  1. A while back, I got the LA's Totally Awesome (Degreaser) to strip the chrome off a resin '57 Chrysler bumper which was badly plated. Took it right off, but I had to let it sit for at least a day. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try. If all else fails, you could try the other type and use what you bought for other things.
  2. Welcome Hans! Your English is MUCH better than I've read of those that have lived here their entire lives!
  3. Years ago, I used MCW paints in a spray can and it came out OK. Generally, I don't like spray cans as I can't control how much paint is going to come out at any given time, nor control how much propellant is in said can. It's one of the reasons I'm reluctant to use even Tamiya sprays for bodies. Of the couple times I used them, there was waaaay too much propellant in the can, which showed up as tiny bubbles on the paint surface. I'd much rather decant the sprays, let them "gas out" and airbrush them on. Another minus IMO about Tamiya's is while they can spray nicely and can put down a decent finish, I'm one that likes to rub out and polish out a paint job when fully dried. I noticed that their paints are a bit too "soft" and wear away much too quickly for my tastes which for me is yet another strike. As far as airbrushing paints, it's just MUCH better control for me with no surprises.
  4. I'm getting 2 3/4", or 70mm from side to side. Hope this helps!
  5. Got my kit folks! If you get this, you will NOT be disappointed! VERY well done body among other things, but man oh man............are those A pillars THIN!
  6. Wow! VERY nice take on this! ? I agree............that alone makes a HUGE difference!
  7. Ooooh! Very nice! Yes, I built a '55 but I don't remember publishing an article on it. I built it loooong before I had a PC and internet. Mine is here if anyone wants to take a look.
  8. Dynatron Putty Cote. It's a two part putty and I've been using it for years. It's got a bit of plastic in the mixture, so if you've got some trim or whatever to go over it, it'll bond to the putty with some liquid glue.
  9. Now that is SUPER EXCELLENT! ? I did the same thing over 20 years ago as I copied a car I saw in a then current issue of Road and Track. I got tired of waiting for a kit which could have been based on that ROG Jag XKSS. Your headrest/fin looks a bit better than mine, but then no two cars were the same back when Jag was making these. Either one of these IMO would be excellent sellers! The D-Type has been forever ignored, except for the high end kit makers and those can suck the life out of your wallet real fast.
  10. I never had a fear of the Dentist.......more of a RELIEF after I went to see one six years ago. Years before that, the Dentist had told me that I eventually would need to have my teeth pulled due to advancing gum disease. I kept putting it off as I tried to stave off the inevitable. Not because of fear, but what the cost of teeth pulling and dentures would ultimately be. Well, things came to a head in early '15 when I had yet another tooth come out and I was fortunate to find out that there was a "free dental clinic" that was going to be operating for one day only in our local Farm Show Arena (Harrisburg, PA). It was to be at the end of May and I made sure that I got there as early as possible so I could get this over with and I found out that my dental insurance at work would cover at least half the cost of the dentures. I had to sign a waiver that they could NOT put me under per the regulations of the clinic....each tooth would have to be pulled locally one by one with a local anesthetic. So.........I waited for a few hours to be seen (the place was PACKED) and a nice young lady Dentist and her assistant pulled the remaining 16 teeth I had left and the whole time it took something like an hour and a half. Needless to say, my mouth was bleeding for at least six hours, but finally towards the evening it stopped, and I was able to eat something. Literally pudding, yogurt and ice cream for a few days. About a week or so later, I went to another Dentist to get fitted for dentures as I had to wait a bit till the swelling went down and all I can say is that was one of the best medical moves I've done in a long time. No more loose teeth, nor more futzing with partials and whatnot. I paid half the cost of the new dentures, the job paid the rest and I haven't looked back. Now it's the cost of the next set of dentures I have to worry about down the road, but anything beats having to deal with constant teeth pulling/loss and dealing with that.
  11. Ok...............I could NOT resist! I ordered one off the 'Bay from a Japanese seller with very good feedback. I may jump in and build this one not long after I get it as an "easy builder". Genuine Tamiya kits I never had any issues building them as they pretty much fall together. I say "genuine" as I did build their BMW 850i kit which was actually a reboxed Revell, and that was IMO a NIGHTMARE.
  12. This is the first I've seen of this kit! A while back I bought the 1/12 version of this car for a very good price off the 'Bay. The wheels/tires always seemed a bit too inboard to me, but that's how Datsun made those cars back then. Now my curiosity is up and off I go to see if I can get this one from Tamiya!
  13. Very nice and clean! Yes, this is one of the trickiest kits that was put out back in those days and it still can be a challenge to get together. I've wondered if the tooling for this is long gone as there was talk of a Turbine Car reissue, but that was the promo-like car and not the full detailed one. ?
  14. BEAUTIFUL JOB!! Yes, this is one kit that really needs to be on the shelves again! Unfortunately, I don't ever see that happening. Besides the one I built years ago, thank goodness I have another one also to build as a street car! These are reeeeeaal tough to find out there on the 'Bay and when they do show up, get set to cough up some big bucks for it.
  15. Just got an email from MegaHobby.com about the new ROG Shelby kit. This one looks awfully familiar and I was wondering if this is the old Sunny kit that's been reboxed. I have that kit and from what I see of its contents (from one on eBay), this looks for all the world like that old tooling. While not an exact replica of the FIA car, it's better designated as a 289 version as the box art showed, as we all know the 427 cars were MUCH beefier in the fenders and tires. Also, I thought any of the Cobras that came out in '62 were actually 260 cars and not the 289's, as that would have been a little later. I'm not totally versed in all things Cobra, but this one is interesting. Some tweaks here and there would be needed to make this one correct, but certainly the basic "bones" are there. Anyone know for sure about the kit's origins?
  16. Hey! I'll be following this thread for sure Doug! I see you have the file for a '57 Lincoln........I wanted The Modelhaus kit when they had it, but now's it's practically unobtainium, as well as a super high price if one ever turns up on the 'Bay. You've got my attention! ?
  17. Yep..........same with mine. That shouldn't be too hard to do.......line it up before getting the other details done. The last time I saw the Bronco might have been the Model King version with the Drag Cougar and trailer. That one can go for some SERIOUS coin and it's one of the reasons I'd like to see that one make its way back. It would knock down the auction prices I've seen them go for. ??
  18. Yes!! I have one of those too, but the top for the bed is slightly warped. This gets asked about whenever they do their videos and I'm surprised it's not made it back yet as a lone reissue. It sure would be nice to see it again as they can go for big bucks on the 'Bay and some of the kits I've seen are in not that great of shape.
  19. I have no inside info, but I have a feeling that one's going to make its way back revamped and ready to go. Time will tell!
  20. A 1967-'68 coupe version of the Mustang is woefully absent for the longest time! If they did a coupe, it would be a natural progression to also do a convertible without a lot of major surgery to the body. Not so much with the Fastback as they don't share the same quarters and taillight panels among other things. It's one of the reasons I started on my Green Hornet project years ago. That bodystyle just keeps getting ignored for whatever reason.
  21. Weren't the Opels out of the '50's/early '60's sold through Buick dealerships? I knew of a neighbor that had one of these. Always reminded me of a shrunken Chevy Nomad!
  22. I would loooooove to see THIS car! I saw a resin kit on eBay a while back. I tried to bid on it but it went for waaaaay too much $$$ IMO.
  23. They sure do! Check it out here. Norm Veber also makes one as I got mine from him. Quite sure it's a repop of the old annual straight six from back then.
  24. VERY nice and clean Helmut! ? Between this and the Monogram one, I always thought the Johan was better looking body shape wise. Just looks more accurate to my eyes.
  25. I never knew this kit was difficult to find now. Yeah.........the few that I've seen are going for some rather big bucks. ? I'm glad I got the couple that I did and also a junker body to boot. As I mentioned in an earlier comment, I still say that Revell got this one 'bout dead perfect. Roof and all. Maybe that's why they're so scarce? Us modelers know a good kit when we see it!
