started knowing that at the time he was alive and well. Of course, every time I build a model and I get to where it's time to attach those mirrors, I won't be able to help but think of Harry. I truly feel for his family-------Life can be cruel at times, and we just never know how or when unfortunate circumstances can hit us. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and his close friends. -
As they say, "You can't take it with you". This fellow has not just a few, but TONS of cars sitting on five acres of land for sale that he wants to get rid of in Canada. Needless to say, I say some real nice gems there-----including a certain AMC that if I had the money (and more importantly the time), I'd rescue it in a heartbeat. The back story to this fellow is here......... You can check out the listing here, and take a look at the many pics!

I have a couple of Jeff's resin kits and while they are not what I would call "Modelhaus quality" (The Standard), IMO they're very good for the price you're paying. No pinholes, no flash, no warpage. The models I have are his '71 Riviera, and '71 Olds Delta 88. The Riviera while nice, is slightly inaccurate in its roofline. No doubt due to the original master, and not due to molding quality. He offers no plated parts so you'll have to send 'em out, or "Molotow" paint them. So, I have no complaints from this quarter about his items...........He's got a certain Corvair that I've been watching from time to time, I may spring for that one down the road!

Kenworth T-2000
MrObsessive replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, barring anything unforeseen I hope to be there! I won't be over the night before like last year...........just going to leave here very early Saturday morning, and hope to be very early in line as that can get reeeeeeallll loooong! -
Wow! I never noticed this before and all I can say again is............WOW!! A bucket list build of mine is to one day build a '60's Gulf station with removable roof and all. Like you said, finding the room to place something this size can be the hardest thing. Also in my case, I've got cats! Gotta find a way to make it cat-proof as well-----sometimes easier said than done!

scale motorsport Shelby Daytona coupe
MrObsessive replied to montanaphil's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Darin you stinker you! You got me on that one! Well, as they say dreams die hard, and I guess someday I'll want to tackle that HRM Daytona I have. It's one of my favorite '60's road racers! -
Very beautiful model Bill! Interesting that the 1:1 has those rubber guards up front------that's the first I've seen of those on a '60. Yeah, that body style screams for that pastel blue shade you painted it. Ford took a big risk in making their '60 models look the way they did, but they did a good job IMO as they had a bit more lead time after the whole industry got a look at Chrysler's '57 line. Much cleaner than what GM did for '59! I've got several '60 kits, and one of them might turn into a converible someday. I'd sure make that top fit as they look quite handsome with 'em up!

Interesting enough, I've got one of those MASH helicopters in my stash. I've never built it because the bubble canopy is sooooo distorted, it takes away from what I think is a major styling element of those Bell 47 'copters. I even have a gas powered one hanging from the ceiling behind me in my avatar pic. -

I'm that way too. I don't crazed about scale either as a poorly proportioned car is a big turn off despite all the dimensions being spot on. The car that Gunze modeled I think looks accurate from the car that it represents. All of them were different from each other in appearance and other things. -

WHOA!! I didn't see that coming!!! I've GOT to get one of those Daytona coupes!! I've got HRM's kit as well, but I've been chicken to start on it as it's soooo nice! PLEASE REVELL!! DON'T BACK OUT ON THIS ONE! I can only hope it's a full detail kit and NOT a curbside............We'll soon know! OH!! I see the Ferrari 308GTB is on its way back! ALRIGHT!! -
What do YOU like about the MoPars?
MrObsessive replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Every time I see the front end of one of these, it instantly reminds me of my Dad's car. Albeit his was a '57, both years were 'bout identical save for the '58's quad headlights and lower grille. No mistaking that for anything but a Plymouth! Mopar can also be commended for having their entire '57 line look the way they did. It can be safe to say that had they not done that, GM's '59 line could have appeared very different than they did. Same goes for Ford as they scrambled to intro their all new '60 line, after a one year deal with their '59's. -
1963 Pontiac Bonneville, New, Outdoor Shots.
MrObsessive replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Cars
Absolutely gorgeous as usual Steve! And now you've got me looking at a derelict '64 Bonneville that I've had lying around for years, but never did anything with it. Good luck on the move! I have to admit that's one of my top pet peeves----------having to relocate anywhere! Not one of my most favorite things in life for many reasons. -
Lipstick on a pig! Mercury LN7 Out of Box review
MrObsessive replied to Faust's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wanted an EXP back in '83 when these were new. Because I was a new car buyer (first time getting a car loan), I needed a co-signer, and couldn't get anyone to step up to the plate. It's just as well though as a few years later, I do remember hearing stories about timing belts breaking and the dreaded "valve hitting the piston" woes that come with interference engines. I can't remember the last time I've seen a LN7 on the road, and now my curiosity is up about a kit. Yeah, I had the misfortune of having this happen with a Fiat Spyder I once owned. This was back in the early '90's and IIRC, was the first car I ever had that came with a timing belt as opposed to a chain. Sure enough, I went to start it one very cold morning (about 5°) and it started and ran for a bit, then all of a sudden it cut off. I tried to start it again, and the engine made a weird sound as if the starter was out-----or so I thought. The garage came and towed it and a few hours later I got the bad news..................busted timing belt! As you said, it wasn't just the valves that were bent due to the interference engine, the head was also trashed as it too was warped. It would have cost more to fix/replace the engine than the car was worth so the car went for parts and I went and bought a car that was a LOT tougher and durable..........................a Mercedes 240D sedan four speed! -
A bit sparse in new kit intros this month, but something interesting just the same. Take a look............

The Javelin & Other AMC Muscle Cars
MrObsessive replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, I thought those things went by way of the Dodo bird in the '50's! BTW, my car had NO power options! No power steering or brakes, drums on all fours, and a somewhat spartan interior. I wish I could have kept it, but back in '92, I was due to be stationed down in Ft. Jackson S.C. and couldn't take the car with me. I never saw it again after I sold it to a guy in upstate PA. Heaven knows if the car still exists.......I've been wanting to track it down someday as I still know the VIN number on it, also the number of the dash plaque that all of them had. It would be hard though since the car was made before '81. -

I've never seen a '69 in that shade! I had a neighbor many years ago with a '70 that was a matte black like that. Very unique car! -
The Javelin & Other AMC Muscle Cars
MrObsessive replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Each time that any new AMC kit wish list is mentioned here on the board, the 1968-70 Javelin/AMX's are at the top of the heap. A lot of us are hoping that in time Moebius will see fit to kit at least the '68-'70 Javelins. The AMX's even though done by Jo-Han, are easier to find especially the '69, although they can be a bit expensive for a pristine kit. The '70's another story as they are VERY hard to get and when they do show up, GET OUT YOUR WALLET! I can relate to the sheer potency of those AMC's..........I once owned a '69 AMX 390 with a four speed and a 3:54 axle. This was an original ZERO options car, and believe it or not, came with VACUUM WIPERS of all things! Mine wasn't a Group 19 car, but I've wondered from time to time in the years since I let it go, if in fact it may have been at one time. It could whip the pants off many a muscle car that was still roaming the roads back in the late '80's and even run wheel to wheel with big block Corvettes that I'd come across every once and a while. Yeah, they're still greatly underrated, and very nice and clean 1:1 AMX's can be had for less the $20K still. EDIT: I wanted to add that what you mentioned about the SC Rambler is dead on right! We had a guy in our local AMC club here years ago that had a '69 SC. I tell you what------that thing was a super terror on the road and strip, and could even outrun the fastest of AMX's! They were a bit lighter in comparison and coupled with that 390, were a real handful on the road! They could surprise (and humiliate) many an unsuspecting driver who thought he had a "fast" car! -
As Mike said above, it's very difficult to read all of this without tears in my eyes. I too am hoping Harry will pull through all of this, and I can relate to Hospice and all that they do. My Dad who will be gone four years September 1st, went through Hospice and he had told us years earlier (my sister, Stepmom and I) that he wanted no heroic efforts to keep him around. I understood that although it was my sister that had a difficult time with him wanting to still smoke up to nearly a week before he passed. I made no issue of it as there was no point in getting upset any longer. Miracles do happen-------I just hope there's at least one more for Harry.

Moebius - Now that the Comet is out, What's Next
MrObsessive replied to Swifster's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Same here, but if they do one, PLEASE don't do the '73 and later cars with those ugly battering ram bumpers! That to me just killed the style of the car among other things! -
Moebius - Now that the Comet is out, What's Next
MrObsessive replied to Swifster's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
ANY Hawk from '56-'64 would be welcome, but I would be ALL OVER a 1957-58 Golden Hawk! Since they pretty much shared major parts with each other, it would be just a matter of changing rear fenders and rooflines for different years. Some interior bits would be a bit different too, but nothing super major. Psssst. Moebius.............I hope you're listening! -
Only 18 Percent Of Americans Can Drive Manual. :(
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
You got that right! It's one of the reasons I don't miss a manual in my Challenger. I thought I'd never say that, but as the knees hurt more than they use to, and the 60 mark gets ever closer I don't knock automatics at all. Sure, a manual is nice on those days when you want to go cruising a twisty country road (PA is full of 'em), but for everyday driving back and forth to work------at this point in my life an automatic is more practical, and much more knee friendly.
