FPP Models 1/24 Ferrari 250 GT Bertone
MrObsessive replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for showing us what's in this kit Gerry! I see this model turn up on my eBay feed every so often. I've bought wire wheels from Fernando a couple times and they are GREAT! Each time I see this kit I say to myself-----"Should I or shouldn't I"? As far as the inner fenders.............would something out of a junk Italeri or Esci kit work since they pretty much had the same "bones"? -
Hey! Nice Studie! I've got a Golden Hawk that's been screaming at me for years to restore. Someday the ambition will strike to get that one redone and put in a nice case.
-
I have the same kits Snake, so whoever's first? A couple of those are buried on my third floor and with other things going on.........you might get to the comparison before I do. Interesting observation about the side stripes on the AAR folks are noticing. Now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it now!

If you can find a parted out Revell Bronco somewhere (new issue) there's a very nice 9" in there. I used one I got off eBay for my (stalled for now) Shelby Green Hornet.

Ooooh! Great start Dominick and great minds think alike! The wheels I think I might have got from Norm Veber along with the tires which I wanted a spare for the rear compartment. I also got the wood steering wheel from him............memory's a little hazy as I built this nearly 20 years ago.

Continental Mark II Convertible
MrObsessive replied to Perspect Scale Modelworks's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very interesting project! Back in the mid '80's when I went back to school I was looking for another car. I came across a '71 MG and in the dealer's lot was a '56 Continental just like yours. It was a light powder blue and the guy was trying to sell it to me instead of the MG. I didn't really want it as it was nearly a 30 year old car then and there were some signs of cancer that I didn't want to deal with. In hindsight I had so much trouble with that MG that maybe I should have bought that Continental! -
Nice collection you picked up! I voted for the Eldorado as that's another one of my favorite cars of the '70's.......especially the convertible. I got a junker built up of this a while back at a show and it's one that will see the resto table somewhere along the line. You just don't see these anymore------real or model!

Tim, I'll echo what Chuck says and say THANK YOU! Since viewing those pics and those that I have on my own hard disc, I see some other things that are screaming out for attention to be corrected. Once again...............THANKS!!

OOOH! That is simply GORGEOUS!!

Bill, I see what you're saying about the body shape on this one. While it's a MUCH better effort this time around on Revell's part, there are some other changes I'd like to make that to my sight are glaring. Besides the wheel wells and quarter window shapes, yes.....the backlite itself could use some tweaking. In relation to the 1:1, it seems like it almost sits to 'high up' in the roofline and not level or maybe slightly lower than the side upper window line. Just an observation but it seems to me that the leading edge of the C pillar could stand to have a bit faster angle to it. Also on the DLO, that could stand to be a bit larger as to my eyes, the beltline appears a touch too high, or the upper window line too low. I can't decide if it's one or the other, or both-----I'm leaning towards the latter. If it wasn't for some other projects I'd like to get out of the way, I'd be on this one, but the bug to build this one has hasn't bitten hard enough..............yet. Others may not see what we see and by no means does that take away the absolutely very sharp builds I've seen. For my tastes though, I'd have to do some body tweaks as I'd have to live with it well...............forever!
-
Thanks! I'm glad I could help! Yeah, kit prices aren't getting any cheaper.......I'm a bit more choosy these days on what I'll spend money on. Not enough hours in a day to fix all the changes some of them need!
-
Tommy, the thread to that Road Runner is here. Thanks for asking!

FWIW, I'll add my 2¢. Until it was mentioned, I hadn't paid attention to the Dana rear end on the AAR 'Cuda when I saw the kit being built by Chris on YouTube. Having said that, I am one of those that like things to be as correct as I can and yes.........I do display my builds particularly at a show with a mirrored base (most of the time). As Bill mentioned and as I mentioned in another thread, I would have liked to have seen Revell fix the wheel wells as well as a couple other foibles but again, to me those are easy fixes and something that I won't get crazed over. And yes, I'm the one that went through the trouble of fixing that (to me) woefully misshapen rear end on the '68 Road Runner. That's one area that has bugged me ever since that kit debuted. One reason was the car is very fresh in my memory as they were once all over the roads when I was a teen and then I had the Johan kit which to me is dead on nuts accurate. The AMT kit to my eyes appeared to have been a car that was in an accident and not fixed properly. Soooo.......I went ahead and took the time to see if number one, could I fix it and number two, could it be done in a way that if someone else wanted to attempt it with a modicum of skills, they could do so. BTW, I see the same issue with Revell's '67 Dodge Coronet. I have a fix in mind for that, but have no idea when I'd ever get around to tackling it. I understand if some don't want to attempt this-----or don't really care, that's OK. But I'm just one of those that like something in scale to be as close to the 1:1 as possible....ESPECIALLY body shapes.

WOW! Makes me kinda wish I had redid my '68 in red! Absolutely great finish! Love the side pipes too!

1968 Chevy Corvette 427 L/88 Convertible resto Update! 2/2/19
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
As Snake mentioned earlier, this color does appear more orange than "bronze" at times. No doubt due to the lighting I'm using at the moment, although this color does remind me of the C6's "Sunset Orange" I did years ago................ -
1968 Chevy Corvette 427 L/88 Convertible resto Update! 2/2/19
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
OK as promised, here are a few pics with the paint all rubbed out. I had taken these earlier, but I'm just now carving out some time to get them up on Fotki and showing them here. I'm finally nearing the end of this rebuild and it's just a matter of getting some BMF on, the chrome rockers, inner fenders, firewall and other bits and pieces. I have the soft top and it'll be painted a beige color per one of the soft top colors offered in '68. After it's all said and done, I'll take some "beauty" shots and maybe I'll get a few outside pics to highlight the Corvette Bronze. -
That is nice looking box art Casey! Although Round 2 did the same thing in a way with their '68 Road Runner. Great box art, but IMO the body in the kit leaves much to be desired.

Yes, I agree! This time around to my eyes it's absolutely 100% better than the last monstrosities Revell foisted on us! While I would have liked to have seen Revell fix those wheel wells (and those quarter windows), this is not a deal breaker in the least. Now maybe we can get a '70 Hemi 'Cuda convertible----with an up top...........................please?

Hmmm..........without giving it away, I see certain cues on this one to a car I used to own. I might have this one if I can zero in on something.

Shirley Shahan’s Hurst/AMX Finished!
MrObsessive replied to dragmodels44's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
EXCELLENT!! -
One little known (and built) option of the '76-'77 cars was the 260 V8 with a 5 speed (International Series?) While not a world beater in the least, that was a very interesting option and I can bet survivors are worth something these days.
-
What's not to like? I think it looks great! I remember these VERY well as they were a staple of a LOT of driveways in the '80's. Of course, I'm partial to the '73-'77 Colonnade cars as those were what I learned to drive in (a '77 Cutlass). You built yours pretty much how I'd do this car............stock as stone!
-
That looks terrific in black! I always thought Superbirds could be had in black but I guess not. I distinctly remember seeing an In-Violet one running around town back in the '70's. Whether or not it was original I don't know, but it sure was a nice car.

Testor's spray cans years ago was what forced me to learn airbrushing! I haven't trusted their spray cans for many a year as I don't trust their consistency as far as how much propellant is in each can. Three different times in a row I got burned by using their cans and have swore never to use them again. And yes, the same thing applies to Tamiya's spray cans. I decanted their paints once and I swear the paint was bubbling for over an hour there was so much propellant. Just my experience as painting is not one of my favorite things and I absolutely hate do-overs.
-
I'm seeing a lot of metallic flakes in the gray. I take it you airbrushed this since you decanted the spray can? If so, it's very important that you keep swilling the jar every couple minutes to keep the metallic flakes suspended. Lack of doing that your siphon tube will pick up the metallic flakes first (since they're at the bottom) before picking up the purple toner. Just an observation as that's how it's looking on my end. As far as a fix.......like as was suggested, I would rub the paint down and try putting on a few more coats to see if it will even out. Barring that, I'd strip it and start over.
